それ故にか、西欧へのソ連による核攻撃に対して、核攻撃で対抗すべきという人々は1/3程度だった。
同様の調査は1984年にもあり(Pcala Star Banner 1984/09/15)、89%が「核戦争に勝者はいない」と回答している。
そして、冷戦が終結へ向かうと、核戦争の脅威は遠ざかったと思うようになる。
