I'm here at a ski resort in Nagano.
こちら長野県のスキー場です。
Because of unseasonably warm weather, snow levels are down and there aren't many skiers here.
今年は暖冬で雪が少なく、スキー客の姿はあまり見られません。
Usually in December there is a long line for the lifts but we haven't seen that this year.
例年12月になると、リフト待ちの長い列ができるんですが、今年はそういった列も見られません。
Let's talk to some people who work here.
スキー場で働く方のお話を伺ってみましょう。
How are things this year?
どうですか、今年は。

Well, usually at this time of year, we're busy but the lack of snow this year has left the slopes really empty.
えー、そうですね、毎年この時期には混み合っているんですが、今年は雪不足でゲレンデはガラガラなんですよ。
We're starting new services to attract younger customers, but we can't do much unless it snows.
こちらも若い人たちにもっと来てもらおうと新しいサービスを始めているんですが、降ってもらわないことにはどうしようもなくて。

雪なしではスキーも出来ませんからね。

以上、田中が長野からお伝えしました。

「〜のために」という意味です。
because of のかわりに due to を用いることもできます。
I was late for school because of / due to a traffic accident.
「交通事故のため学校に遅れました」のように使います。

「〜のための長い行列」という意味です。この line は「待ちの列」ということです。
郵便局や切符売り場などで「お並びですか」という場合、Are you in line? と言います。

「〜の調子はどう？」という訳になります。
How are things at work? と言えば「仕事のほうはどうですか？」となり、
How are things going? といえば「調子はどうですか？」となります。
Things が「いろいろ」という意味になり、広い意味での質問をしたい際に使える表現になります。

「…しなければ〜できない」という表現です。
You can't pass the test unless you study. だと「勉強しなければテストはパスできない。」という意味になります。

「せいぜい作れるものと言えば」といった感じです。All we can do だと「今私たちにできることと言えば」という意味です。

「雪不足 (the lack of snow) が ＜ゲレンデが本当に空っぽの状態（the slopes really empty）＞ にしたままでいる (has left）」
といった感覚ですね。
