エッセンスにはTierがあり、見た目の絢爛さで判別が可能。
ノーマルアイテムのレアリティをOrb of Alchemyのようにレアにアップグレードしつつエッセンス毎に決まったModを確実に１つ付与する。
低Tierのエッセンスは低レベルのアイテムにしか使えないので序盤からどんどん使ってしまってもよい。

同じEssenceを3つ売るとひとつ上のEssenceとベンダーレシピとして交換することができる。（最上位の4大エッセンス以外）
なお、Screaming以上のエッセンスはレア装備(黄)を対象にすることができる。動作感はChaos Orbに近い。

稀にエッセンスクリスタルから入手できる Remnant of Corruption をエッセンスクリスタルに使うと、Essenceに囚われたモンスターを corrupt できる。
その結果は以下からランダムに選ばれる：

• 囚われたモンスターが解放される。ハズレ （Atlas Passiveの取得で防ぐことができる）
• Essence が1個追加される
• 全ての Essence が一つ上のTierになる
• ランクが一つ上のものに変化する
  • Hysteria、Insanity、Horror、Deliriumが欲しい場合はMisery、Dread、Scorn、Envyに対して Remnant of Corruption を使用する必要がある

同じエッセンスでも、対象の装備部位によって付与されるmodは変わる。
たとえばEssence of Angerは武器に使うとFire Damageが付与されるが、首輪や指輪を除く防具に使うとFire Resistanceが付与される。
エッセンスのTierが高いほど付与される数値は高くなる。

又、Tierとは別にランクが設定されており、
ランクが高いものほど低Tierが存在せず、ベンダーレシピが活用し辛いため希少性が高くなっている。
