How’s it going?
If you’re watching this then that means you’ve made it to the year 2013!!!
Congratulations!!!!!!

I’m really excited today because it is the first of January 2013 and I love the new year because it gives me like this push of extra motivation and like they say in Japanese やる気.
I’ve so much (freaking??) やる気
I don’t even know what to do with it… like I just want to do everything and…
Maybe I will.
But there’s one more reason why I like the beginning of the year.

In Japan at the very beginning of the year they sell these things that are called 福袋…福袋 and they basically mean like Bags of Happiness.
Each 福袋 contains a bunch of that store’s goods at a greatly reduced cost.
Most of the time you can’t see what’s in the bag and it’s kind of like you don’t know what you’re going to get but it should be more than?? what you paid for.

So this one is VanityFace.

I checked the store. I kind of generally liked a lot of clothes inside the store so I figured that I couldn’t go wrong picking this.

This zipper is like shut so you cant’ open it.
You can’t check it.
One of the only rules about福袋 is that while you’re not allowed to check the contents inside you’re allowed to compare weight and kind of feel them and try to guess what kind of products are inside

Yeah!

じゃん!
??? get a black one then I got a black one
I’m actually genuinely like not even faking this excitement (???) I’m so excited.
This is cute like a little like cardigan and a nice general black sweater…a black hat.
Yeah!
What is this?
What is this?
あぁー・・・派手やんめっちゃくちゃ
Oh..Okay…

(2:00)
So that…that was fun.
But then…じゃーん!
Village Vanguard…Village Vanguard
This is actually the coolest store in all of Japan.
This bag could be anything, anything at all because they sell just such a wide variety of things.
Anyway let’s see what’s inside!

What is this?
It’s just like a cloth.
これはいらないよさすがに・・・
えー・・・
A Washable Lint Roller and an electric tooth brush.
So an elephant-shaped dish brush.
A silicone steamer.
Hand blaster.
(3:00)
My Village Vanguard lucky bag is full of things I will never use.
Oh I forgot…I forgot this, too.
This was here…
This is probably a very good time to mention that while 福袋 means like Happy Bag or Lucky Bag, in Japan there is such a thing as 不幸袋 which means a unfortunate bag or misfortune bag.
Bags containing nothing but completely unwanted items are called 不幸袋…不幸袋.

So basically to sum it all up how good the contents of bags are really depends on where you go.
For example the apple store also gives away 福袋 in Japan.
Last year the people who bought one found a MacBook Air inside.
So how about you?
If you live in Japan, did you buy any 福袋 this year.
What was inside?
So I have to go ???
I have to figure what I’m going to do with all this junk now maybe I’ll give it to my Mom.

(4:00)
Hey, Mom!
It’s from Japan…
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for watching!
I’ll make a new video soon.
(??) a bow on my head.
