"若い地球の創造論"ミニストリ"Answers in Genesisを主宰するKen Hamは、進化論と創造論の戦いを、神の言葉の権威をめぐるものだと描写する。

The battle is not one of young earth vs. old earth, or billions of years vs. six days, or creation vs. evolution−the real battle is the authority of the Word of God vs. man’s fallible opinions.

Why do Christians believe in the bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ? Because of the words of Scripture (“according to the Scriptures”).

And why should Christians believe in the six literal days of creation? Because of the words of Scripture (“In six days the Lord made ...”).

The real issue is one of authority−is God’s Word the authority, or is man’s word the authority? So, couldn’t God have used evolution to create? The answer is No. A belief in millions of years of evolution not only contradicts the clear teaching of Genesis and the rest of Scripture but also impugns the character of God. He told us in the book of Genesis that He created the whole universe and everything in it in six days by His word: “Then God said ... .” His Word is the evidence of how and when God created, and His Word is incredibly clear.

何故、キリスト教徒はイエスキリストの肉体の復活を信じるのか？それは聖書にそう書かれているからだ。

真の問題は権威の問題だ。神の言葉に権威があるのか、人間の言葉に権威があるのかだ。であるなら、神は創造のために進化と言う手段を使えなかったのか？答えはノーだ。数百万年の進化を信じることは、創世記やその他の聖書の記述の教えに反するのみならず、神に異を唱えることのなのだ。神は我々に創世記で、神が宇宙全体とすべてを6日間で創造したと語っている。「神は言われた...」神の言葉は、神が、いつ、どのように創造したかの証拠である。神の言葉は明白である。

したがって、聖書にある地球平板な記述を比喩扱いするわけにはいかない。聖書は地球平板と書いていないという他ない。

Did Bible Writers believe the earth was flat?
No―this false idea is not taught in Scripture!

In the Old Testament, Job 26:7 explains that the earth is suspended in space―the obvious comparison being with the spherical sun and moon. By 150 B.C., the Greek astronomer Eratosthenes had already measured the 25,000-mile circumference of the earth. The round shape of our planet was a conclusion easily drawn by watching ships disappear over the horizon and also by observing eclipse shadows, and we can assume that such information was well known to New Testament writers. Earth's spherical shape was, of course, also understood by Christopher Columbus. Some people may have thought the earth was flat, but certainly not the great explorers. Some Bible critics have claimed that Revelation 7:1 assumes a flat earth since the verse refers to angels standing at the "four corners" of the earth. Actually, the reference is to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. Similar terminology is often used today when we speak of the sun's rising and setting, even though the earth, not the sun, is doing the moving. Bible writers used the "language of appearance," just as people always have. Without it, the intended message would be awkward at best and probably not understood clearly. When the Bible touches on scientific subjects, it is entirely accurate.

この一節だけだと、Earthが宙空にあるようにも読めないこともない。しかし、少し長めにヨブ記を切り取ると：

この6節分を通してみると、普通に平板な世界しかイメージできない。なかなか、Donald B. DeYoungの見事なトリミングと言えるだろう。

Donald B. DeYoungは「聖書記者は人々が使う"見かけの表現"を使ったのだ」と言う。すなわち、地球平板説に従って聖書は書かれているが、それはわかりやすさの都合だという。これは自爆で、聖書を"字義通り読む"と正しくないと言っているようなもの。
