About Kongo Ikoma Quasi-National Park

Mt.Kongo is the highest peak in Kongo Ikoma Quasi-National Park.The western half of Mt.Kongo is located in Osaka pref., the eastern half is located in Nara pref.
About 1300 years ago, En'nogyoja(役行者) began Shugendo(修験道) here.He is said to be the originator of Japanese climbing.
About 650 years ago, Kusunoki Masashige(楠木正成), who was a warrior to serve the Emperor Godaigo(後醍醐天皇), fought against Kamakura shogunate army here.His victory was one of the reasons for the collapse of the Kamakura shogunate.Honor his feat, Mt.Kongo has been designated as a national historic site.
Mt.Kongo near big cities, has been popular as a place of recreation and relaxation in a lot of people.From the top, overlooking and the Rokko mountains and the Great Plains of Settsu, Kawachi, and Izumi.Weather permitting, Awaji Island seen across the Osaka Bay.
