Its present activity is unknown and besides, bandits have now set up their base in the Dark Valley.\n Several Duty scouts went there very recently, but so far there is no news from them.\n To get inside the lab, you will need two electronic keys; I will give you one, but the second one you will have to take from Borov, the bandit leader. \n\n So, you need to take the second key to the lab from Borov, then sneak inside the lab and get the documents.

A week ago it was decided to increase the intensity of radiation on the test subjects. No changes were detected in the first few days. After several days strange metamorphoses started to occur: hair loss, heightened aggressiveness. Several subjects were literally trampled by their peers.

一週間前、被験者により強い放射線を照射する事が決定した。最初の数日間は何も起こらなかったが、その後、脱毛や攻撃性の増大などの奇妙な変化が見られた。仲間に踏みつけられる被験者も居た。

Subjects' condition has stabilized. The amount of hair is now 10% of the original amount. Their claws and teeth have grown considerably. Bursts of activity exhibit seemingly random behavior and are not directed at their peers. Senior lab technician A.N. Burnov speculated that this may indicate an increase in the subjects' intellect. It was decided to test the new modulation of psi-emissions on the subjects.

被験者の様子は落ち着いたようだ。髪の毛は最初の 10% 程度にまで減ってしまった。爪や歯は大幅に肥大化している。活動の活発化は見たところ無秩序な行動として現れており、仲間に対する動作はない。研究所の老技術者 A.N.Burnov はこれを、被験者の思考力増加の兆候と見ている。また、被験者に作用させる psi-emission を調整する事が決定した。

Chief of Security: Yesterday security guard G.P. Glebov tossed a piece of meat to the subjects just for fun. They tore apart and devoured it in mere seconds. Subsequently several individuals tried to break out of the cells. Because of this, lab technicians were unable to obtain the necessary test samples. Although G.P. Glebov's actions were ill-considered, I propose that maintenance personnel be equipped with airguns for adequate protection in the event of emergencies.

警備主任： 昨日、警備員である G.P.Glebov が戯れに被験者達の中へ肉片を放り投げた。すると彼らはその肉片をひったくり、ほんの数秒で平らげてしまった。その後、数人が脱走を試みた。そのため、技術者達は必要なテストサンプルを得られなかった。G.P.Glebov の行動が軽率だったとは言え、不測の事態に備え、各人は空気銃を常備すべきだろう。

Chief of Security: Yesterday the experiment almost got out of control. Two dozen test subjects broke out and vandalised two laboratory rooms. Fortunately, the research personnel were able to lock themselves up upstairs. We were ordered to clear the main laboratory room. In the course of the operation, three guards suffered bites. Hopefully, they will be OK. I wish the experiment is soon over.

警備主任： 昨日、実験は完全な暴走状態に陥りかけた。24人の被験者が脱走し、2つの研究室を破壊したのだ。幸運にも研究者達は2階に立てこもる事ができたので、その間に我々は中央研究室の制圧に取り掛かった。作戦行動中に3名の警備員が噛まれた。無事であれば良いが。実験が早急に終わってくれる事を願う。

Yesterday we delivered a new modulation of psi-emissions to the test subjects. It appeared as though their brains simply got roasted. I can hardly imagine how this emission would affect humans. We have tested every type of emission and the results match those obtained in other laboratories. The experiment can now be considered complete. Presumably, in one week's time, we will be ready to conduct the experiment on larger creatures.

昨日、調整した psi-emission を被験者に照射したところ、単に彼らの頭脳を黒焦げにしただけのようだった。この装置が人体にどのような影響を及ぼすのか、私にはまるで予想が付かない。我々は全ての放射をテストし、他の研究所と同じ結果が得られた。この実験もこれで終了だ。更に大型の生物に対する同様の実験は、恐らく一週間もすれば始められるだろう。

I had a strange dream. The colossal Chernobyl power plant emerges in the twilight. Everything looks peaceful. A lonely man appears. I see him from behind against the background of the plant. The wind starts to blow. Suddenly hordes of rats begin to skitter away from the station in all directions. The man, with his back still turned to me, shoots at the rats. There is an abrupt scream: "Strelok!". The man shudders, freezes for a moment, then starts to turn slowly in my direction, but... just an instant before I am to get a glance at his face, I wake up. What does this dream mean? I don't know, but I think it's something I have seen before.

不思議な夢をみた。薄暮の中、巨大なチェルノブイリ発電所が姿を現した。なにもかもが平和そうに見え、ひとりの男が現れた。俺は発電所を背景にして、そいつを背中から見ていた。風が吹きはじめ、突然ネズミの大群が、すべての方角から滑るように走ってきた。男は背中を向けたまま、ネズミを撃ちはじめた。不意に「Strelok！」と叫び声が聞こえてきた。男は身震いし、しばらく固まったあと、ゆっくりと俺のほうへ向きを変えはじめた。だが…… あともう少しでそいつの顔を見られる、というところで目が覚めてしまった。あの夢はどういう意味だったんだ？ わからない。でも俺が思うに、あの光景は以前見たことがあるような気がする。

Hell... Lab X18 wasn't fun...and its current residents...I didn't think things like that existed. I found some documents...I didn't understand much of what was written in there except that they contained technical specifications for some components for Kaimanov emitters. What's interesting is that the parts were destined for another lab with the codename X16 and it's probably a secret one too.

地獄だ…… X18 研究所は不快だった…… そこの現在の居住者は…… あんなのが存在するとは思いも寄らなかった。俺は文書を見つけた…… 俺はそこに書かれている多くは理解できない物だったが、Kaimanov 放射機の構成部分に関する技術仕様書を含んでいるのは分かった。興味深い所は、コードネーム X16 という別の研究所で部品が定められている点で、その研究所も恐らく秘密の何かなんだろう。
