O caminho de volta y. Hi, I have experience pirating software, and I wanna give you some advice that you'll only get from someone familiar with the other side of the cutlass. There's this common bit of knowledge among the torrenting community that DRM makes the lives of the paying customers worse but not the pirates who don't pay for it, because by definition if u pirate it u dont have to deal with DRM (this is why i got into pirating, to play games I paid for that had DRM that made the game unplayable, you can thank uplay making every Assassin's Creed game only playable when pirated). The only good DRM does is to delay a game's torrent upload, not prevent it (the only thing that prevents your game being torrented is nobody caring about it), and once its shelf life is up it ceases to do you any good. Now, that affect is important (protects day 1 sales), but there's more to the dev-pirate relationship than that. You can pressure pirates into buying your game after they've pirated it with its design. how to effectively (in my experience) manufacture discontent among software pirates: #1 is online content, that's obvious I'm not gonna cover that. #2 is... drumroll please... modding. This can be split up into 3 key areas of manufactured discontent that build on eachother. A) An inflexible modding architecture that breaks when not used in conjunction with the storefront. The game will run (or be cracked to run) without being hooked into Steam, but the mods won't load unless they're from Steam or have the exact correct formatting from Steam. This is the sort of thing crackers remove, but only to make the game work, not for it to run mods. (Xcom 2 was really good at this, I literally only got it for Longwar 2 but could never get mods to work to work on my copy) B) Giving a game that pirates can't mod, glaring flaws that're fixed with mods. Again, manufactured discontent. (Dark Souls 1 comes to mind. Fromsoft didn't weaponize it against software pirates, but easily could have. Another example is Total War 3 Kingdoms having most of the game's content (factions to play as fully implemented but inaccessible unless you mod in the ability to play them. Paradox does this a lot, actually)) C) Frequent, small updates that make it so the version of the game you can get off the torrenting sites is incompatible with the current version of the mods. (Again, Paradox is really good at this) # 3 is gonna really surprise you, nobody ever considers it. If I told you that Wolcen deleted my savefile 10 hours into the game (true story) it'd come to you as no surprise that I stopped playing it. When I played Subnautica, I got 3 hours into the game until I hit the end of that patch's content, uninstalled it from my computer to save space, and then when a new content patch came out that brought me back to the game I re-installed it and then had to start a new game because pirates can't use cloud saving. And when this happened I was struck with something: the game still isn't done, I'll keep coming back to it every time it gets updated, every update is gonna take me longer & longer to exhaust, and unless I pay for it I'm gonna have to keep starting over from the beginning which the wolcen example already demonstrated is a big deal for players, and instead of playing my torrent I uninstalled it & bought the game. weaponized cloud saving Setting up your game so that uninstalling takes local save files with it (the "do you want to keep your save files? " uninstall dialogue is your enemy here, put the save files in the install directory & take them when uninstalled), gating new content behind a serious time commitment instead of before it (Frostpunk for example released new campaign after new campaign but doesn't let you play the new content until after you've played New Home, having a "Skip To New Content" button on the main menu is your enemy here) and then establishing a content output cycle similar to early access (Frostpunk again hyped a free content roaddmap) will pressure torrentors into purchasing the game just to get to keep their save files every time you bring them back to your game. PS, Denuvo is a scam. It always gets cracked eventually, and any pirate who will wait a week to torrent your game will wait a month to torrent your game will wait six months to torrent your game. No amount of money is worth making somebody who already waited 20 weeks to wait an extra 4, it's a 0% ROI proposition. It sounds good to a board of directors made up of canned corn magnates, but it's worse than worthless. Making pirates wait longer increases the amount of content that will come with the first crack. Software pirates (I know I do) celebrate some games taking a long time to crack because post-launch update cycles are the hardest on software pirates (See: The Wolcen example, that bug got patched between when I downloaded the torrent and when it happened and I didn't get to play the game to satisfaction bc I got to pirate it on day-1) and if you force them to wait until the game has been smoothed out & all the content has been added in then pirates get a superior release compared to paying customers, in addition to negating the natural conversion affects I outlined above. Or another example; Hitman 2019 had an episodic content format to push season passes. Had it launched without Denuvo, every time they launched an episode I'd have had to re-install the game and then re-play all of the episodes I'd already finished just to get to the new content, making every release into a potential conversion point for me to just buy the game so I can keep my saves, but because they had denuvo it took so long to crack that by the time I was able to play the game for the first time they had already released all the episodes & I got it all in one lump sum and was able to play it all at once, realize it was a bad game and uninstall it halfway thru without even needing to apply for a refund. If they hadn't stumped up for Denuvo I would have bought the game when they released the second episode and by the time they released the third episode & I realized it was a shit game I wouldn't have been elligible for a refund anymore. They paid Denuvo to lose my sale, and they paid out of the nose for it too. It would have been better for them to have no drm bc their game's structure inherently punished pirating in a way negated by denuvo. Denuvo is a scam.

I just download and delete the torrent without seeding. I know im a dick, but don't blame me. My dad didn't want to waste his money buying me games so he showed me torrenting, but he also didnt really know what seeding is so he avoided it too. So im older now, recently I got a bit deeper into how it works and I joined this community on reddit. I want to give back to the community by seeding. How do you guys seed? Do you guys leave your pc running all the time, even when you go to sleep at night or do you turn it off and continue seeding in the morning? Or you seed just when using your pc here and there? Im broke and im a cheap bastard so I dont want a seedbox. Is there a better way? And im not even sure how seedbox-es work tbh.
