When it comes to directing period films, there are only two names you can rely on in Bollywood. One is Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the other is Ashutosh Gowarikar. What a movie it turned out to be. Brilliant! Superb! Epic! A movie that has its own strengths and doesn't rely on star power. My greatest fear was Arjun Kapoor but he actually deserves a praise for portraying the character of Sadashiv Rao so well without trying it so hard. Infact, I found his character better than that of Ranveer Singh of Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat. On the contrary, the expectations from Sanjay Dutt were so high that perhaps his screen presence didn't look as terrifying as in Agneepath. Kriti Sanon has perfectly moulded herself in her character, much better than flamboyant Priyanka Chopra in Bajirao Mastani, and more Stoic Deepika Padukone in Padmavat. Although the supporting cast could have been better, one man Puranjit Dasgupta deserves a mention for his dreft performance as Najib-Ud-Daula. Though Ashutosh fails a bit in reaching a climax as cinematic as Bhansali's Padmavat but he manages to get it better than Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. The visuals are astonishing and create a sense of the era when the historic battle of Panipat took place. Although Ashutosh has focused quite a lot on aesthetics, but still Padmavat wins here by a margin. The background music is good, and the songs do support the narrative. Where 'Mard Maratha' and 'Mann main Shiva' gives you a sense of pride, Sapna hai sach hai' touches your heart. While the first half focus on building the plot, the second one is all about the actual incidence. The movie might have taken some cinematic liberties with respect to presenting one of the most important chapters in Indian History, but it does instill a sense of patriotism in the audience. That's a great feat for a movie and after Swades, Ashutosh Gowariker does it again, although in a different genre.

This has been evident from the case of vinchurkar and damaji Gaikwads actions in battle. They broke ranks and acted against their we're supposed to protect Gardi musketeers and they themselves broke ranks and attacked Afghan army. Due to this gardi we're not able to Target Afghan as maratha horsemen's were between them. Where as Afghan musketeers targeted maratha horsemen's and at the end Afghan were able to outflank and encircle maratha left. Which was major reason for downfall.
