It was six weeks back, I was chilling in the Discord, Biroy wants the buffer from the Hermitcraft clipboard, "Tell me 'bout the first five years in review? " And I say, "Hol'up, that's a big ask, neffew! " But I took the bait, I went in bold, Dropped 4 posts of history, racked up gold, Was about to fry up a nice Season 5 burger When JT shows up and drops a challenge on Murder. "I see you dropping knowledge, but let's hear you flow. Give me Season 5 in bars, make it rhyme, let's go. " So I'm doing this post in verse like Shakespeare, Freeze frame, record scratch, that's how we got here. This is the fifth installment of my History of Hermitcraft series. Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5 April 2017 through July 2018 (15 months) Minecraft Java versions 1. 12 through 1. 12. 2 (World of Color Update). Personnel and Meta As always we start with the returning stars, We had Cub and Doc, we had False and Scar, Mumbo, Tango, Cleo, Etho and Iskall, Biffa and Python (on brand new channels). Jevin and Impulse, Joe and TFC, VintageBeef and my man XB, Castles provided by Sir Welskniggity, And don't forget the one and only Rendiggity. Leading the crew, don't get him annoyed, Sipping tea and derping it's Xisumavoid. It was a skeleton crew, 3 decided to go, We said "peace out" to Monkeyfarm, Zueljin and Hypno. But in their place came some seasoned meat, Three new recruits on the Hermitcraft streets None were strangers to the SMP crew Every one a legend even though they were new. Bdubs rang up X from across the ocean, Said, "If you got time, I've got a notion, I've been flimming and flamming with my Mindcrack crew But they 'bout to throw down so can I hang with you? " Then in Hermit Discord, Iskall and Tango Said "We've got some old friends, let's give them a go. They're in the UK, Stressmonster and Zedaph We'd like to nominate on their behalf. " That's the full roster for the season 5 cast. They made big plans but it wasn't to last. These folks depend on their video clips And no one expected the Adpocalypse. After just five months Youtube turned traitor Hermits went, "Aight, Holmes, smell ya later! " They wandered 10 months in the wilderness. The rest of season 5 was sort of a mess. Now don't get me wrong, they did what they could, Some parts of the season were pretty damn good, But when everything they planned on got derailed The fans clapped back saying Hermits failed. Was it good? Was it bad? You be the judge. It's over and done, we don't carry a grudge. They lived it down with season six glory, So enough of me vibin', I'll get to the story. Story Arcs In A. D. 2017 war was beginning. It was Hermit vs. Hermit for the whole first inning. Factions were hot on the Minecraft scene So the Hermits split up into smaller teams. Zoom in on the four old friends of Guude, Sticking together, acting rude. Welcome to the Jungle, don't cross their borders, They called themselves the "New Hermit Order. " Pan right to a shroom biome over the sea, It's yer boi Iskall and the Rendiggity Building with concrete, calling it "plastic, " Chilling together on the island fantastic. They started catching lip from the NHO. It was clear the Mindcrack boys had to go. They dressed in masks, they planned a solution, They hijacked the airwaves as La Revolucion. Can't forget the ladies on the H-Craft scene, Keeping the server looking chronically green. Stress and False have design down to a science So they paired together in the Allium Alliance. Then there was the gang called the OHO. "Opposition" or "Original"? Nobody knows. Biffa and Wels hated NHO's system So like Team STAR they got together just to crush them. Tango, Zed and Impulse worked the chunks, Raking in donos from AJewishMonk. Mixer was their home for their livestream shows We called them Team ZIT, they were beam-dot-pros. Of course that leaves the only pair who lasted Against NHO threats and the Youtube bastards. Cub and Scar, the Hermit pranksters, Eating cake, acting gangsta. Nobody cared until they put on the masks. Two Hermits going 'bout their separate tasks Until one day in the mansion complex The heads possessed them. Accio Convex! The rest stayed alone in their separate zones Trying to stay out of the faction woes. Building their bases, doing the work, Ripping out mycelium, placing dirt. Five whole months at DEFCON 1, Bdubs and the boys versus everyone. Fans trading comments 'bout who they backed... Until bam! the Youtube Nation attacked! Demonetized Bdubs said "This sucks. " He went to hang on Twitch with his friend Beau Truck. Without the big boss, the war was aborted And it took them a while to get things sorted. But there was more to S5 than the faction mess, For example, the Aerial Sheep Service! Tango and Zedaph dressed up like dweebs, Flying sheep around through the air on leads. Speaking of clothes, we had the alter ego, The mystery man, the masked Hermit Hero. Name unknown, not human nor birdman, The savior of the server, call him Worm Man. A servant of good with a bangin' squirm, He made Evil Xisuma do the heel-face turn. Protecting the Hermits, catching the perps, Talking like Feds, acting like derps. Jump cut to Iskall, a man with a mission. "No Hermit left behind" was his only vision. How to solve the problem of a lonely Mumbo? Last name: Cactonai. First name: Bumbo. Black blocks filling Iskall's shulker stash, Everywhere we turned another build with a mustache. The spoon took note and became aware, He took the Swede up on a series of dares. Build against build, diorite flowing, Benders created, viewers were voting, Always competing, things escalated quickly The prizes were diamonds and they piled up thickly. The final dare came, a streamed End raid. To the winner everything must be paid. But Mumbo found himself running low on cash, The only thing left to bid was his 'stache. The stakes were high, the gains were higher, They flew through the End Cities spire to spire, Mumbo did his best, he wasn't just careless But Iskall won, and Mumbo wound up hairless. But all these side plots hid the reality, Bdubs leaving was a near fatality. They had cashed in their chips on the NHO Battle So when it ended early they all were pretty rattled. The players were living in near isolation On mushroom islands safe from mob invasion. Hermits beating away the circling scavengers But what is this? Here comes a new challenger! Out of the silence rose the Convex Flying like imps out of Cubfan's vortex They fought the inertia but with little thanks From Hermits whose bases got nailed with pranks. The pair started early with a minor plan, Trap AFK Xisuma with a creeper, aw man! X came back to find the "gift" from the thugs, His name was Mr. Boom and he wanted a hug. But the 'Vex had already moved on to Beef, Who'd built up some gates to keep out the thieves. The terrible twins left their dino mark By turning the zone into Jurassic Park. They spared no expense! They built every species! (We're grateful they chose not to also build the feces. ) Beef had to spend the rest of his life Living in a dino paradise. Tango got a statue with a little something extra, The head was a man, but the body was Elsa. Done up in drag like Rupaul's dream, Stressmonster's gorgeous, but the second Ice Queen. No one could stop the Convex's tyranny They headed to the Pirate Island owned by Falsesymmetry. Her hard work and toil to remove the mycelium Was thwarted by a duo known for inhaling helium. Her base was invaded by a massive black ship fleet. Everything on fire even homes made of concrete. The Vex ran into big trouble on their way back. In the flames of the nether they lost Captain Jack. The parrot went astray from his perch on Cub's arm, (Some say it was random, some say it was karma... ) So False clapped back with a familiar face, A giant prank parrot in the midst of Cub's base. But she had a change of heart and she said, "Ok boomers, Let's put our heads together and take on Xisuma. " They pranked together, they showed the love, They turned Xisuma's base into the 5k Club. Faster and faster, the Vex were so lit, And now it was Welsknight's turn for a visit! To the cathedral the Vex made a pilgrimage With their minds set on a little light sacrilege. They turned the great church from the face of God, To mischief with Wololo bearing the rod. They told all the Hermits "Bribe us or beware, Only those who please the Vex will be spared. " Turning and turning in the widening gloom, The Convex flew on to Iskall's lair of doom. His island was home, and he was its master, But he came back to something of an eco-disaster. An Iskallium leak! It was radioactive! His ocean was flooded, the damage was massive. Since the Swede hadn't paid off the pair on the take, They sat by and watched while nomming on cake. Across the island stood Rendog's City, After the Convex, Hello Ren Kitty! A litter box, a scratching post, all quite tragic, And through it all running that blue Vex magic. So the server evolved from Hermit to Vexcraft. (They even nailed TFC, but he just laughed. ) There's no doubt that they would have continued their treason, But their time ran out at the end of the season. Build and Bases In Season 5 the Hermits were forever alone, But the trade-off was some glorious and massive homes. Many of the issues mentioned - unusual score choice, cold/stoic performances/characters, no middle climax structure, a bit slow moving, are all which I too noticed during my viewing but found them only minimally distracting to the point where I felt Little Joe ultimately interesting and worth watching. The two issues that I found majorly distracting and bothersome was the overuse of the high-pitched sound element and the lead characters passiveness in the face of everything going on around her. Was she just really that naive, or was it a flaw in her character? I've never seen the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers but will definitely be checking it out after reading all the viewers comments. Until then though, I'm feeling fine with Little Joe.

Mostly looking at the cards as they might slot into the current cardpool and decks. I'm not planning to speculate much about other cards in the decks. Announcement article: FFG Stream: All the cards from the stream: GUARDIAN Investigator: Nathaniel Cho I'm somewhat divided on Nathaniel. On the one hand, I think only having access to Guardian cards makes him very bored when there are no enemies around. I usually play with 2 investigators it is not uncommon for the Guardian to just stand around waiting for something to kill. On the other hand, this is a very cool design for a Guardian and very different from what we're used to. This guy isn't playing his Lightning Gun and Extra Ammo, he's got boxing gloves! His ability is pretty strong: every round you get a free Vicious Blow. His statline is very focused around his Combat of 5 (every investigator except Stella has a 5 in their main stat) and that 2 Intellect means you probably leave clues to someone else. His Elder Sign is great, though only doing something extra on Fight actions is going to lead to some feel-bads. We don't know his signatures yet, though from the names it seems likely he has an Enemy weakness. Player Cards: So, I heard you like fighting... We know the following cards from his deck: Boxing Gloves (5), Clean Them Out (11), Counterpunch (12), One-Two Punch (17), "Get Over Here! " (23), Lesson Learned (24). Boxing Gloves: A weapon without an action to Fight with. The fact that this takes up two hand slots means that you aren't bringing any weapons (unless you strap on that Bandolier), so it's a perfect fit for Nathaniel and challenging for anyone else to justify. It is worth noting that the reaction doesn't care about the class of the spirit card, so Calvin fans may want to try this with Versatile. Clean them Out: Okay, I want you to take Emergency Cache and replace the text with " Resource. When this action begins, gain 2 resources. " That is effectively what this card is, except replacing the Resource action with a Fight. The biggest drawback of this card is that it can't be played without an enemy. It only does 1 damage outside Nathaniel, but I don't think that's a problem. The more I play, the more I appreciate small bursts of damage with an added effect. Using this to soften up a 3-health enemy in Tony, then using his Long Colts to claim the bounty seems great. Counterpunch: This seems like a Nathaniel card. I could see it in some kind of Tommy deck with a lot of soaks. If you want to use things like Survival Knife, this could start becoming more appealing, but without bonus damage or combat boost, this just feels hard to justify the slot. One-Two Punch: Another Nathaniel card, I fear the chaos bag too much to try this in anyone else. You need to hit the first blow for that +2 combat, +1 damage attack, so save up an Overpower. In Nathaniel, this does dispatch a 4-health enemy in one action, which is no joke at level 0. "Get Over Here! ": If you look closely, you can Zoey ready to stab in the back of the art. Jokes aside, this card seems sweet. "Any fast player window" gives you a ton of options, "up to 2 locations away" lets you save your Seeker without even taking an action. Just make sure to do your best Scorpion impression when you play this. Lesson Learned: Hey, it is a blue card with the word "clues" on it! Good in Tommy or Mark if you are willing to get punched occasionally. Between the 1-resource cost and Fast, I can't say anything bad about it. Just pack some healing and get punched in the face. Oh, and like many of the cards in this pack it's Spirit traited, so Calvin can take this. Final thoughts: Nathaniel looks to bring a very different playstyle from the existing lineup of Guardians, which I think is exciting. While few of his cards will go in every Guardian, he does offer a lot of choices for any investigator looking to add some flair to their punches. And I would be remiss if I didn't say that Calvin also likes this pack: SEEKER Investigator: Harvey Walters Harvey is a Seeker through and through: card-draw and lots of intellect. His ability only works when you draw during the investigator phase, but that's hardly a problem when he just draws more and more cards. His signature, Vault of Knowledge, increases your hand size and lets you draw cards when you successfully investigate. I don't think there's too much else to say here. Being a mono-Seeker is less problematic than mono-Guardian, but it's still somewhat restrictive. His statline doesn't let him deal with enemies, so tell your friends to pack some taunts, but otherwise, he's a beast. His signature weakness is currently unknown. Player cards: Yo dog, I heard you like tomes... We know the following cards from his deck: Arcane Enlightenment (5), Celaeno Fragments (6), Cryptic Writings (24), Mind Over Matter (26), The Necronomicon (33) Arcane Enlightenment: If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of this going into every Daisy deck. As an inverse of Sign Magick, this is cheaper but not fast and lets you hold more books and cards in hand. The +1 hand size isn't an incredible buff, but it probably comes up more often than you'd think. Outside the librarian, there are plenty of Seekers that may want to play some Tomes and have a spare arcane slot. Celaeno Fragments: Somewhere between Magnifying Glass and Hawk-Eye Folding Camera in both cost and ability. It does nothing with an empty hand, so beware Amnesia. If you are only looking for the +1 intellect, Magnifying Glass is significantly easier. This does have incidental benefits from being a Tome, but even then I want my deck to hold 10 cards routinely before I'm playing this. Studious can help you use this turn 1. Fifteen cards is half your deck. Madness. Cryptic Writings: It's a neat little economy card that encourages you to draw during your turn. I think Mandy would gladly search for this. It's not bad as an actionless Emergency Cache or a 0-cost gain 4, but only great if you get both. Mind Over Matter: A significant upgrade over the level 0 version, this card stands out as a great tool for Joe Diamond, fighting at an 8. In most other Seekers, the lack of weapons means this is mostly useful for panic-evades, but since it's cheap, Fast and draws a card, you could do worse. The Necronomicon: I'm having some difficulty seeing this card justify itself in a fair context. None of the abilities seem to be 5XP good. Gaining six +2 stat boosts is certainly not bad, but it's not broken. Drawing six cards is probably the best option on the card. Discovering clues remotely can be done much cheaper with the Pendant of the Queen. Spending 4 secrets for 3 damage seems like a bad trade. However, Minh can use this with Scavenging and Act of Desperation to repeatedly use it, drawing 6 cards every time she does. Final Thoughts: I think drawing a lot of cards is sweet, but a few of these cards want you to have 10, 15 cards in hand without playing any. That seems tricky. Still, having half your deck in your hand means you can be ready for anything. Harvey helps his team draw their key pieces. Nothing to complain about. Get those Dream-Enhancing Serums ready. ROGUE Investigator: Winifred Habbamock So, I had envisioned this kind of ability might go on Trish Scarborough. Winifred looks super fun. Her statline is astounding and her ability lets her draw very aggressively. Her Elder Sign is going to lead to some bonkers moments. Since Winifred is the only investigator we know both signature cards for, we can currently play her (albeit with proxies). Anything You Can Do, Better boasts a staggering six wild icons. It is a Rogue card, so you can find it with Daredevil. Meanwhile, Arrogance gives you a -1 to each skill test until you fail a test. It reminds me of Dreams of The Deep, though I think this is less punishing. With that 1 Willpower, you are bound to fail a few tests. Player cards: How high can you go? We know the cards from her deck: Mauser C96 (6), Nimble (17), Manual Dexterity (25), Copycat (30), Baretta M1918 (31). Mauser C96: This gun seems great. At 4 cost for 5 ammo, this competes favorably with the. 45 automatic in any situation you don't need to shoot more than once. You can occasionally get a free resource out of the exchange, though when fighting bigger monsters you'll need to overcommit to ensure you can keep firing. Nimble: This is what Elusive looks like in a post-taboo world... and it's looking good. It won't be as ubiquitous as Elusive, but this card lets high-agility investigators zip across the map no problem. I would be surprised to see Finn players skipping this one. Manual Dexterity: Upgrading a Core Set skill card. Some people are hoping for a cycle, I think it's fine either way. For 2 XP, you get an additional agility icon and the chance to draw more cards. I think it's going to be in most Winifred decks to keep the skills coming. Outside her, I could see Finn grabbing this for sure, with the other rogues taking it if they are going heavy "succeed-by-2". Copycat: Hard to say what this will be used for. On a Lockpicks test, you can grab the Seeker's Deduction. There's also Survival Instinct for those mass evades. In Winifred, this lets you draw a card with her ability by itself, but since it is heavily dependent on your team composition I'd struggle to call it an auto-include anywhere. Baretta M1918: Like the Mauser C96, this boomstick exhausts to use. Unlike the pistol, it packs a massive combat boost. Felling enemies with 3 or 4 health is no problem with this gun and even bosses shall learn to fear it (with enough committed skills). The only thing keeping me from putting it in every Tony deck is that it takes up two hands. Final thoughts: Rogues seem to be getting an awesome package with several guns and a lot of skills. His statline doesn't let him deal with enemies, so tell your friends to pack some taunts, but otherwise, he's a beast. His signature weakness is currently unknown. We know the following cards from his deck: Arcane Enlightenment (5), Celaeno Fragments (6), Cryptic Writings (24), Mind Over Matter (26), The Necronomicon (33) Arcane Enlightenment: If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of this going into every Daisy deck. As an inverse of Sign Magick, this is cheaper but not fast and lets you hold more books and cards in hand. The +1 hand size isn't an incredible buff, but it probably comes up more often than you'd think. Outside the librarian, there are plenty of Seekers that may want to play some Tomes and have a spare arcane slot. Celaeno Fragments: Somewhere between Magnifying Glass and Hawk-Eye Folding Camera in both cost and ability. It does nothing with an empty hand, so beware Amnesia. If you are only looking for the +1 intellect, Magnifying Glass is significantly easier. This does have incidental benefits from being a Tome, but even then I want my deck to hold 10 cards routinely before I'm playing this. Studious can help you use this turn 1. Fifteen cards is half your deck. Madness. Cryptic Writings: It's a neat little economy card that encourages you to draw during your turn. I think Mandy would gladly search for this. It's not bad as an actionless Emergency Cache or a 0-cost gain 4, but only great if you get both. Mind Over Matter: A significant upgrade over the level 0 version, this card stands out as a great tool for Joe Diamond, fighting at an 8. In most other Seekers, the lack of weapons means this is mostly useful for panic-evades, but since it's cheap, Fast and draws a card, you could do worse. The Necronomicon: I'm having some difficulty seeing this card justify itself in a fair context. None of the abilities seem to be 5XP good. Gaining six +2 stat boosts is certainly not bad, but it's not broken. Drawing six cards is probably the best option on the card. Discovering clues remotely can be done much cheaper with the Pendant of the Queen. Spending 4 secrets for 3 damage seems like a bad trade. However, Minh can use this with Scavenging and Act of Desperation to repeatedly use it, drawing 6 cards every time she does. Final Thoughts: I think drawing a lot of cards is sweet, but a few of these cards want you to have 10, 15 cards in hand without playing any. That seems tricky. Still, having half your deck in your hand means you can be ready for anything. Harvey helps his team draw their key pieces. Nothing to complain about. Get those Dream-Enhancing Serums ready. ROGUE Investigator: Winifred Habbamock So, I had envisioned this kind of ability might go on Trish Scarborough. Winifred looks super fun. Her statline is astounding and her ability lets her draw very aggressively. Her Elder Sign is going to lead to some bonkers moments. Since Winifred is the only investigator we know both signature cards for, we can currently play her (albeit with proxies). Anything You Can Do, Better boasts a staggering six wild icons. It is a Rogue card, so you can find it with Daredevil. Meanwhile, Arrogance gives you a -1 to each skill test until you fail a test. It reminds me of Dreams of The Deep, though I think this is less punishing. With that 1 Willpower, you are bound to fail a few tests. Player cards: How high can you go? We know the cards from her deck: Mauser C96 (6), Nimble (17), Manual Dexterity (25), Copycat (30), Baretta M1918 (31). Mauser C96: This gun seems great. At 4 cost for 5 ammo, this competes favorably with the. 45 automatic in any situation you don't need to shoot more than once. You can occasionally get a free resource out of the exchange, though when fighting bigger monsters you'll need to overcommit to ensure you can keep firing. Nimble: This is what Elusive looks like in a post-taboo world... and it's looking good. It won't be as ubiquitous as Elusive, but this card lets high-agility investigators zip across the map no problem. I would be surprised to see Finn players skipping this one. Manual Dexterity: Upgrading a Core Set skill card. Some people are hoping for a cycle, I think it's fine either way. For 2 XP, you get an additional agility icon and the chance to draw more cards. I think it's going to be in most Winifred decks to keep the skills coming. Outside her, I could see Finn grabbing this for sure, with the other rogues taking it if they are going heavy "succeed-by-2". Copycat: Hard to say what this will be used for. On a Lockpicks test, you can grab the Seeker's Deduction. There's also Survival Instinct for those mass evades. In Winifred, this lets you draw a card with her ability by itself, but since it is heavily dependent on your team composition I'd struggle to call it an auto-include anywhere. Baretta M1918: Like the Mauser C96, this boomstick exhausts to use. Unlike the pistol, it packs a massive combat boost. Felling enemies with 3 or 4 health is no problem with this gun and even bosses shall learn to fear it (with enough committed skills). The only thing keeping me from putting it in every Tony deck is that it takes up two hands. Final thoughts: Rogues seem to be getting an awesome package with several guns and a lot of skills.
