関係副詞は場所・時などを詳しく説明するために使われます。
種類は下の表のようになります。
場所時the reason無し

＊一般的につかれるのはwhere/whenでwhy/howは余裕があれば覚えておけばいい。
(1)場所
場所を説明する場合にはwhereが使われます。
ただ「場所の名前」を使われているという理由でwhereを使ってはいけません。
場所の名前は「物」と同じ扱いになります。
ではどういう場合にwhereが使われるかと言うと、
「前置詞+名詞」で場所を表すものになった時です。
例えばthe desk「机」は物ですが、
on the desk「机の上に」と前置詞がつくと場所を表します。
前置詞がない場合には物なのでwhichが使われます。
例：Do you know the country where Christopher was born?(Christopher was born in the country.)
　　Do you know the country which Christopher visited?(Christopher visited the country.)
(2)時
時を説明する場合にはwhenが使われます。
この場合も「前置詞+名詞」で時を表すと言うのが通例です。
例：Tuesday is the day when the garbage truck comes.(The garbage truck comes on Tuesdays.)
(3)the(a) reason(理由)
the(a) reasonにはwhyが使われます。
「その理由→なぜならば」と言う感覚でつなげます。
＊for the reason(前置詞＋名詞)がもともとの形である。
例：Tell me the reason why you look so happy today.(You look happy for good score today.)
(4)how
howは先行詞がない関係詞です。
「〜するやり方」という意味で使われます。
例:That's how he succeeded in business.
