No respect for the Falling man. How is it that the major league arse-hole, obscenely wealthy, scientifically devoid Al Gore has built his nauseatingly opulent manor at the water's edge when he predicted sea-level rises and no ice at the poles within 7 years? That was nearly 20 years ago. If he had a brain, I'd be tempted to say that Gore knows something that doesn't fit in with his Global Warming lies. 0:45 looking up in horror. Windows on the World, despite the fact that it takes place in the weeks following the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York, is a film that is urgently for our time. It is a hero's journey of a son trying to find his father in that grief-stricken landscape and the characters stand in for the millions of immigrants, legal and illegal, who contribute in their everyday lives, to the American landscape. The film seeks to counter the narrative that's all-too-prevalent in today's political and media landscape by telling a story set in America's biggest and most diverse city, at its darkest time. The script by playwright and novelist Robert Mailer Anderson (who also produced the film) is wise and completely engaging; he creates indelible characters who are ultimately inspiring and uplifting. Edward James Olmos gives what he considers to be the performance of a lifetime, and the rest of the cast is terrific as well-with a special shout-out to Glynn Turman. The direction, by Olmos's son Michael, is sure-handed, getting terrific performances from his cast, including his father, in this father-son story, and it's beautifully lensed. The music, including jazz and a title track written by Anderson, is pitch-perfect, supporting the story without getting in the way. This film should be seen by everybody-and I'm sure it will be in mainstream distribution soon, as this is a time when, although the major studios may have turned their backs on substance, terrific indie films like this one have many other possible venues. If you can't see it at a film festival, like I did, keep a keen eye out for it. Terrific and inspiring.

Humanity was about to achieve Faster than Light travel. A little over a year ago Dr. Hans Hartmann, a college professor in Germany, had sent up a satellite with his experiment device. He had been experimenting with Faster Than Light devices his entire adult life. Throughout his tenure at the Universities of Munich, he worked on his pet project. He had students, assistants, and aides, working on his experiments. Finally on his 70th birthday Dr. Hans made a working devices. Using his life savings he purchased a 3D printer, the newest and most advanced one ever made. Dr. Hans made a simple rocket to hold his satellite and Drive. Then He got the proper permission to launch his rocket. On their first try they made it out of the atmosphere. He activated the device for 1 second, and the satellite went from low earth to about halfway to the moon. Nearly 192, 199. 12 km. Everyone was elated, but that was just the beginning. Thanks to his advanced 3D printer, Dr. Hans built two more satellites/rockets in two months. The FTL drives took four months to build though. He tested the FTL Drives a second and third time, to make sure it worked properly. They did, but that's when the politics started. Everyone wanted to be the first to fly in a craft capable of Faster than Light travel. Hans didnt care as long as he got to continue his experiment. Germany, The UK, Russia, and The US all argued on who would get to fly said craft. The US said that they should because they and made the advances in 3D printing that made it all possible. Russia said that they should be in charge because they had the most experience in space exploration. The UK and the UN both thought that because of their contribution to the beginning of the experiment, that they should get control. And of course Germany said that because a German had invented the FTL that they should stay in control. Though technical Dr. Hans was born in South America, in French Guiana. While the nations bickered, Dr. Hans sent up another satellite. This time Dr. Hans placed his beloved little dog into a small capsule connected to the satellite. To test if there were any negative effects. He was confident that there was no physical damage done. But no one would be going up in a spacecraft till they were sure. The rocket made orbit, then they activated the FTL. Several minutes later the video came back of a confused, but intact dog. The dog made it back to earth just in time to see a compromise made by the nation's vying for the right to control the space craft. The United States would build the space craft Dr. Hans would pace his FTL Drive in, and the secondary pilot would be America. The main pilot would be Russian. The UK and UN would both get one scientist who would document the experiment. The whole thing would be controlled out of Germany. That settled, the United States started to build a four man spacecraft. It would take Three months to finish the shell and the inside. So while everyone waited, American and Russian pilots trained and prepared. Hoping to be picked to be the pilot and copilot. At the same time scientists from all over the world rushed to Germany. All taking course to see if they were physically capable of taking the strain of space flight. The competition was fierce. But in the end, Susan Smith from London, and the French scientist Camille Duvall, were chosen to represent The UK and UN. Finally after three excruciating months, the spacecraft was finished. The Americans attached the craft to a jumbo jet, and few it to Germany. While it was unloaded, and the rockets needed to get the craft to space, were made. The final test to see who would pilot and copilot the spacecraft were taken. In the end Major Vladimir Korolev was picked to pilot and command the mission. He had made fifteen flights into space, more than anyone else. Major Amanda Rhinestone was initially chosen to represent the US. But two months before Lift of Day, she got pneumonia. Her hospital stay ended her chance to go into space. So Major Rich Michael Armstrong was chosen to take her place. A veteran of six space flights, he was the next most experienced astronaut. Throughout all of this, Dr. Hans had given a huge budgie to continue his work. Eight more satellites were sent into space. More human analogs and different material were tested to see if there were any negative effects. As far as anyone could tell there were no effects on the analogs or materials. The animals used on the test always seemed agitated after the jump, but there never seemed to be any injuries so it was decided it was human safe. With all this data and test finished, the spacecraft and rockets were set up and the launch day was set. The fateful day finally approached. Everyone was glued to the TV, or streaming platform. Well not everyone. Elizabeth Fredric Sharman was sick and tired of all the to-do and bother. She was in college in London to achieve her goal of becoming an ambassador. That or work for the ambassadorial staff. This was her last semester. But every time something about the FTL drive or a satellite launch came on, classes were canceled or moved or something would happen. Her growing fear was that they wouldnt finish on time, and she would have to wait a whole nother year before she could graduate. Plus what use could she have in exploration? She very much doubted that an ambassador would be needed in space travel. So that was while everyone was gathered in the cafeteria watching the TV, Elizabeth was in one corner studying and not paying any attention. “5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Liftoff! ” The translator breathlessly announced. Everyone cheered, forcing Elizabeth to look up. People high-fived, hugged and patted each other on the back. Timothy, one of the people in Elizabeths class, jumped into the chair across from Elizabeth. “Come on El! Come celebrate with us! Were not going to have class today, might as well have a good time! ” he crooned. “Were going to have to take the exam soon. I dont want to fall behind just because you all want to have a party. ” Elizabeth scoft. “Oh come off it El. This is a historic day! Were going to be traveling to the stars soon, and you're stuck here going on about exams. ” “This is important to me, it used to be important to you too. Plue what does space travel have to do with what we're trying to do. They're not going to need people like us out there. They are going to need scientists and explorers. Not politicians, and bureaucrats. ” Elizabeith mused. “Well if you were paying attention, you would know about half of our class is talking about changing vocations. Rogers and Penny both transferred to the new class that the professors just made. ” Elizabeth groaned. Penny had volunteered, with Elizabeth, to work for one of the ambassadors in London. The only reason either had been accepted was because both worked well together, Ambassador Trevor was uninterested with only one of them. She had said on several occasions that if one quit the other wouldnt stay very long. “Come on El, there's so much more we can do now. Working in politics will be so unimportant compared to whats coming. ” “No, even if we are exploring the universe. People will still need us to do the important work here. ” Timothy through his hands up in the air in defeat, “Find, have it your way! ” Elizabeth shook her head and got back to studying. Major Rich Michael Armstrong glanced over to Major Vladimir Korolev, the man was completely engrossed in piloting the Spacecraft. Rich had only known the man for about four months. But Rich had begrudgingly admitted only recently, that the man was the better pilot. It still stung a little to not be in command. Shaking the distraction away Rick looked back to his instruments. “Fuel good, temp good, 15 second till we reach low earth, ” Rick read off. “Very good! ” Korolev responded. Rick looked back to the eggheads. “OK Docs your up in 18. ” Susan looked ill, but functional, and Camille Duvall looked better than expected. He at least hadnt passed out. But he was on his second barf bag. “Roger, ” Susan managed to reply. The two scientists pulled themselves together and started working on their instruments. As the ship began to smooth out, Korolev angled the spacecraft to start an orbit. They would make one trip around the world, and when they were over Europe Korolev would point the ship out to space. Then they would activate the FTL Drive. No more than a second though. While they orbited the earth Rick got a good look at the earth. No matter how many times he saw it it took his breath away. “It's so beautiful, ” Susan said after finishing her calculation. “Yes, Ill never get over it, no matter how many times I come up here. ” Korolev responded. “I always try to spot the great wall of China. I missed it the last time. ” Rick interjected. Duvall got out of his restraints and put his barf bags in the trash bin. “I just wish there was an easier way of getting into space. My stomach couldnt handle too much more of this. ” he said. Everyone got a good chuckle out of it. Around ninety minutes later the spaceship was almost in position to make its historic jump. Korolev called into traffic control. “Home, this is Explore 1, we are almost in position. Permission to begin countdown to activate FTL drive. ” “Explore 1, this is Home, permission granted. ” came the response. “Home, this is Explore 1, we receive and are beginning countdown. ” Rick started the clock. The jump would be automatic, no need for Rick or Korolev to push a button. Everyone had strapped again and prepared themselves. Then Korolev pointed the nose of the spacecraft
Trump is 100% representative of the narrativisation and fictionalisation of US politics. WWE wrote large. Corbyn too, only nobody told him he was in a pantomime. Windows on the world hilton head. It was a pretty old house. It still had horse hair insulation, that velvet damask wallpaper, dirt floor basement, crystal door knobs, cubby holes that you could crawl from one room to another and a really nice clawfoot tub along with an awesome woodstove. It was big enough that it had a front and back staircase. The front staircase was really ornate but the back staircase was basicly just plywood. Ok so now that you have a visual, on with my famly's expierinces. When I was very young I became more aware of the noises and actions and my parents would tell me it was all in my head. The older I got I began to doubt that. Starting with the everyday and night experiences there were footsteps up and down every night, mostly heard on the creaky back stair case. Low knocks on the walls, taps on the windows, items moved or crashed on the floor and the scariest was gentle scratching noises under my bed and feeling someone sit on my bed. I began wrapping my blankets over my head and blocking my ears with my fingers. Around 10 it became more intense. Doors opening and closing with enough force that it was definately not a draft. The silverware draw was completely pulled out and smashed to the floor when everyone was in the living room. Feeling not so much a tug on my hair but feeling like someone was lifting up strands. At this point my little brother(6yo) me (10yo) had been sharing a bedroom. All the rooms were huge. My Dad built me my own bedroom that was previously attic space but on the same floor. It was huge and was more like a living room with a bedroom around the corner. Every couple of days I would be in bed and hear my door creak open, someone walk over to my bed and sit down. It was terrifying. I still used my go to blankets over my head and fingers in my ears. The knocking on the walls started to become more louder and fast. The scratching under my bed seemed to be a bit more violent. My parents still dismissed our fears. When I was around 11 or 12, it became even more intense. I had to babysit my little brother almost everday during the week. This was back in the day when tvs has knobs to change the channels. we would be in the living room watching tv and the knobs would visually turn channels. Sometimes only a few channels over and other times fast thru a bunch of channels. Like my parents, I downplayed it to my little brother and just took him outside to play pickle or kick the can with the neighborhood kids. They had already told me the rumors about the house and would hardly ever come over. The most notable expierence was walking down the back stairs. A strand of my hair was tugged hard and I heard distinct breathing in my ear. I grabbed my brother and went across the street and waited in the pouring rain for my parents to get home. Ironicly where we waited was an entrance to an old cemetery, but I don't believe it was related to the haunting. The older I got the more aggressive it got. Tv knobs still being turned, curtains moving, steps up the stairs turned to stomps. The weirdest to me was the phone cord. It was one of those extremely long cords. The whole family was in the kitchen and it started spinning. Not like a regular spin but diagonally like a lasso about 5 feet off the wall. My parents downplayed that too. But by then it didn't matter. I started to become desensitized. Going into fifth or sixth grade I acquired a best friend. She would come over and it turned out we were both really into the supernatural. Watcher. in the Woods with Betty Davis was our favorite movie. Anyways, I ended up telling her about the house and we came up with a brilliant plan to buy one of those hasbro Ouija boards. Candles lit and everything. Never even thinking it would work and I don't remember if it actually did but one dumb day while babysitting I had my innocent little brother play with me. The board immediately worked. My brother was freaked out but my dumb ass kept going. I don't remember the exact questions but one of the answers was "kill John" my little brother. My addiction with all things horror (movies, books) led me to believe I had to burn the board. I took it out to the side yard and tried to burn it but it just scorched a little bit. My father asked why there was a pile of burnt leaves and sticks. I told him why and he got really serious. He dug the board out of the sticks and leaves and tried to burn it himself in the wood stove. It still just scorched but more charcoal like. He just thru it in the trash after that. Sorry, I know this is insanely long but I really enjoy remembering. After that, things didn't get so much worse, but different. I had a huge double closet filled with metal hangers. The sound of them clanking agajnst each other, like a hand was sweeping over them became the new scare. I reverted to my usual fingers in my ears, blankets over my head. But then I started to get pissed. I was so sick of being scared. I started yelling at whatever it was to leave us alone whenever it happened. And yelling that I wasn't scared anymore. And telling it to fuck off ( I still cuss like a truck driver. I had a game most people wont remember called boggle. It was a cube of letters you shook up and then tried to find as many words as possible. One day I sat it in my little living room and arranged the letters to say "Fuck you" before bed. I woke up to the words being scrambled to say "hump. Gross. I know. Everything ramped up. Louder knocks. heavier sitting on my bed, and more fequent visits into my room. By then I didn't give a fuck for real. I know it sounds weird but I started calling out before I went to bed to wake me up at a certain time and it actually did with more gentle knocks by my bed. When something visual happened I would say cut it out. It didn't really listen that much, but sometimes it did. So end of that expierence. By the time I started fighting back we moved. A few years later my parents admitted it was haunted and described some of their expierences too. I am still drawn to that house and am dying to walk thru it again to see if it remembers me. Weird I know. I have researched the history of owners or events related to that house forever. The rumor was that an older women died there and had an Irish. wake and funeral. It was held in the house and lasted 7 days. I have desperatley searched for the previous owners names but found nothing. One notable thing is that the house has changed hands quite a few times since then. A few months ago I brought it up to my Mom. She told me the previous owners were a woman and her son that was a well known Judge. Their last name was Moriarty. Also told me how the day after the house was sold the womens daughter ripped the kitchen phone off the wall and screamed at my mother that now we couldn't use it to make long distance calls. It didn't take long to find info on the son (nothing on the mother. He was a well known judge. This is the most fucked up thing I learned from his obituary. He took a sabbatical to travel the world to visit sites that people claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary. Why that is important is, out of everything that happened, seeing the image (classic depiction) of the Virgin Mary in my little brothers bedroom window was the most predominant memory. I wasn't scared, but more curious and then it faded. What are the chances? Also to note I am agnostic but for some reason I have always felt a deep connection with her (representation) and when I feel I need someone to guide me I recite the Hail Mary. Thanks for the few that probably read this. Like I said, it is more for therapeutic reasons. I have more stories that have happened throughout my life, including stupidly using a home made Ouija when I was about 15/16. It pretended to be a little boy, gave death details and location in New Hampshire but it became more obvious we wern't communicating with a child. At present time, I have been seeing moving shadows out of the corner of my eyes and every once in a while I see orbs. It is what it is. I still am dying to go take a tour of that house though.
