Ex-con Piet Hoffman, now a “covert human intelligence source” for the Stockholm police, is deeply implanted into the Polish Mafia. He is attempting to stop the organization from controlling drug distribution in Sweden’s prisons, and all the while, Hoffman is also a family man with a wife and two young sons. When Hoffman is involved in a fouled-up drug deal that.. This is one of the best crime novels I have read in a long time. For me it exceeded the Larsson series everyone loved. It is so well written. There wasn't a single moment when I felt that even one word was extraneous, except maybe when I was confused with the foreign terms but that had nothing to do with the book itself. The book is set in an unfamiliar place for most Americans, since it takes place mostly in Sweden. Every character has a unique purpose and is developed specifically in a way to.. *finishes book, snaps cover closed* Queue Extreme Ways by Moby. If you don't know this reference we can no longer be friends; I have no desire to speak with you further. If you actually know that reference, you need to let me know so I can congratulate you on Your Awesome. This book was like Bourne Identity meets Boondock Saints meets Shooter meets The Departed. But also with an extra shot of kick ass awesome. An informant working undercover is assigned to a prison. And while burnt... Though it took me a while (50 pages? 80? 100? ) to get into the book, once it took hold it didn't let go. For the last 300+ pages, I couldn't put it down. It's a riveting look at detective work, criminal minds, and the enormous risks, both physical and psychological, that both sides take in doing what they do. I may have vaguely known that investigators use criminal elements to spur - if not enable - their efforts. But this book, written collaboratively by a former journalist and former criminal,.. Scandinavian crime fiction has been hot for many years now, but in the wake of the unexpected success of the Steig Larsson books, it appears to be even more ubiquitous. This latest example (the third in a series, following The Beast and Box 21) takes a very straightforward and familiar plot about an undercover operative working for the Swedish police, and manages to milk it for more than 400 pages of not particularly engaging prose. The premise is that former drug addict and ex-con Piet Hoffman.. I won this hot-off-the-torturous-translation-table Swedish thriller in a goodreads giveaway contest. My review is of an uncorrected advance reading copy, so it is possible that changes may be made to the text before it is released in January 2011. Three Seconds is the first novel I've read by Roslund & Hellstrom. I don't know what it is about Sweden as a country that makes it inclined to produce crime novels that are so much more interesting, insightful and refreshing than the formulaic.. PROTAGONIST: DI Ewert Grens; infiltrator Piet Hoffman SETTING: Sweden SERIES: #5 of 5; 3rd book translated into English RATING: 4. 75 One of the tools that police departments often use is to develop a network of informants, people on the street who have access to the kind of information that they would be hard pressed to uncover. In some cases, the informant goes even further, with the subject actually infiltrating an organization that is of interest to the authorities. Such is the role of Piet.. I love Scandinavian Crime Fiction. This book cover says it is the best book of the year. It is good but not the best Scandinavian crime fiction you can read. I don't know all the books that came out in the last year, but I know that this is not at the level or Henning Mankel, Arnarldur Idridisson, Helen Turston, Sjowall and Wahloo, Karen Fossum, Ake Edwardson, Hakkan Nesser and certainly is no Stig Larsson. This book also does not compare to the quality of England's Peter Lovsey, or the U. S... Amazing and exciting reading!! “Three Seconds” is written by Anders Roslund (journalist) and Borge Hellstrom (ex-criminal). I had a good time reading this book despite that it was not easy at first. The authors were in no hurry to bring their story into focus and they took a lot of time to "set up" the context what gave a "false" pace until the half of the book. They gave many details about the characters which allow readers to anticipate their reactions and understand their decisions. Readers.. Call him Paula. That’s what his handlers in the Stockholm police do. Codename Paula is their inside man within the dangerous Polish mob, which has infested Sweden’s underworld with drugs and other nefarious activities. At their behest, he walks a terrifying path ? turning a blind eye to death and murder as he commits some crimes in order to stop others. And at every moment, with each new crime and deception, he knows that one wrong word or off action could cause his long-standing deception to.. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher. Many writers are currently being touted as the next Stieg Larsson. These writers are no exception. Many librarians are struggling with what to recommend to readers who want more in the style of Larsson's Millenium trilogy. I'm not sure that this book qualifies. Piet Hoffman is a devoted husband and father but he hides a secret. He is also an ex-con who has been working undercover as a mole for the Stockholm police for the last nine years... Fantastic Swedish crime when one starts to sympathise with the villain, against all odds. A calculated, intense, and dark story about an underworld that almost certainly exists and leaves me questioning why people do what they do. Underneath it all, criminals are people too, who make choices, have feelings, and are just as vulnerable and fragile. Perfect escapist summer reading for fans of Stieg Larssen’s “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy. I listened to the audiobook, and I have a feeling it made the book better. (I mind verbosity and repetitiveness less in conversation than on the printed page. ) The story is fairly easy to figure out and lacks the intricate subtlety and the intriguing lead characters of the Larssen books: The lead detective is a cliché and not much fun, but the ex-con protagonist infiltrator makes up for this. The.. Exciting story, started a little slow building the story but really took off and what a great ending. At times the book was hard to read because of the street names and foreign names throughout the book but overall it did not take away from the story. I enjoyed the fierce intensity that Ewert Grens had in this book, he doggedly pursued his investigation and at times I thought he was going to ruin the outcome of the story but in the end it all came together! Really 3. 5. I liked the viewpoint of the police informer - interesting psychology but I really don't like DCI Ewert Grens. The most annoying aspect was the constant repetition of information - more editing please! 3. 5 interesting storyline on how the Swedish use informers and the corruption inherent in it. Closer to 2. 5 STARS... but I’m rounding down to 2. 0 STARS. It was OK but if I knew when I started this book what I know now I probably would have passed on this one. Don’t get me wrong. The writing is very strong, almost addictive in its cadence and flow and smooth transition between characters but the subject matter simply isn't my gig. So why did I read it? Some background color... I bought this book, along with a half dozen others, for $0. 50 at my library’s annual.. Three Seconds by the Swedish writing team of Anders & Hellstrom is pretty good. Once I had the chance to really get into the book, I enjoyed it more. However, I didn't feel that it was anything so special that I'd want to read anything else by them. Piet Hoffman is a former criminal turned police informant. He has managed to delve deeply into a Polish mafia drug ring. His next move is to get himself arrested so that the mafia can expand into the prison--which is when Hoffman and the Swedish.. I enjoyed the narrator. The book was good, but I think it will work better as a movie. I liked all the planning done by the main character and his meticulous attention to details. I found the stance against informants getting away with crimes. I admit it was taken a little far, and was underhanded, but it seems commonplace to overlook minor crimes to catch major criminals. I did keep picturing Joel Kinnaman as Piet... #abookbecomingamoviein2019 #theinformer #abs Book 5, in the Grens & Sundkvist series This book is by far from being short in fact it is close to 500 pages of intense reading. The plot is multi-faceted and it takes its merry time to spring into action but once started it crakes up tension and our engagement with the novel. Some entering midstream into this series may feel at a lost since the bleakly eccentric protagonist has a very heart wrenching past which is essential to know. The novel deals with criminals in contemporary Sweden, the.. This was a fantastic Sweedish read By Anders Roslund and Borge Hellstrom and written in the style of the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series by Stieg Larsson. This story takes place in Stockholm and surrounds the plight of "Paula" (the main character is male) who is caught up in the Polish mafia's attempt to flood the Sweedish drug trade as well as being hung out by the justice system. Until the conclusion, it is difficult to predict who will survive and who will fall to their respective life.. This is the second book in the series that I've read by these Swedish authors. I thought

Most people around me are scared about this virus. My the GOD of the MOST HIGH protect his people???. I love your message brother. Thank you. Along with dispensationalism comes the change of the Alimight Name of Yahuah ???? and Yahusha ????? yet again. We need the power of the true Name of Messiah Yahusha. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. YAHUCHANON (JOHN) 5:43 ?? CEPHER He came in Yahuah's Name, He does not have many Names, He has been given many titles. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, guard them by your name, the same name which ?? eth-you have given me, that they may be yachad as we are. YAHUCHANON (JOHN) 17:11 ?? CEPHER His Name was given to Him by Yahuah and it's the same Name of Yahuah that guards us. 7 other witnesses tell us Blessed is He coming in the Name of Yahuah Yahuah's Name is Yahuah, not Lord or God like they intentionally translated 6823 times. Yahusha's Name was removed 216 Times, Yeshua 28 times and Yahushua 2 times. John 12:13, Luke 13:35, Luke 19:38, Matthew 21:9, Matthew 23:39, Mark 11:9, Acts 26:14 -16 The name of Jesus is 500 years old and He was never called it. It's a huge reason why people accept these doctrines because they've been made to accept Names being changed, Sabbaths being changed like these verses intentionally mistranslated Matt 28:1; Mark 16:2; Mark 16:9; Luke 24:1; John 20:1; John 20:19 ; Acts 20:7; 1 Corin. 16:2 to First Day of the week rather than Sabbaton in the Greek as it so clearly reads Sabbath. They tell us the moral precepts of the Torah and 10 commandments don't matter and so much more which all falls in line with what you're saying. Scripture does not honor these things being changed, our Heavenly Father doesn't and His Son our Almighty Messiah Yahusha doesn't. People need to realize the name of Jesus Christ matches Chi-Xi-Stigma which is the true mark of the beast in the Greek as it was written. Not 666. Yahusha is not the lawless one and Jesus is apparently the one who did away with the law. All the pictures are an abomination and direct opposite of the truth and they all hold the abbreviation IX XC or IX XS or one we all know IHS which is 100% a direct translation that's well known as Jesus Christ. Hard pill to swallow but it's truth. Satan will come as an angel of light to fool the masses and synagogue of Satan. Even the Kabbalah is leaching into the church and all and spreading the lies that their Metatron (Who they call Yeshua but not our Yeshua) is the true Messiah that Ben David and Ben Joseph will usher in with Elijah. Read this and study yourself.

The informer pour mieux. The informer sur les. Books | Stoking the Fire Larsson Ignited Books of The Times This is the sound of music, for those who publish mystery novels these days: “He accelerated after Slussen, along Stadsgardskajen, then braked and turned off just before Danvikstull bridge and the municipal boundary with Nacka. Down Tegelviksgatan and then left into Alsnogatan to the barrier that blocked the only road up to Danviksberget. ” In other words: Sweden. Even better, it’s Stockholm, a k a the place where Stieg Larsson lived, died and somehow managed to write his blockbuster Millennium trilogy along the way. The passage is from “Three Seconds, ” which is not the first book written by the odd-couple team of Anders Roslund (journalist) and Borge Hellstrom (ex-criminal). But “Three Seconds” is the first Roslund and Hellstrom book that has been wishfully packaged to suggest that “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” has a second cousin. “Three Seconds” spent the better part of a year on Swedish best-seller lists. Its authors won a prize ? the Swedish Academy of Crime Writers’ Award for Swedish Crime Novel of the Year ? that has also been awarded to Larsson and Henning Mankell. They know how to deliver the kind of stilted, world-weary verbosity that somehow quickens the pulses of this genre’s readers. Even better, they are on a first-name basis with the Seven Dwarfs of Scandinavian Noir: Guilty, Moody, Broody, Mopey, Kinky, Dreary and Anything-but-Bashful. Mr. Roslund and Mr. Hellstrom know better than to make “Three Seconds” short, no matter what kind of brevity its title describes. So this is a nearly 500-page book with a many-faceted plot, and the authors are in no hurry to bring their story into focus. They begin with a kind of party exhortation: “Eat, drink, and throw up. ” Those are the instructions given to drug mules who have ingested small rubber parcels of amphetamines and have successfully transported them into Sweden from Poland. There’s a nugget of social criticism at the heart of this plot idea. The Polish mafia’s plan to expand into Sweden involves supplying drugs to Swedish prisons, euphemistically referred to as “the closed market” in this story. A scheme like this necessarily involves two Swedish authorities: the police and the Prison and Probation Service. Image The book ascribes malfeasance to both sides, saying that “the Police Service has for many years used criminals as covert human intelligence sources, ” that the police conceal and deny this process, and that prison authorities quietly condone it. “If prisoners were not high on chemical substances, ” the authors write in an afterword, “the Prison and Probation Service would be forced to improve skills and competence at a cost that we, society, would not be prepared to pay. ” That brings us to Paula, the mysterious character who appears in the book’s violent opening. Paula is one of the drug mules on the Poland-to-Sweden route. Paula is the code name for a man, Piet Hoffman. And Piet is a Swedish police infiltrator whose dealings with top-level Polish gangsters have put him in an exceedingly dangerous situation. He is also a bona fide ex-con, since the police believe that it takes a real criminal to impersonate one. The drug deal turns violent. A second police informant, who is Danish, is killed by the mobsters. Piet escapes and is on the run. To add to his troubles he is saddled with the trumped-up criminal record that the police created for him, so that he appears to be a much more dangerous character than he actually is. And Piet, though a stereotypically devoted family man, knows that he is headed for prison. So he concocts the elaborate scheme that is at the heart of “Three Seconds” and which eventually makes this a nail biter of a book. Most of this plan’s particulars are too clever to be given away here. But as a sample, consider Piet’s use of tulips. Just before he’s scheduled to report to prison, he buys fresh, tightly closed tulips. He warms them until they open. He inserts a packet of amphetamines inside each flower. He then cools the flowers at exactly the temperature that will keep them shut for 24 hours, by which time they will be on the desk of a prison official, ostensibly as a gift from local businessmen. Fans of the genre are more apt to appreciate the devilishness of such plot details than the tiresome, vaguely flawed character development that comes with them. Here is Piet, going to a meeting before he heads to prison: “Piet Hoffman stopped a couple of meters from the door, emptied himself as he always did of all thoughts, all feelings, pushed them aside and kicked them down and then he had put on his armor ? that thick, horrible layer, his goddamn shield, he was good at it, at not letting himself feel anything ? one more time, one more bloody time. ” There are too many bloody times when “Three Seconds” bogs down this way. Perhaps something is lost in translation. Certainly something will be lost on those who, in reading “Three Seconds, ” are entering the authors’ Ewert Grens series in midstream. Grens is Piet’s main antagonist in “Three Seconds” and is presented as a bleakly eccentric character with a heart-rending back story. Grens is in deep mourning for his wife, who spent much of her life in a nursing home after being accidentally run over by her husband. Grens is obsessed with a vintage Swedish pop singer who means more to him than she will to you. He is a loner who lies on the floor a lot. But he has the aura of a beloved curmudgeon, and he is liable to be back in other half-decent Millennium knockoffs along the lines of this one. Might as well get used to him.

Unfortunately this is a common theme coming out of the grinder of movie production. In this story, FBI man betrays bad man who is trying to do the right thing by his family. Nasty FBI man, shame on you. Fortunately nice FBI lady has a conscience and gets it sorted. I like anything with Kinnaman because it can mask a weak story or a poor production. Not that this film suffers from either, it's just that he is a good actor and hypnotizes me into believing I have seen a good movie or have even enjoyed it. So I enjoyed this flick even if I can't remember what it was about because it starred the Kinnaman.
