Synopsis: Alice, a single mother, is a dedicated senior plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. She has engineered a very special crimson flower, remarkable not only for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value: if kept at the ideal temperature, fed properly and spoken to regularly, this plant makes its owner happy. Against company policy, Alice takes one home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe. They christen it 'Little Joe' but as it grows, so too does Alice's suspicion that her new creations may not be as harmless as their nickname suggests

So it's a modern day take on an old sci-fi classic, with a slight twist, fine we understand that quick enough. However, it fails in direction completely, cold acting with warm and pastal colours is just a cliche.

The lead actor centre stage and holding the shot whilst (kabuki) music plays (clearly thinks it has something to do with ikebana) gives an ominous feel, REALLY. You care nothing for the characters, why should you, that's the premise of the film. As for the soundtrack, well it is very annoying, a drum here, an asthmatic whistle there, a tin can, what sounds like a box of chihuahua's, just annoys the viewer. The style, it tries but falls flat, the plant is shown in vivid pink, alluding to the passion it feels, the lead actor originally wears bold colours but then the pastoral colours come in later, why they have to wear 70's clothing to allow this when the rest of the film is clearly in the here and now god knows. A typical critics film from a director who believes their own hype finding what they need to find in films as their own lives are one dimensional and so far from a real film goer. Don't even start on the dialogue. A ten minute short would give you a better experience.

Mir gefällt der Joe besser, aber der Cobra ist billiger wa. like wie immer. Sieht doch gut aus. Another one of those trailers where by watching it, you've already seen the movie. lol. From a Baron into the badlands to an ugly hair cut scientist Well i'll pass. This is the worst ad I've ever gotten while trying to fall asleep... This movies gonna put corporate a-holes on blast. Haahhaha amzaing. Bunları partlatdığın yerin adı n?di. Wow, looks like a great movie! Very true to life. Can't wait. I don't think that this movie deserved the award for best actress, but it is nonetheless one of the best that premiered at Cannes 2019. But one thing that I really like about the protagonist, is her immense sadness and her inability to let go. Even though the acting may be a little, so to say, minimalist, the character itself is deep and layered in a beautiful manner.

The sterile acting reminds me of how Lanthimos builds his characters in movies such as "The Killing of the Sacred Deer" or of the infinite space of boredom that lies between the characters in Antonioni's "The Night. The idea of the modified plants is used in an intelligent and minimalist way. I like to see how the perspectives change and evolve during the film, in regards to the benefits or dangers of this plant "Little Joe. The plot it's like a developing state of psychosis; you cannot grasp the truth or the meaning of concepts, you lose your ability to understand what's right or wrong and you're lost in a sea of lies. The cinematography is another strong point for "Little Joe. Even from the first shot, of the CCTV spinning round the flowers, I knew that this is gonna be a visual feast. The use of mirrors, glass, deep focus and travelling shots is utterly stunning. I don't get the negative reviews, but each to their own. If you like films such as those directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and Michelangelo Antonioni, with a flair of light sci-fi going on, you're gonna love this one.

Ce choix de ne jamais vouloir prendre une direction tranchée dans l'évolution de l'intrigue et de jouer et dérouler... Une expérience moderne qui démontre que la science est parfois stupide. On peut d’ailleurs noter un certain cynisme dans ce domaine, j'ai apprécié l'actrice principale qui participe grandement à l'étude du suspense. J'ai quelques réserves sur l'utilisation volumineuse de la musique, qui n'a pas toujours sa place dans un duel de dialogues bien troussés. J'ai soupiré à plusieurs reprises à cause de ça mais c'est un bon moment, un film... Le bonheur par les fleurs! Voilà l'objectif que s'est fixé un laboratoire en créant une espèce végétale génétiquement modifiée dont le parfum doit rendre heureux son propriétaire à condition de s'en occuper régulièrement.
