この本は、かつてのアニメシリーズのロマンアルバムに似た編集方針、つまり各々のエピソードガイド、設定画(登場人物：惑星グロリエ側→ ゾル人側)、登場メカデザインの設定画〔スタジオ「アンモナイト」による、未公開デザイン画、初期構想段階のスケッチ画〕で構成されています。
特に重要なのは、1984年当時のガイドブックが放送直後に出版されたため、概ね第3話までのデザイン画しか掲載されていないのに対して、シリーズ中の全ての話数に対するデザイン画を対象にしている点です。
しかしながら、ページ数の制約、特にロボテック版の全話数のエピソード解説とロボテック独自の新規設定画を掲載するため、原作「超時空騎団サザンクロス」のデザイン画のうち、街並み等の美術設定画の大半が省略されているのが残念です。
また、スタジオUDONによる英文翻訳の解説は特にメカデザインに関して、デザイン画と機体の解説か誤って付されている箇所が複数散見されます。
他のレビュアーの方も書いてますが、間違いを訂正し、初版にて掲載が漏れたデザイン画に対しては改訂版としての第二版を出版することで、是非とも補完してほしく思います。
日本未公開の原作のデザイン画を英語で読むしかない状況は歯がゆくもありますが、それでもなお、この資料本のみに掲載がされたデザイン画の価値は日本人として英語を辞書引きしながらでも読み解きする価値があると思います。
