Although Hiro is several yearsyounger than Jack Archer, the twowere classmates at the RobotechAcademy where they became fastfriends admiring the skills of theother. After graduation, Hiro wasassigned to a Tomahawk Destroidonboard the SDF-1 and wassubsequently stranded onboard duringthe accidental hyperspace fold. While Jack remained on Earth, Hirowas defending the SDF-1 againstconstant Zentraedi attacks. Theseinitial experiences tainted his viewof the Zentraedi and views them aslittle more than animals notdeserving of any mercy. After theZentraedi bombardment of the Earth,Hiro and Jack were reunited at Base6, although their friendship isstrained at times because of Hiro'sattitude towards the Zentraedi andhis inferiority complex with hisDestroid assignment.
