?? ?? ??? ??? ??? ??? ?? ??. In movies, love is often all rose petals, kisses in the rain and clichéd grand gestures. Not here. Instead, co-directors Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn (who gave us 2012’s similarly stirring Good Vibrations) give us a tender drama which comes alive in its quietest, most undemonstrative moments. A bit like the real thing. Tom (Liam Neeson) and Joan (Lesley Manville) lead a simple life in retirement, following the death of their only child. Their lives are intentionally undramatic. Joan adding Worcester sauce to their evening soup is about as exciting as it gets. Then she notices a lump, and we all know what’s coming up. This first screenplay from playwright Owen McCafferty isn’t entirely cliché-free ? a graveside speech from Tom rings a little hollow ? but it’s scrupulous in showing that love isn’t all sonnets and bouquets. Through Manville and Neeson’s considered performances, we see the way that Tom and Joan’s love is expressed in small gestures ? they forgive each other’s irritating habits, Joan allows that extra beer Tom shouldn’t have, Tom teases Joan while shaving her head after chemo with “I never really liked your hair. ” Don’t expect dramatic fireworks ? very little happens narratively ? but prepare for this quiet film to tiptoe into your heart. You’ll find yourself hanging on Manville’s typically sensitive and ultimately heartbreaking performance (one which surely must get her some recognitition come awards season), and appreciating the tender side of Neeson, who is note-perfect throughout and leavers you wishing he was in this kind of movie more regularly. It all adds up to a melancholic portrait of real love that lingers but never wallows in despair. This is an extraordinary telling of a problem that will be all too familiar with many people in the audience. Away from the direction, screenwriting and acting, there’s also a lot to admore in the ambient score from David Holmes and Brian Irvine, and the cinematography from Piers McGrail. DIRECTOR Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn RELEASE DATE Feb 13.

One of my fave songs of all time. simply wonderful to hear again. Can honestly say this ranks as one of the most beautiful songs and performances ive ever witnessed, absolutely stunning. Masterpiece Id say. Sometimes keeping a film simple and not overdoing it with dramatic music or big set plays actually allows a film to resonate to a larger extent and that's certainly the case here. A reminder that Neeson is actually quite the versatile actor with the right material and a powerful lead alongside him. Emotional and a story that will likely effect most of us at sometime an intelligent, respectful yet all the powerful for it film that did not overstate or understate in any department but struck the perfect tone. Not necessarily for everyone but I for one thought it was fantastic.

Love this song took me forever to look for it. I love you Sade. ????? #soldieroflove.
Gorgeous. Brilliant. Sad it got overlooked. But, still gorgeous. A young man is consumed by the death of his older brother and the fact that the killer was never prosecuted. 'Ordinary Love (2019) is exactly what it says on the tin: a portrait of mundane, turbulent, beautiful love. It charts the journey of a couple moving through tough times and is as thoughtful and nuanced as you'd hope. Its story is rather straightforward (it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect) but it delivers what it needs to and feels all the more 'real' because of it. The focus of the film is something that isn't actually explored all that often and it's great to see it portrayed so sensitively here. The picture's grounded, non- romanticised' romance is brilliant, too. It feels as close to 'real' as possible, an honest and moving exploration of love that never seems heightened or false. The two stars deliver the goods in their subtle, harder-than-you-may-expect roles, coming together as a compelling pair of, essentially, real people. They have flaws and they argue but they also have an undeniable connection. When this is exploited, it's really heart-warming. When it comes down to it, though, the flick just isn't all that exciting or, perhaps, impactful. It's engaging enough and never even close to boring, but it doesn't quite hit home as hard as it ought to. It's good, don't get me wrong. I can't quite put into words what it is that it is, for me, missing. I guess I'll say it like this: it's good, but it's not great. 6/10.
Bono sua voz me trás uma imensa vontade de ter um belo par de asas e voar feito uma ave livreeeee.
