I just finished watching this film at the Traverse City Film Festival, I absolutely cannot rave enough about this film! the cinematography, the acting, the dialogue, everything is absolutely spot on! It is so intense that you, as the viewer, can feel the struggle that Mike Burden is going through and it just captures you and sucks you right in. especially if you know anything about the backstory on it and what really happened. To be honest this film emotionally drained me, I am literally exhausted from watching it. I would even have to go as far as to giving it 6 out of 5 stars, this is one of those do not miss movies.
This is a remarkable story of a man's redemption and those who made it possible through courage and love. There are elements, including the name of the central character and an ironic twist that would seem like artifacts of a writer's mind, but they were not- real people, the events that happened to them, and how they chose to respond to those events, provided a story that called out to be told. This might not be the place to write this, different autistic communities online have different views on these things, but this is just how I feel so I wanted to say it. I'm 16, I'm autistic, my parents are aware and want me to get an official diagnosis even though I don't (yet anyway). My mum is a teacher and she's worked in special needs units before, and I hear a lot about her current mainstream class of primary school kids, largely the bad things. At least once a week I hear a story about the a 9 year old boy who's done something awful and she always really disdainfully ends it with 'he's clearly on the spectrum' or 'i don't know why her parents haven't figured out she's autistic yet'. Like five different kids in this one class, all pure speculation, and it's something she's done for years. She and my step-dad also do this with my step-dad's cousin - he does things like calls my step-dad every Thursday night at 10pm and likes being exact about it (which they mock) along with other things like being really interested in music as an adult, they had a band when they were teens and he's still into that kind of thing. I can't remember all the things but they do this a lot, openly talking shit about him and saying he and his kids are autistic and haven't realised it yet. And they might be right, they probably are. In the last couple months it's made me kind of hate doing things with them, which sucks because I only have a couple friends I rarely see and don't get out a whole lot besides that. I second guess everything I do, because I don't want to be a burden, I don't want to be annoying, and I don't really know whether most of the things I do are normal or not. I get that it's human nature or whatever and I know that everyone talks about everyone else behind their back, but the knowledge of how much of a burden I must be to my own parents sucks.

Level 1 Room and board should definitely be refunded, but students are still doing online classes. level 2 How about the baked in lab fees, tutor fees, other campus resources that are closed. How about the outrageous parking pass cost. level 2 I just want to point out that many school charge quite a bit extra per credit as students are paying for the “in person experience. ” Typically online classes are much less expensive per credit, and the quality of experience can be different. So I don’t think it’s out of line to ask for a discounted rate and a refund of what was already paid, though I’m not sure if that’s actually feasible for schools rn level 2 The option to refund should still be there. Online learning is a different product than the students paid for. And not all students have a home life conductive to online classes, especially with libraries and coffee shops closed. level 2 Are they? 10 credit hours of my courses have stoped all lectures. No class in the math department is posting any lectures(asynchronous or otherwise). We didn't pay to just be assigned readings and given solutions to homework; we paid to have it explained to us. level 1 They are doing/did a prorated refund on room and board, didn't they? level 1 I'm looking forward to all the lawsuits against universities in the coming months+ of them trying to cling to tuition/r&b, AKA services not rendered. level 2 Is online classes not a service fulfilled for tuition? level 2 Private universities are probably scared to death that the public universities will cave and issue refunds. Some of the privates won't survive if they have to do that. level 2 As a law student, I am too because then I could actually find work after graduation. level 1 The dean should just post a conciliatory dance video in response level 1 I support tuition refunds if the students withdraw for the semester. You don't get to eat your course credit and have your money too. level 2 This. There should be an option to withdraw for a full refund and no W. Everyone who thinks they can get their credits for the semester and some how colleges will still be legally obligated to refund them are dreaming. level 1 OSU is already planning on pro-rating housing and dining plans for this semester. OP should do his/her research... level 1 Will someone please think of the hundreds if not thousands of career academia administrators with huge bloated salaries that contribute next to nothing. They are what matter. level 2 In some cities they're throwing themselves parades to cope with the attention loss. Watching that old growth melt down has been one of few comforting things about this spring. level 2 In state university budget parlance, "administrators" are salaried employees. Coaches are administrators, lab assistants are administrators, IT people are administrators, librarians are administrators, and so on. Most "administrators" don't actually administer something. level 1 If the university's hard up for money, they can always turn to Wexner agai.... oops, nevermind.

Attempting to explain them how you feel would only result in them lashing out, becoming passive aggressive or using flat out denial and mockery. Your misery and frustration are justified in their eyes because perhaps you don't suffer at all and it's just a vile act- a performance that tries to make them look and feel bad about themselves. They don't buy into this. Obviously, if you are so pained and hurt all the time, there must be something wrong with you. You are a burden to them. Especially when it's becoming too difficult to have all of these conversations about how YOU feel, again and again with no clear resolution, because there's always something new you bring up. It just never ends! You become too difficult and suddenly, you are too selfish. Your needs are just too much to ask for. Don't you realize they have needs too? Your purpose to the narcissist is to serve and oblige to any of their whims, even at the cost of your well-being. Your tears are an attempt to manipulate them into doing something that would ultimately make them admit that they are less than perfect. Accepting that they are capable of such horrid things which you are blaming them for would mean that they are on the same league as you; Flawed. Just like the rest. Just like all the others they look down upon that passes them by at the mall or at the supermarket. They are too good to apologize. It makes them feel in control. They are convinced they are better than you when they tell you that you are crazy or too sensitive for responding like this. Denying you of what you need finally gives them everything they ever hoped for; Feeling like a winner. They are robots in human form, hence they can't understand your emotions. In fact, it would have been better if you had just remained quiet because this would have solved all these abrasive fights and conflicts that you are so excited to have with them. They truly believe that you enjoy this. You can't really make them see how you feel because honestly, they don't care. To them, you are in fact the one who doesn't understand THEIR feelings. It is a game you don't have to participate in. Block them. Remove them from your life completely. You have the responsibility to never allow anyone else but yourself to dictate your worth and feelings, so unless you truly identify as a punching bag-STAY NO CONTACT!

So, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes today. For those who are unfamiliar, this disease destroys the pancreas requiring patients to manually dose themselves with insulin. I thought I had Type 2 (where the body is insulin resistant) so I'm already kind of familiar with managing it, but it's still a huge blow to me. Once my pancreas dies for good, I will never be able to eat again without having to meticulously count carbs and take shots. Diabetes is a massive burden and I'm devastated. Consequently, I'll be hitting the mats hard. I have access to jiu-jitsu training at the office gym, but most of the classes are at 7:30 AM. This was stopping me before, but I need something to focus on and give me an outlet for emotion. Fuck diabetes, ima learn how to roll. Anyone else use BJJ this way?
