While by no means a massive critical or commercial success,? The Boy was still one of the strangest and most enigmatic mainstream horror films of 2016. The film's insane third act twist certainly divided audiences, and the old-school, throwback horror that it delivered arguably felt tame by some modern standards, but those who loved it seriously loved it. And they continue to. In 2016, the film's director, William Brent Bell, suggested that a sequel was "certainly possible" if it seemed as though "the audience wants to see another movie. Having hauled in a global box office of 64 million on a budget of 10 million, it certainly seemed like moviegoers wanted more Brahms, more Heelshire Home, and more of that crazy porcelain doll. Fortunately, fans can expert some deliciously dark doll vibes with the sequel, Brahms: The Boy II. However, if you missed out on the first movie, need a refresher on the original film, or want a primer for part two, then we've got you covered. This is everything you need to know about Brahms: The Boy II ?before it finally smashes out of the walls. Fair warning: There are massive spoilers for The Boy ahead! The Boy ended on a crazy cliffhanger Before we discuss the sequel, let's recap the original film.?In The Boy, an American nanny named Greta ( Lauren Cohan of The Walking Dead) is hired by an eccentric rich family, the Heelshires, for a very unconventional job. They want her to care for a porcelain doll named Brahms. It's a career move that any sane person would naturally run a mile from, but okay. On top of handing Greta a very specific set of rules by which to care for the doll (including talking to "him" in a loud voice and freezing his food if he doesn't eat it) it also turns out that the real Brahms was the son of the Heelshires, and he was killed in a house fire 20 years ago on his eighth birthday after one of his young friends was found in the forest with her skull crushed. Suspicious, right? Naturally, Greta ignores the rules and only starts to take them seriously when the doll begins to take on a life of its own. Brahms seemingly moves on his own, and a child's voice and sobs can be heard across the mansion. Skip to the end, and Greta discovers that,?lo and behold, the real Brahms has been alive and well, and he's now a grown man who's been living in the walls of the house. A tussle ensues, and Greta eventually stabs him with a screwdriver and flees the estate. But as we discover later, Brahms has survived. And he's busy repairing his shattered doll. Enter? Brahms: The Boy II. New characters, same old creepy doll Greta might've escaped, but it seems that the Heelshire house might still be housing Brahms, and that he and his doll are still very much out to torment whoever occupies the mansion next. As we know from the first film, Brahms is still alive, and both he and his doll won't let tiny things like flesh wounds or broken porcelain stop them. In Brahms: The Boy II, a young family will be moving into the Heelshire Mansion with no knowledge of the dark history of the place (though, fyi, people should probably do a Google deep dive on creepy old mansions before they enthusiastically move themselves into them. As the plot synopsis outlines, the young son of the family will find and befriend the spooky porcelain doll.?Considering that the first film showed the Heelshires harboring plans to turn Greta into a mate for the real Brahms (complete with making a porcelain doll based on her image) this spells some pretty terrible things for this particular young boy who will be unaware of the malevolent force he may be inviting into his life. The original director and screenwriter are returning Horror filmmaker William Brent Bell and screenwriter Stacey Menear are back for the sequel, which is great news for fans of the first film who would likely want for this sequel to retain all the same vibes they loved about The Boy. Though both remained tight-lipped about Brahms: The Boy II ?during production, it's definitely interesting that Bell and Menear have spoken about how they ended the first film to purposefully set up the groundwork for a sequel. While Bell hinted to Daily Dead that "the sequel will be a complex little story to deliver on what the first movie delivered" back in 2016, Menear told Cosmopolitan that he was already toying with an idea. The screenwriter revealed that because the first film "was based on a twist. now "there's a lot of other interesting stuff" that he feels more open to "focus on" since the audience already knows the twist going into the sequel. All in all, it gives the impression that both of them are more confident and eager to build upon the creepy world they introduced in the first movie. And it sounds like they have a lot of intriguing ideas about what Brahms will be up to next. Katie Holmes is leading the film Mike Coppola/Getty Images Former Dawson's Creek ?cast member Katie Holmes is playing Liza, a mother who moves into the mansion with her husband and young son. As a real-life mother to a young daughter, Holmes didn't have to dig too deeply into the role of a terrified mom who watches her son be drawn in by sinister forces.?In June 2019, Holmes told Entertainment Weekly, I felt like this was a story about a mother and her child and this evil presence that's influencing her child, and how that's a universal fear for every parent. " But there's also another universal fear that Holmes apparently discovered during the making of the film: dolls. They'll get you every time. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Holmes stated that working on the movie was "very creepy" and especially so when she was "working one-on-one with the doll. Stating that she "loved dolls growing up. the actor revealed that the experience of having to act opposite such a malevolent little monster as doll-Brahms made her feel like the experience was "really ruining dolls" for her. Fingers crossed that Brahms: The Boy II ?also wonderfully ruins dolls for the rest of us, too. That doll is up to no good First-look pictures from Brahms: The Boy II ?revealed some fairly sinister happenings taking place in the Heelshire house against the poor new family who've moved in there. In February 2019, a picture was released showing the porcelain doll buried in dirt, with what looks like the young son of the family covering the doll's mouth with his hand. It's interesting to note from the sleeves of the young boy's suit that he appears to be wearing a very similar outfit to that of the eerie doll. The caption released with the image unnervingly states. He's made a friend. " Meanwhile, ?two images released a few months later focused on Holmes' character, Liza, the very concerned matriarch of the new family occupying Brahms' dark playground. In one photo, Liza is staring suspiciously at the porcelain doll while holding a TV remote in her hand. Is Brahms attempting to control the family TV from behind the walls? In another, Liza is holding a flashlight in the face of the porcelain doll while looking concerned about something beyond the frame. If he's up to his old tricks, then you can bet that Brahms is still projecting the same troubling noises throughout the house, which is plenty of cause for concern for any family in a new home Brahms' new friend John Lamparski/Getty Images Rising star Christopher Convery (who you might remember as depicting a young Billy from Stranger Things in those season three flashbacks)?is playing Jude, the son of the family who becomes Brahms' new buddy. In an exclusive image shared by USA Today, Jude can be seen sitting on the couch next to the doll, both of them dressed in identical grey suits. It's difficult to imagine Jude's parents joyfully getting a local tailor to fashion a tiny suit for the kid so that he can match his new favorite doll, so instead, it could be possible that Brahms has left an old childhood suit out for Jude to wear. Considering the history of Brahms?? who had his childhood taken away from him when his parents forced him to live in the walls of the Heelshire Mansion?? it's easy to theorize that Jude could be getting used as a vehicle for Brahms to reclaim the childhood he lost. Or if the Heelshires are somehow still lurking about, it possible that they simply want the young boy to replace the son they hid behind the walls over 20 years ago. Either way, Brahms definitely has a new BFF, so good for him. Brahms: The Boy II has a stellar supporting cast Jason Merritt/Getty Images Rounding out the primary cast are Ralph Ineson?as Joseph and Owain Yeoman?as Liza's husband, Sean. While Yeoman is known best for his roles in films like The Belko Experiment and shows like Emergence and The Mentalist, Ineson will be hugely familiar to genre fans for playing grizzled, hard-worn characters in things like Game of Thrones? and? Ready Player One. Plus, there's?his memorable performance in Robert Eggers' practically flawless movie ? The Witch. Brahms: The Boy II ?is an intriguing next step for both of the UK actors who've seen their careers continue to rise and develop over the past few years. While Welsh-native Yeoman appears to be making more of the transition from TV work to cinema, the Yorkshire-born Ineson has been taking massive strides into the mainstream of late, becoming a versatile and beloved genre staple of the small and big screen and in projects of both colossal and tiny budgets. Brahms: The Boy II has an all-new composer Bear McCreary provided a startling, eerie classical piano score for the original movie, giving? The Boy a distinctly vintage, haunting feel. For the sequel, however, a new composer is stepping up for the job in the form of Brett Detar (formerly of rock band the Juliana Theory. The musician has previously collaborated with William Brent Bell by composing the nerve-grating score for the director's 2012 possession flick,? The Devil Inside. While he's certainly proved himself to be up to the task of serving up some atmospheric music to s

Posted on Thursday, January 9th, 2020 by Brahms: The Boy II brings back the uncomfortably innocent-looking doll who wreaked havoc on the life of a nanny named Greta (Lauren Cohan) in The Boy in 2016. At least thats what it seemed like until the third act of the film pulled the rug out from under audiences and revealed something much more twisted at play. And when it comes to the sequel arriving in theaters in February, it looks like Brahms may be tied to something even more sinister than the first movie revealed. /Film visited the set of Brahms: The Boy II when production was underway in Victoria, British Colombia, the western Canadian province northwest of Washington. While on set, we learned how Brahms begins a new tale of horror with a new family who is is just trying to forget a traumatic event that has left them shaken to their core. And things are only going to get worse for them after they meet Brahms. Before we get to The Boy II, lets recall what happened in The Boy, released four years ago. A young American woman named Greta ( Lauren Cohan) takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year old boy named Brahms in a small British village. However, shes a little unnerved to find that Brahms is actually a life-size doll with a porcelain face. The boys parents treat the doll as if its human, coping with the death of their real son 20 years prior. The care of the doll comes with a list of strict rules, and when the nanny starts to defy them, she comes to learn that theres more than meets the eye with this creepy little boy. In the shocking climax of the movie, the real Brahms, now a grown man, is revealed to be living in the walls of the house, which are full of secret passages. Once he makes himself known, he creeps out of a trick mirror, wearing a horrifying porcelain mask that resembles the doll Greta has started to fear. After a terrifying struggle, Greta manages to escape, leaving a a wounded Brahms behind to fend for himself, carefully repairing the Brahms porcelain doll that had been shattered in the climaxs scuffle. As the first trailer for The Boy II revealed, Brahms (the doll) is discovered by the young boy of a family staying in a cottage that happens to be near the Heelshire Mansion, where the events of the first movie takes place. Hes partially buried under some dirt and leaves, but after a quick clean-up, hes good as new. One of the big mysteries left unanswered during our set visit was exactly how Brahms came to be buried in the dirt on the grounds of the mansion. The grown-up Brahms painstakingly put the broken doll back together, even after being stabbed in the chest by a screwdriver at the end of the first film. Surely he wouldnt let it end up buried in the dirt.?Costume designer Aieisha Li provided a bit of a hint about why Brahms might have been buried as she mentions that “somebody found the doll and put him in a special burial outfit. ” Perhaps part of the mystery lies in what happened to the house after the first movie. In the trailer, theres a quick succession of shots showing Liza doing research on the doll. In one of the webpages she stumbles upon, it says that this specific doll comes from the collection of Mrs. James Heelshire, which “unfortunately has been dispersed. ” It goes on to mention that the dolls history could go as far back as 1885, but may have been created sometime between 1894 and 1896. Does that mean this doll comes from Heelshires older than those who kept their son hidden in the walls of the mansion? Regardless of the dolls history, why on Earth would any parent let their kid keep such an unsettling doll? Family Trauma Whats not shown in the first trailer for The Boy II is why parents Liza and Sean ( Katie Holmes and Owain Yeoman) and their son Jude ( Christoper Convery) have come to this lake cottage in the first place. The trailer plays it up as if Jude is a troubled kid by default, trying to scare his mother and tearing apart his teddy bear. But a home invasion has left both Jude and his mother traumatized. Shes having nightmares about the incident, and hes suddenly not speaking after being terrified in the moment. But the real trouble doesnt begin until they decide to get away. After whispers of Judes name lead him to discovering Brahms on the grounds of the Heelshire Mansion near their temporary home, he starts talking again, but more to Brahms than his actual parents. His treatment of the doll as a real person feels a little odd, especially with some very familiar rules spotted written down in the trailer. But since Jude is starting to come out of his shell after the trauma he experienced, theyre not so eager to do anything about it just yet. Theyre riding this out in the hopes that Brahms is just a therapeutic Raising the Stakes Director William Brent Bell feels like the first movie fell short in putting characters in enough jeopardy. But with an entirely new character dynamic at play with the family and the mental health of their child, Bell said the first movie almost serves as a slow burn origin story to tee-up this movie. The director reflected: “Its cool that we got to make an origin story in a way, a movie that set everything up slowly instead of jumping right into the story. Thats not normal. It didnt have a teaser at the beginning, it just starts that story slowly. It doesnt have a flashback, and thats unique. For me, there was a point that [Brahms] was doing things, leaving her a sandwich, he might have cut her hair, even though we didnt have that moment [in the movie] he takes her clothes. Theyre all cute little things, but theyre not necessarily deadly. We got to that point later in the story, but I wanted to make sure to in the second movie that we have stakes where hes not just being cute and weird, hes being deadly. ” This time, the mischief of Brahms is much more threatening, and it comes in the form of injury, possibly even death. The characters will very much be threatened this time, though the specific catalyst that makes it clear Brahms is a threat wasnt given away to us. Its hard to get an idea of what kind of horror were dealing with from this set visit ? so many secrets are being kept from us at this point in production. What Happened to Brahms House? With the exception of some shattered glass, damaged walls, and broken furniture, the Heelshire Mansion (actually historical Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, BC) was left standing at the end of The Boy. But if Jude finds Brahms in the middle of the woods on the grounds of the house, then what has happened to the house itself? Well, the house is boarded up and disheveled. It looks like some construction was being done at some point since we can see some scaffolding and whatnot outside the house in the trailer. There appears to have been a fire in the attic, where the grown up Brahms from the end of The Boy seems to have relocated since living in the walls of the mansion. Were not sure how this fire came about, but the set, which was built inside an abandoned tire shop in Victoria, BC, looks totally scorched with blackened walls, soot-covered furniture and various torched artifacts lying around. Two beams have crashed through the ceiling around a desk. Its in total disarray. Is anyone still living here? Also tied to Heelshire Mansion, we heard about a caretaker in the form of a new character named Joseph played by Ralph Ineson of The Witch. But he may be more than just a caretaker since we were told that he was the owner of the house at one point, but somehow lost it. Theres probably more of the Brahms doll backstory tied to Joseph than we know, but thats just speculation on our part. But unlike the first movie, most of the terror doesnt unfold at the mansion this. Instead, two-thirds of the movie unfolds at the lake cottage on the grounds of the mansion, and its the climax that brings us back to the mansion, specifically the basement of the house, where we havent been yet. On the set, a fog machine created an ominous setting, allowing for an eerie glow in the basement, created by light shining from the “outside” through the windows. The secret passageways within the house are also still intact, and its rather unsettling to walk through them. Even though specifics of the scene we saw filmed were not provided to give us context, its here that Liza cautiously searches the house with a shotgun in hand, eventually finding Jude eerily humming as he stands near a big, old furnace, fully ignited with practical fire burning within, adding to the hazy glow in the basement. Jude holds Brahms and slowly turns before the director yelled cut. As for what happens next, well…it sounds like well have to wait until next month. Cool Posts From Around the Web.

Who else is here after looking at 47 meeters down uncaged trailer

Posted on Wednesday, January 8th, 2020 by The Boy turned out to be a surprisingly satisfying little thriller when it was released back in 2016. Four years later, the creepy little doll at the center of the movie is coming back, and this time hes made a new friend. Brahms: The Boy II finds a new family ( Katie Holmes and Owain Yeoman) moving into a guest house that just so happens to be on the estate of Heelshire Mansion, where our old buddy Brahms used to live. In fact, their young son Jude ( Christoper Convery) finds Brahms buried on the grounds, looking a little worse for wear. But after a quick clean-up by his mother, Brahms is as good as new. However, it seems like there might be more to Brahms than weve been led to believe. Watch the Brahms: The Boy II trailer below to see what horrors come with the doll this time. Brahms: The Boy II Trailer The Boy gave us quite the shocking twist in the films climax. However, the grown Brahms who was secretly living in the walls of the Heelshire Mansion is nowhere to be seen…at least not yet. Will he have a role this time, or does the terror of this sequel come directly from the doll? The trailer would seem to indicate that Brahms has a history of death left in his wake that stretches even beyond what we saw in the first movie. But the last time Brahms seemed to be a possessed doll, it was all a trick. So what gives? No matter what evil might be at work here, that kid playing Jude is already creeping me the hell out. There are a couple of cheap jump scares in the trailer, but thats what The Boy felt like too, and that surprised me quite a bit. So maybe this movie has some tricks up its sleeve to catch us off guard all over again. Well soon have a full set visit report with many more details on the films plot, characters, and of course, the return of Brahms the doll. In the meantime, heres the official poster and synopsis: Unaware of the terrifying history of Heelshire Mansion, a young family moves into a guest house on the estate where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms. Katie Holmes stars in STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainments Brahms: The Boy II, alongside Christopher Convery ( Gotham) Owain Yeoman ( The Belko Experience) and Ralph Ineson ( The Witch.
