This is the Tear list in Nintendo Cup 2000 chio wrote.
It is based on the following Japanese version of the article.

I am writing the "Viable" species that need to be considered when building teams.
And, I am writing the "Gray zone of whether Viable or Unviable" species.

This Tear list was quoted in the smogon thread below.
I hope this Tier list (Viability ranking) will be updated by smogon players.

This ranking is old and does not apply the evasion move clause.
Furthermore, it assumes the mechanism of Gym Leader's Castle.
(Internationally, the Studium mechanism should be assumed)
When updating the ranking with smogon, the following considerations should be taken.
(If you review the evaluation of some species, you need to review the overall balance, but I don't mention that)

1 | Snorlax | It is definitely the strongest species in NC2000. Included in most teams. |
2 | Cloyster | I don't think it's as good as OU, but Spikes is strong even in NC2000. Among them, Cloyster is frequently used as Spiker. |
2 | Zapdos | At level 55, it is believed to be a match for Snorlax. It also plays many roles at level 50. |
4 | Venusaur | The strength is difficult to understand, but since the strength was known in 2012, Venusaur has continued to dominate the metagame. |
4 | Misdreavus | It is considered the most powerful Snorlax countermeasure. And the power to break the defensive team is also high. |
4 | Raikou | It is generally rated lower than Zapdos, but it is an important position to prevent Zapdos from growing too much in the metagame. |
7 | Machamp | Machamp is the only one who can consistently beat level 55 Snorlax at level 50. It shows its true value in battles with few switches. |
7 | Exeggutor | Exeggutor is definitely a strong species, but it is easy to be taken countermeasure and its evaluation is unstable. |
7 | Starmie | Rapid Spin is rarely used in NC2000. Instead, STAB Psychic and Reflect tend to come in handy. Strong when used with Snorlax. |
7 | Heracross | It is difficult to compete with some species, but it is used like Grass, which is strong against Misdreavus and Exeggutor. |
7 | Skarmory | It is used when you want to create a defensive team. Skarmory is used with Snorlax, Raikou, Tyranitar and/or Blissey. |
7 | Tyranitar | It is often used as a countermeasure for level 50 Self-Destruct and Explosion. It should be noted that it can only be used at level 55. |
13 | Alakazam | If you have level 55 with Encore, you can fight evenly or better with level 55 Zapdos. And it puts pressure on your opponent to switch to level 50 Snorlax. |
13 | Marowak | It became a boom in 2004 and 2012. Even NC2000 is a threat to defensive teams. It is often used in combination with PAR support. |
13 | Moltres | With Fire Blast, Sunny Day and Charcoal, you can even defeat Snorlax. It may not be strong in the OU as it is the species supported by an exquisite damage rate. |
13 | Umbreon | The combination of Mean Look, Baton Pass and Charm is often used. Since it is a format of 3 Pokémons, it is difficult to take countermeasures. |
13 | Steelix | It is also popular as Phazer in NC2000. It may also be used with Toxic instead of Curse. It is rarely used as a sweeper with Screech. |
13 | Miltank | In fact, Heal Bell is rarely used. Since the damage rate is exquisite in NC2000, it often attack with Curse. Rarely, attacking with Double Team + Rollout |
13 | Blissey | It should be noted that Present is very powerful at level 50, and OHKO is not uncommon. It is becoming mainstream to attack by using Sing and Quick Claw together. |
13 | Suicune | It is a very stable Water type species. It prefers less weaknesses than Starmie. Move set is almost the same as OU. |
21 | Charizard | It is mainstream to attack with Belly Drum like OU. Fire type Sweppers have a certain position in NC2000, and it is also important to be strong in mirror matches. |
21 | Golem | I think the usage in NC2000 is almost the same as usage in OU. It is used instead of Steelix when you want to be strong against Fire type moves. |
21 | Gengar | It is not very popular with NC2000 because it has many weaknesses compared to Misdreavus. However, it is evaluated for its aggressiveness and strongness against Heracross. |
21 | Kangaskhan | It has high statistics when used at level 55, it can handle move sets both aggressively and defensively. There are many patterns, so taking countermeasures are difficult. |
21 | Tauros | The most famous pattern is the one with Berserk Gene at level 55. It can OHKO many Pokemon with Hyper Beam, Double-Edge or Earthquake. |
21 | Meganium | Misdreavus, which is resistant to Toxic and also learns Sleep Powder, is more popular. However, there are times when Meganium, which has fewer weaknesses, is better suited. |
21 | Typhlosion | As a Fire type Sweppers, it has few weaknesses, has a sufficiently high Special Attack, and is easy to use. |
21 | Forretress | Rapid Spin is rarely used. It is highly evaluated that Curse + Explosion can be used as a countermeasure against Snorlax, as Spiker. |
21 | Porygon2 | It is highly evaluated for its durability in Special moves than Miltank. After all, it is the mainstream to attack with Curse. |
30 | Nidoking | Nidoking can't learn Lovely Kiss in Japanese version. However, you can easily beat level 55 Raikou teams by using Nidoking at level 55. |
30 | Muk | It is one of the excellent level 50 Exploders. And, when used at level 55, it is relatively strong for teams that do not use Machamp or Tyranitar who learned Earthquake. |
30 | Electrode | Electrode is preferred as Pseudo passers. The tactic of using Explosion after using Light Screen is powerful. Used with Charizard, Tauros and/or Marowak. |
30 | Weezing | Weezing is often compared to Muk as level 50 Exploders. The biggest strength is that you can make the first move to level 55 Marowak, when even used at level 50. |
30 | Electabuzz | Learning the Cross Chop is Electabuzz's greatest strength. Unlike Raikou, you don't need Spiker or Swagger to defeat Snorlax. |
30 | Jolteon | Jolteon doesn't learn Growth in Japanese version, but it's still a strong Baton passers. And, the move set that combines Charm and Sleep Talk can be strong for some teams. |
30 | Dragonite | Please note that it can only be used at level 55. Usually used as Mixed sweepers. The feature is that you can defeat Snorlax with a powerful Dynamic Punch. |
30 | Houndoom | Pursuits are very damaging and can even defeat Cloyster. It is also easy to use as a level 55 Fire type Sweppers. |
30 | Donphan | Please note that the Japanese version learns Encore. The combination of Encole and Curse is strong in the mirror match between Cursers. Donphan can also be a good Phazer. |
39 | Blastoise | Starmie is taken countermeasure by Forretress's Hidden Power Bug, so Blassoise is the best when viewed as a Spinner. Also, Sometimes used as a Mixed sweeper at level 55. |
39 | Tentacruel | As a Spinner, it is considered to be the best along with Blassoise. However, if anything, it has a strong impression as a level 55 Set-up sweepers. |
39 | Jynx | Occasionally, Grass type species can be used to prevent sleeper's threat (for example, Exeggutor who learned the Hidden Power Bug). Jynx is strong against such opponents. |
39 | Aerodactyl | Due to its unique type, it is strong against Tauros and Fire type Sweppers. Occasionally, these are species that have a strong presence in metagames. |
39 | Articuno | At level55, it is strong when used in combination with Ice Beem + Double Team + Substitute + Whirlwind + Leftovers. The strength that holds on the delicate damage rate. |
39 | Ampharos | It has the same strength as Electabuzz, and has the strength to defeat Snorlax with Dynamic Punch. But, there is a problem that Cloyster has first move against Ampharos. |
39 | Scizor | Scizor as Baton passers is often taken countermeasure. Rather, it has a strong impression as a level 55 Set-up sweepers, and may be strong against level 55 Snorlax teams. |
39 | Kingdra | Kingdra is often used as an alternative to Suicune. It is attractive because it is strong against Venusaur and Gengar. |
39 | Smeargle | Smeargle is very strong against species that don't have heavy damage moves like Misdreavus and Umbreon. Smeargle is used as a Baton Passer or Spiker. |
39 | Entei | The only problem is where it is vulnerable to Snorlax. Apart from that, it is no exaggeration to say that it is the strongest level 55 Fire type Sweppers. |
49 | Nidoqueen | Nidoqueen can support by Charm. The combination with Earth Quake + Thunder + Ice Beam + Leftovers at level 50 is powerful. |
49 | Clefable | There are powerful moves such as Encore + Counter, Belly Drum, Present, Minimize + Rollout. It is possible to support with abundant moves, and sometimes defeat the opponent. |
49 | Primeape | Other than Speed, it is inferior to Machamp in stat, especially low durability is painful, but you can beat opponent with Screech or Swagger. |
49 | Arcanine | It's a bit of a niche, both as a level 55 Fire Type Swepper and as a level 50 supporter. However, well-balanced high stats and ExtremeSpeed and Reflect keep the uniqueness. |
49 | Poliwrath | Level 55 BellyDrum is famous in Japan, but it is also powerful when used as level 50 Water that can defeat Snorlax. |
49 | Rhydon | If you check stats in detail, there is a side that is inferior to even Golem without Explosion. However, it is definitely powerful as a Counter user. |
49 | Mr.Mime | Basically, Alakazam is better, but Encore + Counter and Encore + Thunder Wave are Mr. Mime's privileges. |
49 | Scyther | This is one of the users of Sword Dance, but it is rare that is strong against Curse Snorlax and Curse Miltank, with Reversal + Black Belt. |
49 | Magmar | It is one of Fire Type Swepper. It is attractive to be able to stably defeat Snorlax and Tyranitar with Cross Chop. |
49 | Gyarados | It should usually use Zapdos instead of Gyarados, but there are occasions(e.g. vs Blissey) when the high damage of Hidden Power Flying can help. |
49 | Vaporeon | It is difficult to play an active part in Japan because there is no Growth, but Charm and Baton Pass can be a threat. |
49 | Kabutops | It has a niche role because it is strong against Explosion and Mono Fire Type Swepper. Please note that Rapid Spin Golem is banned in Japan. |
49 | Quagsire | Its unique typing, which has few weaknesses, has a niche role. Belly Drum is also important, which defeats Snorlax, Zapdos and others. |
49 | Gligar | Unique typing and Screech provide a niche role. It is one of the strongest Machamp checkers. |
49 | Shuckle | It is similar to Aerodactyl in that it is a checker for Snorlax and Tauros in various movesets. It differs in that it can be done at level 50 without Leftovers. |
49 | Pupitar | Level 53-55 Pupitar can have a niche role because of decent speed and Screech. And, Level 50 Pupitar's Earth Quake + Pursuit is valid for Gengar which does not have Ice Punch. |
65 | Pikachu | It is threaten uniqueness by Raikou and Electabuzz. |
65 | Raichu | It is threaten uniqueness by Raikou, Electabuzz and Jolteon. |
65 | Sandslash | It is threaten uniqueness by Marowak. |
65 | Golduck | It is threaten uniqueness by Kingdra and Poliwrath. |
65 | Victreebel | It is threaten uniqueness by Alakazam and Venusaur. |
65 | Magneton | It is threaten uniqueness by Reflect Raikou. |
65 | Dewgong | It is known that Encore is good at it. But it is not sure of viability because there is a lack of research. It is struggling to explain suitability as Sweeper and Supporter. |
65 | Hitmonlee | It is threaten uniqueness by Machamp and Primeape. |
65 | Hitmonchan | It is threaten uniqueness by Rapid Spin Blastoise. |
65 | Pinsir | It is threaten uniqueness by Marowak and Heracross. |
65 | Flareon | It is threaten uniqueness by Entei. |
65 | Feraligatr | It is threaten uniqueness by Machamp. |
65 | Crobat | It has uniqueness as Rapid Physical Sweeper (e.g. Level 55 Double-Edge / Hidden Power Ghost / Screech / Rest / Miracle Berry). However, it has ambiguous justification. |
65 | Jumpluff | It is threaten uniqueness by Exeggutor and Alakazam. |
65 | Espeon | It is threaten uniqueness by Alakazam and Charm Umbreon. |
65 | Piloswine | It is threaten uniqueness by Steelix and Donphan. |
81 | Venomoth | It is threaten uniqueness by Exeggutor, Jumpluff and Smeargle. |
81 | Dugtrio | It is threaten uniqueness by Marowak and Pursuit Pupitar. |
81 | Persian | It is threaten uniqueness by Tauros and Miltank. |
81 | Rapidash | It is threaten uniqueness by Typhlosion. |
81 | Slowbro | It is threaten uniqueness by Starmie. |
81 | Dodrio | It is threaten uniqueness by Tauros and Crobat. |
81 | Ghost | It is threaten uniqueness by combination of Misdreavus and Gengar. |
81 | Chansey | It is threaten uniqueness by Blissey. |
81 | Lapras | It is threaten uniqueness by Suicune, Starmie and Sing Blissey. |
81 | Omastar | It is threaten uniqueness by Vaporeon. |
81 | Lanturn | It is threaten uniqueness by Thunder / Thunderbolt Starmie. |
81 | Politoed | It is threaten uniqueness by Suicune and Poliwrath. |
81 | Slowking | It is threaten uniqueness by Starmie. |
81 | Girafarig | It is threaten uniqueness by Jolteon. |
81 | Qwilfish | It is threaten uniqueness by Cloyster and Tentacruel. |
81 | Ursaring | It is threaten uniqueness by Tauros and Kangaskhan. |
This ranking is old and does not apply the evasion move clause.
Furthermore, it assumes the mechanism of Gym Leader's Castle.
(Internationally, the Studium mechanism should be assumed)
When updating the ranking with smogon, the following considerations should be taken.
(If you review the evaluation of some species, you need to review the overall balance, but I don't mention that)
Species Name | Current Rank | Comment Date | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Misdreavus | A+ | 2021/05/08 | It occupies an important position as a counter measure against Snorlax. In 2021, the high potential as supporter with Confuse Ray/(Toxic or Zap Cannon)/Pain Split/(Perish Song or Screech)/(Leftovers or Miracle Berry) was shown, and possibility of reaching Rank S- came into view. |
Starmie | A | 2021/07/11 | Countermeasures for L55 Snorlax + L55 Fire Type Sweeper are issues, and Starmie is becoming more important as the answer. Reflect guarantees performance against Offensive Teams and can also be a part of countermeasure for Snorlax (combined with Pokemon like Machamp or with Toxic). Starmie is becoming a suitable Pokemon for Rank A+. |
Miltank | A- | 2021/04/20 | Double-Team is included in some movesets evaluated in Japan at both level50 and level55. This can be a debate about whether to drop to Rank B+. |
Blissey | A- | 2021/07/14 | Part of Blissey's strength comes from Present Gridge. The Studium mechanism loses this, so Blissey is less familiar with the team. Perhaps Rank B+ is reasonable. |
Charizard | B+ | 2021/04/24 | The importance of WA (Level 55 * 2 Pokemon) for Snorlax and Fire Type Swepper has increased since 2021. Charizard, which is strong against mirror matches, should be ranked higher, and Rank A- would be reasonable. |
Kangaskhan | B+ | 2021/04/20 | In Japan, Curse/Double-Team/Substitute/Rest/Leftovers moveset is highly evaluated. The reason why Kangaskhan is evaluated is that the moveset has a wide range, so if the width narrows, it should be lowered to Rank B. |
Donphan | B | 2021/05/03 | It relies much on the Japanese event move (Encore), and if it is banned, it will drop the rating. It may show suitability as a Phaser, but Rank C is probably reasonable. |
Articuno | B- | 2021/04/20 | Articuno struggles to claim uniqueness against Moltres and Charizard. level 55 Ice Beam/Double-Team/Substitute/Whirlwind/Leftovers is a moveset that can clearly claim uniqueness, but if this is not available, it should be lowered to Rank C. |
Gyarados | C+ | 2021/05/08 | Teams using Gyarados have historically had a poor win rate. Normally you should use Zapdos, Starmie, Suicune or Moltres instead. However, if you want to deal Marowak and Heracross with one Pokemon, Gyarados is a good choice. So, in terms of rank, Rank B- is probably the right species. |
Jumpluff | C | 2021/01/20 | It can deal with using Encore at a higher speed than Misdreavus. It is important that Grass with abundant support moves do this, and it is reasonable to raise it to Rank B-. |
Espeon | C | 2021/07/24 | After writing the rank, it was discovered that the moveset of level 52 Confusion/Substitute/Baton Pass/Morning Sun/Leftovers could be used to countermesure against Pursuit of level 50 Umbleon. Another moveset that deserves special mention is Psychic/Bite/Attract/Substitute/Leftovers(Female). This is a moveset that can't be done by Alakazam, who loses the ability to deal high damage to Psychic Types when use as Female, and afflicts teams that have adopted Attract Alakazam. This is a very niche usage, but it can't be ignored, and these facts are equivalent to Rank B-. |
Piloswine | C | 2021/03/14 | When run as a Phaser, it is clearly more aggressive than Steelix and Donphan. It is reasonable to raise it to Rank B-. |
Ninetales | D+ | 2021/07/11 | This species was extremely undervalued before May 2021, when it is discovered that Ninetales talent as Fire Type Sweeper. Fire Type Sweepers that can defeat Switch-in Snorlax are not uncommon, but Ninetales has an advantage against even Snorlax in face-on-face, with the Moveset of Flametrower/Confuse Ray/Attaract/Substitute/Leftovers. The problem with Ninetales stats is the low Special Attack, but this is covered by Confuse Ray. It should also consider only the few weaknesses of Typing. Ninetales are Species that should probably be located in Rank B+. |
Corsola | D+ | 2021/05/29 | L55 Corsola, a moveset of Hidden Power Rock/Curse/Amnesia/Recovery and Rollout/Defense Curl/Amnesia/Recovery, is considered to have a niche for L55 Snorlax + L50 Starmie. And Corsola, unlike Thunder Misdreavus, is not threatened by Pursuit. Considering these things, it cannot be said that it should be replaced with higher species, so it should be regarded as equivalent to Rank C+. |

生存可能性を持つか否かのグレーゾーンに位置するC+〜C-のポケモンについても記載しました。
また、このランクは国際ルールとの違いや最新の研究を反映していないため、それらの情報を追記しました。
I also mentioned from Rank C+ to C-species, which are located in the gray zone of viability or not.
Also, since this Tear rank does not reflect the differences between Japanese rule and International rule, and the latest research, I added that information.
