His local accent, the faux innocent appearance and the evil menace he evokes every time he indulges in a crime, makes his a chilling debut. But the characters can be stereotypical, especially the men. Almost all of them are shown to be misogynistic. Sunny’s character, for instance, has a troubled past. But with that Smart Alec air, it makes the background unconvincing. His penchant for breaking the fourth wall to address the audience is also jarring. Brutality of the abuse face by the children in Indian culture is really painful and needs a full stop. Film directly gives this message to the viewers which is very sensible and timely.

I went to watch this film with good expectations to watch a real suspense and complex story revolving around a serial killer. But it fails to impress me big time and never took that route of suspense and thriller. They introduced the killer in the introduction of the film. So there goes the thrill of knowing who was behind that. Then he make some outrageous moves which is very childish and has millions of plot holes. After the intermission it was only about Rani trying to catch the villain. So it converted to a same old Bollywood story. I would really recommend to watch Ratsasan to identify how far behind this film lags in term of quality plot. On anothe note Bollywood really focuses on hero or villain rather than the story but Kollywood really pushes the story to a whole new level. Rani Mukerji has been given a great heroine run by her husband Aditya. But it really downgrades their ability to focus on details of the story line. So it turns out another Dabaang instead of a classic thriller.

He's a cold-hearted, intelligent man, who looks harmless and he uses his wits as well as innocent looks to hide in plain sight, keeping an eye on the police in the process. It's a fine piece of writing and keeps you on your toes about the big reveal. Mardaani 2 flows like a police procedural in most parts and you can sympathise with the cops trying their hardest to solve the case as fast as they can as media pressure rises. While most support her, certain colleagues oppose her as well because she's a woman. In fact, that's the stance taken by the villain as well. He wants to teach her a lesson just because she's a successful woman. Director Puthran paints his characters in black and white, there are no grey areas. Though you realise that he's doing it to strike home a point. The film isn't just about rape but also how women as a whole are judged by the society. In an open chat with a hawkish TV anchor (Rajesh Sharma), Shivani lays bare as to how merely existing is a struggle for women. Their abilities are forever questioned by their male colleagues, they are constantly reminded to dress properly, to come home on time and never get a breathing space. Rapes happen because of the rape-culture being tolerated by the society and that needs to change. This long scene has Rani at her best. There's no acting involved as she's speaking from the heart. The climax scene, where she gets violent, too will shake you up for sure. Mardaani 2 is Rani Mukerji 's show all the way and she lives and breathes her character. The film tends to stereotype its male characters, portraying almost all of them as misogynistic and insensitive towards the plight of women. However, it’s the conviction in the performances and a gripping narrative that ensure there’s never a dull moment in Mardaani 2. Yes, it is a brutal story that’s sometimes hard to stomach, but it needs to be told. And none better than Rani in a khakee to lead the show.
