Im a bit confused as to how I can get access to Ultra HD tracks on the Amazon playlist through my 7011 using the HEOS app. I only seem to be able to play tracks by using Bluetooth using Airplay, accessed from the Amazon Music app on my iPad, which is of course limited to a lower 24/48 resolution. I rang Denon customer service this morning and they told me that at present you cant use the HEOS app to play Ultra HD tracks through the Marantz because Amazon havent provided that facility to Denon as yet. Denon told me that I would have to purchase one of the HEOS speaker range to do that (I understand Bluos are an alternative. Any advice would be gratefully received! They're talking nonsense. You can only access Amazon HD via the Heos app for your AVR. It plays on my marantz fine and has so since day your settings on Heos app. #93 Yep that is nonsence, whoever it was at Denon who told you that obviously doesn't understand their own software. #94 have you logged into your Amazon account Well, it turns out that the woman at Denon I spoke to yesterday morning was indeed misinformed. I rang Denon again yesterday afternoon and spoke to a guy in the tech department. We went through all my settings in the HEOS app which were exactly as they should be with up to date software, etc. Checked my Amazon account also which was OK also with all settings correct, and checked I was logged in - I was. After all that, I was still getting the error message I posted above. Then tried deleting my Amazon and HEOS apps and logging them back in. Error message still there. Checked the ‘Music page on HEOS and logged into Spotify - worked fine on my Marantz. Clicked on ‘TUNE IN also and was able to play all the radio stations listed with no problem. Clicked on the Amazon Music tab - the error message appeared. In conclusion though, I CAN play Amazon Music HD through my Marantz, and its playing through the HEOS app (checked it when a track was playing from the Amazon app. However I keep getting the error message ‘HEOS account server is not available‘ - dont really know whats going on there. And my Marantz will only play Amazon Music HD via Airplay. #95 How much of this "hi-res music" was actually authored at above 44. 1/16 and is not just padded 0s? If you look at the hi-res standard, there are no requirements for the production chain as long as the end container is something like 24/96. But that may very well be a padded 0s 44. 1/16 quality studio recording. And let's not go to why pretty much nobody needs better than 44. 1/16 playback as far as fidelity goes... #96 [ QUOTE agreed. and if I could get 44. 1/16 playback on Chromecast I'd be very happy! 97 I have just tried a blind test with my mobile setup (Motorola G6 and Sennheiser HD 2. 30) and couldn't tell which was Ultra HD and which was standard MP3. I guess I would need something more high end (or maybe a USB DAC) to notice a difference. As I have Chromecast kit at home I won't be able to listen to Ultra HD there. In conclusion, I don't think I will bother subscribing after my free month. Last edited: Nov 13, 2019 #98 Not sure what the Sonos connect is playing at, but in all honesty it sounds crap. To be fair it is going direct from the Sonos into a Maramtz PM7300, no DAC, but it sounds very flat, no air at all, sound is just sat there between the speakers, and some of the tracks with a lot going on sound congested and a bit sharp. Playing the same tracks on Tidal through the same unit sound so much better. Playing the same tidal track through a Raspberry Pi with a Meridian Explorer 2 dac attached to it sound infinitely better than the Sonos as well. I know the sonos is pants, so grabbed it and plugged it into the Arcam in the other room, digital connection, and still the same, Amazon sounds pants, Tidal sounds great. So what can I use? What does the chromcast play at res wise? If there is an android app, hopefully someone is working on a build for the Raspberry Pi, that would be nice. #99 I've spent some hours myself A/B testing various resolution audio files a few years ago. I tested crunching down the bit depth down from 24 to 16, 12, 8. 8 bit represents the music better than you might think but is awful, 12 bit is actually almost perfect and 16 bit is perfect to the ear. 24 bit you can't hear a difference doing an instant A/B comparison. I did a similar test with reducing the sample rates from 96 to 44 to 22 to 11khz and 44khz is enough to reproduce the frequencies we can hear perfectly. You can read about one test I did here: FLAC or mp3, which download format? The engineers knew what they were doing with the 16/44 CD quality. My conclusion is that Amazon downloads and anything mp3 320 or better will sound perfect. The testing itself was fun but time consuming and exhausting! Knowing the result has saved me lots of time and money though! I still prefer FLAC for the gapless playback though and I wish Amazon would offer FLAC download. The reason I didn't buy Sonos is their lack of support for hi-res. So there may be some down-sampling going wrong somewhere in there. There is no point trying to play high resolution audio on a Sonos anyway. Unless they did add support retrospectively and I don't know about it but AFAIK it's baked into their hardware format. That said, having got equipment that does support hi-res music I found I can't hear the difference of anything above CD quality so you could say Sonos made the right choice not supporting it. Last edited: Nov 14, 2019 #100 I was comparing with Lossless not hi res. #101 I've spent some hours myself A/B testing various resolution audio files and I can't honestly hear the difference above mp3 320. Knowing this has saved me lots of time and money. You can read about it here: FLAC or mp3, which download format? I still prefer FLAC for the gapless playback though. With my KEF LSX speakers & Hiby R5 DAP with Shure SE846's I could hear the greater resolution/clarity of Amazon HD Ultra & Tidal MQA tracks compared to Spotify of the same Album. Couldn't tell any difference between Tidal MQA and say a 24/96 Amazon HD. Its not "night & day" difference but it is there. You need to be listening for it clinically. Your not going to enjoy your music any less if using Spotify IMO. #102 Still possibly a re-sampling problem. #103 I have been doing some digging, seems Sonos is playing all Amazon stuff at 320kbps. #104 I like a lot of the 80s stuff, Echo and the Bunnymen, Talking Heads, Talk Talk, Big Supreme, Tears For Fears etc. That is where Spotify really shows itself up. A lot of that stuff was pretty sharp recording wise anyway, the difference between Tidal and Spotify with that lot can be the difference between bearable and unbearable to listen to. Even my wife can tell the difference when we are playing it in the car, Spotify can sound nasty. #105 Your not going to enjoy your music any less if using Spotify IMO. Interesting statement and yes I do agree with you when listening to music under common circumstances like in the car or travelling with mobile and headphones or Alexa Echo dot radio and every other normal day to day listening scenarios. However, I notice a huge increase in quality when listening to Tidal MQA compared to Spotify when listening on my system in my dedicated room. I'm talking rising hairs on arms. Spotify doesn't give me this emotion but unfortunately neither does Amazon HD as it just can't produce what it's claiming to. If USB Audio Payer Pro can support it with my Audioquest Red DAC I'll be happy #106 Well I also have a dedicated gaming/music room with decent KEF LSX & KEF 8b Sub which can resolve 24/96 (plus 24/192 downconverter) but I also have it connected 3. 5mm phono from my PC's 24/192 sound and I can also get the "rising hairs on arms" even with some Spotify tracks. Listen to Rey's Theme by Anne-Sophie Mutter, The Recording Arts of Los Angeles & John Williams on Tidal MQA, Amazon 24/96 and Spotify Max as a comparrison. You can tell the most between the Likes of Tidal & Spotify when using a decent DAP with a bit perfect player like UAPP and sensitive ear/headphones (SE846 in my case. On a PC Amazon HD plays perfectly even with 24/192 tracks. If you have a Hiby R5 DAP that will also do Amazon HD at track quality level not resampling like many Android devices do. Maybe your system doesn't do well with lower bitrate stuff. Some kit really can highlight weaknesses. #107 It's interesting reading this as I've been really struggling to tell the difference between Spotify and Deezer HiFi on either my phone over AptX HD to some Sony WF1000XM3s or on my main HiFi over Sonos Connect (where is not clear what quality is putting out) from my PC over HDMI, or over DTS PlayFi (which I've not found very nice to use at all, really clumsy. I am planning on checking out Tidal as well, probably this weekend, to see if that's any different. #108 My kits not to welshy standard but for my tiny 2. 4 x 2m room the 999 KEF LSX Active Speakers with 400 KEF Kube 8b active sub is rather potent and for the room size every bit as good as the KEF LS50 Wireless IMO. As for mobile, Shure SE846's with Sony ZX300 or Hiby R5 are considered high-mid end too so not down to poor kit. Could be some peoples hearing is just more critical/resolving. I do have perfect hearing for my age. The WF1000XM3s are great for noise cancelling but not really the best for clinical listening of musical excellence (had a short trial & went back. Try something like the Sen HD660S upwards and you should notice. I did have the Sen HD800 for a while but just too clinical and I actually prefer the SE846 IEM's to all headphones I've tried (though HD800 most expensive/high-

The film stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman, with Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch in supporting roles. It is based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes, 6] and chronicles the story of two young British soldiers during World War I who are tasked with delivering a message calling off an attack doomed to fail soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich in 1917. This message is especially important to one of the young soldiers as his brother is taking part in the pending attack. The project was officially announced in June 2018, with MacKay and Chapman signing on in October and the rest of the cast the following March. Filming took place from April to June 2019 in England and Scotland, with cinematographer Roger Deakins and editor Lee Smith using long takes to have the entire film appear as one continuous shot. 1917 premiered in the UK on 4 December 2019 and was theatrically released in the United States on 25 December 2019 by Universal Pictures, and in the United Kingdom on 10 January 2020 by eOne. The film received praise for Mendes's direction, the performances, cinematography, musical score, editing, sound effects, and realism. Among its various accolades, the film received ten nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. The film won Best Motion Picture ? Drama and Best Director at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, and it has received nine nominations at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards. It also won the Producers Guild of America Award for Best Theatrical Motion Picture. Plot [ edit] On 6 April 1917, aerial reconnaissance has observed that the German army, which has pulled back from a sector of the Western Front in northern France, is not in retreat but has made a tactical withdrawal to the new Hindenburg Line, where they are waiting to overwhelm the British with artillery. In the British trenches, with field telephone lines cut, two young British soldiers, Lance Corporals Will Schofield and Tom Blake, are ordered by General Erinmore to carry a message to Colonel Mackenzie of the Second Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment, calling off a scheduled attack that would jeopardise the lives of 1, 600 men, including Blake's brother Lieutenant Joseph Blake. Schofield and Blake cross no man's land to reach the abandoned German trenches. In an underground barracks, they discover a booby-trap tripwire. This is triggered by a rat, and the explosion almost kills Schofield, but Blake saves him, and the two escape. They arrive at an abandoned farmhouse, where they witness a German plane being shot down in flames. Schofield and Blake drag the injured pilot from the plane. Schofield proposes a mercy kill, but Blake insists they help him. The pilot stabs Blake and is shot dead by Schofield. Schofield comforts Blake as he dies, promising to complete the mission and to write to Blake's mother. Schofield is then picked up by a passing British unit. A destroyed canal bridge near the bombed village of Écoust-Saint-Mein prevents the British lorries from crossing. Schofield chooses to cross alone, and comes under fire from a German sniper. He tracks down and kills the sniper, only to be knocked out by a ricocheting bullet. He regains consciousness and proceeds. Under fire, Schofield stumbles into the hiding place of a French woman with an infant. She treats his wounds and he sings the infant a song, giving the woman his canned food and milk from the farm. Continuing, Schofield is shot at as flares light up the night sky. He meets more German soldiers, strangling one and pushing past another who is inebriated. Other soldiers give chase, but he escapes by jumping into a river. He is swept over a waterfall before reaching the riverbank in the morning. In the forest, he finds D Company of the 2nd Devons, which is in the last wave of the attack. As the company starts to move through the trenches to the front, Schofield tries to reach Colonel Mackenzie. Realising that the trenches are too crowded for him to make it to Mackenzie in time, Schofield sprints across the battlefield, just as the infantry begin their charge into the German bombardment. He forces his way into meeting Mackenzie, who reads the letter and reluctantly calls off the attack. Schofield is told that Joseph was among the first wave, and searches for him among the wounded, finding him unscathed. Joseph is upset to hear of his brother's death, but thanks Schofield for his efforts. Schofield gives Joseph his brother's rings and dog tag, and asks to write to their mother about Blake's heroics, to which Joseph agrees. Schofield then sits under a nearby tree, looking at photographs of his two young daughters and his wife. Cast [ edit] Production [ edit] Development and casting [ edit] Amblin Partners and New Republic Pictures were announced to have acquired the project in June 2018, with Sam Mendes directing, and co-writing the screenplay alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns. [7] Tom Holland was reported to be in talks for the film in September 2018, though ultimately was not involved, 8] and in October, Roger Deakins was set to reunite with Mendes as cinematographer. [9] George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman entered negotiations to star the same month. [10] Thomas Newman was hired to compose the score in March 2019. [11] The same month, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Claire Duburcq joined the cast in supporting roles. [12] Writing [ edit] In August 2019, Mendes stated, It's the story of a messenger who has a message to carry. And that's all I can say. It lodged with me as a child, this story or this fragment and obviously I've enlarged it significantly. But it has that at its core. 13] In Time in 2020, Mendes stated that the writing involved some risk-taking: I took a calculated gamble, and I'm pleased I did because of the energy you get just from driving forward (in the narrative) in a war that was fundamentally about paralysis and stasis. The ideas for a script, which Mendes wrote with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, came from the story that Mendes's grandfather, Alfred Mendes, a native of Trinidad who was a messenger for the British on the Western Front, had told him. [14] Filming [ edit] Roger Deakins was cinematographer for the film, reuniting with Mendes for their fourth collaboration, having first worked together on Jarhead in 2005. [14] Filming was accomplished with long takes and elaborately choreographed moving camera shots to give the effect of one continuous take. [15] 16] Time reported, The camera stays with the two lance corporals from the film's first frame to its last, as if unfolding in one long take, much like the technique used by Alejandro González Iñárritu in his 2015 Best Picture winner Birdman. The aim is to immerse the viewer in a propulsive, at times headlong journey that travels like a lit fuse. 17] Filming began on 1 April 2019 and continued through June 2019 in Wiltshire, Hankley Common in Surrey and Govan, Scotland, as well as at Shepperton Studios. [18] 19] 20] 21] Concern was raised over the planned filming on Salisbury Plain by conservationists who felt the production could disturb potentially undiscovered remains, requesting a survey before any set construction began. [22] 23] Some shots required the use of as many as 500 background extras. [2] Sections of the film were also shot near Low Force, on the River Tees, Teesdale in June 2019. The production staff had to install signs warning walkers in the area not to be alarmed at the prosthetic bodies strewn around the site. [24] Release [ edit] The film premiered on 4 December 2019 at the 2019 Royal Film Performance. [25] The film began a limited release in the United States and Canada on 25 December 2019 in eleven venues. This made it eligible for 2020 awards, including the 77th Golden Globes, held on 5 January 2020, where the film won both the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Motion Picture and Best Director for Mendes. Reception [ edit] Box office [ edit] As of 2?February?2020, 1917 has grossed 119. 2 million in the United States and Canada and 129. 8 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of 249 million. [4] 5] In the US, the film made 251, 000 from 11 venues on its first day of limited release. [26] It went on to have a limited opening weekend of 570, 000, and a five-day gross of 1 million, for an average of 91, 636 per-venue. Estimates of greenhouse gas emissions, quantified at fine space and time scales, has become a critical component of new multi-constraint flux information systems in addition to providing relevant information to decisionmakers when considering GHG mitigation opportunities. The Vulcan Project is an effort to estimate bottom-up fossil fuel emissions and CO 2 emissions from cement production (FFCO 2) for the entire United States landscape at space and time scales that satisfy both scientific and policy needs. Here, we report on version 3. 0 of the Vulcan emissions which quantifies FFCO 2 emissions for the U. S. at a spatial resolution of 1?km?×?1?km and hourly temporal resolution for the 2010?2015 time period. We provide a complete description of the updated methods, data sources, results, and comparison to a global gridded FFCO 2 data product. We estimate FFCO 2 emissions for the year 2011 of 1589. 3?TgC with a 95% confidence interval of 1299/1917?TgC ( 18. 3% −20. 6. implying a one-sigma uncertainty of ~10. We find that per capita FFCO 2 emissions are larger in states dominated by the electricity production and industrial sectors and smaller in states dominated by onroad and residential/commercial building emissions. The center of mass (CoM) of FFCO 2 emissions in the US are located in the state of Missouri with mean seasonality that moves on a NE/SW near-elliptical path. Comparison to ODIAC, a global gridded FFCO 2 emissions estimate shows large differences in both total emissions (100. 1?TgC for year 2011) and spatial patterns. The spatial correlation (R 2) between the two data products was 0. 38 and the mean absolute difference at the individual gridcell scale was 80. 04. The Vulcan v3. 0 FFCO 2 emissions data product offers an immediate high-resolution estimate of emissions in every city within the U. S., providing a large potential savings of time and effort for cities planning to develop self-reported city inventories. 0 annual gridded emissions data product can be downloaded from the data repository at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
