Unfortunately most men in Indian culture aren’t self sufficient.. mainly as they stay at home. Ones who lived or worked or traveled abroad do! Ohhh I just remembered watch “The Little Things” the male character Dhruv is supportive and sweet and reminds me of many men I know. level 2 I think I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with you. A lot of Indian men learn to handle their own stuff by staying in college hostels, flats, paying guest houses, boarding schools, etc. Lot of my friends staying in India as well as abroad are good at handling themselves and doing these things. They might not be great at these tasks but still they do a decent job. I'm not saying that ALL Indian men are self-sufficient like this, but most "urban" ones are. Now whether they take the initiative to help their wives, that's a different topic. level 1 Haven't seen the film but going by ur description, yes, 3 of my cousins are married to them, almost all brothers (first cousins)are like that. level 1 My dad does all these when my mom isn't home or isn't well level 1 A good chunk of them are unsupportive as hell, usually because they've never been held accountable for their actions. I was constantly harangued by my parents to learn how to cook otherwise "how will I live at my in-laws' house". On the other hand, I have had a male friend, a good 5-6 years older to me who hadn't cleaned his house's bathroom or kitchen in a year, just because. He is more organised and better at household chores than me and enjoys doing them as well. We both work and divide the meals to be cooked between us. As someone else pointed out, studying/living in countries outside India or even away from home in other cities lets men (even women) develop self-sufficiency. I think reason my husband is hands on is cos he went to the US to study and work so from the age to 17-30 was there which made him independent unlike other Punjabi boys. But I know a lot of men who have been abroad but still very chauvinistic or regressive. level 1 My dad. My mom used to work a bit far from our home so she had about 1. 5 - 2 hours of travel one side. So she will leave home early and reach home late. My dad used to feed me, play with me, got me ready and sent me to school.. Then he used to go to work and in the evening, he will wash my uniform, feed me snacks & tea.. This was a normal day.. He used to help around in kitchen during weekends too.. He used to help wash dishes when mom was not well.. Growing up like that, this is all normal for me. So it's normal to do all these chores around home for me and I see people are really surprised.. I wonder how surprised others would have been 25 years ago when my dad used to do it..
