Excellent! Judy Garland is really great and Minelli is definitively an elegant and great director. Obviously all the picture was filmed on the studio (they are some outside set painting you can see through the windows of the family home but who care's ? The picture is shared in 4 acts (that's more and more rare todays, every blockbuster is sliced in 3 acts like Bambi) and the cast is excellent. M.M.I.S.L looks like a colored and musical remake of Orson Welles'Samson. Is that correct ?

And when the maestro gives them a beat, it's a. I just want to mention that this beautiful love story was written by Arthur Laurents, a gay man. It was scored by Leonard Bernstein, a gay man. The lyrics were written by Steven Sondheim, a gay man. The director of the original stage production, who also won an Oscar for co-directing the film, was Jerome Robbins, yes. a gay man. Love wins, and some gay dudes are really effing talented.

Debbie Reynolds represents a fantastic closing chapter to the Golden Age of Hollywood and its musicals. From her origins as a show business ingenue in 1950, she successfully transitioned from the Silver Screen to television in the 1960s. Throughout the challenges of her personal life, she was the consummate professional throughout and carried the utmost stoicism. She always remained relevant and contemporary with a following that includes her original fan base from Singin' in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown all the way up to Millennials with roles in Mother, Will and Grace, and Behind the Candelabra. She also was one of Classic Hollywood's greatest ambassadors in preserving its legacy with an enormous collection of memorabilia that would have otherwise been lost. While her passing and that of her daughter, the great Carrie Fisher, leave us culturally diminished, they leave a wonderful legacy, including this wonderful number.

What a voice. This great, witty number was originally conceived on the stage quite differently from this version. It is traditionally performed by the girls only, but Sondheim re-imagined and re-wrote the song for the movie as a musical argument between the boys and the girls. Both versions are wonderful but I have to say I prefer the screen performance. So clever and much more energy.
