http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/europe/08/07/uk.riot...

The violence first erupted Saturday night in Tottenham, a gritty north London neighborhood, after the fatal shooting of a black resident by police investigating gun crimes. Those riots triggered a ripple effect among disenfranchised youths in other parts of the city Sunday, and the unrest increased in size and intensity Monday.・・・
 Officials said they had detained 215 people and charged 25.・・・
 A group of rioters attacked a cluster of shops in Birmingham, Britain’s second-largest city.

<May_Roma>(同上)

<太田>

 You have a generation of kids now that don't respect their parents or the police
 There's nothing to do at all. University fees have gone up, education costs money. And there's no jobs. ・・・
 ・・・mixture of alienation, anger at the police, boredom and mischief・・・They just want to be heard,・・・
 Were cuts in services a factor? "Course they are. They cut our youth project by 75%. We used to work with gangs, run a workshop that brought police and young people together. Gone.
 I can understand why people would riot in Tottenham but here? I just thought it was a chance for them to cause havoc. It's just an excuse
 ・・・a lot of young boys, they are constantly harassed and stop and searched. The people, not just young people, they don't like the police. They don't get along with the police. They say the police are no good. They feel like they don't help them. So what was happening, they were just trying to give the police the runaround. Just to piss them off.・・・
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/09/london-ri...
In the broadest sense, most of those involved have been young men from poor areas. But the generalisation cannot go much further than that. It can't be said that they are largely from one racial group. ・・・
 In some senses the rioting has been unifying a cross-section of deprived young men who identify with each other・・・.
 ・・・territorial markers which would usually delineate young people's residential areas -- known as 'endz', 'bits' and 'gates' -- appear to have melted away.
 "On a normal day it wouldn't be allowed -- going in to someone else's area. A lot of them, on a normal day, wouldn't know each other and they might be fighting," ・・・
 "Now they can go wherever they want. They're recognising themselves from the people they see on the TV [rioting]. This is bringing them together."

With police numbers stretched beyond anything experienced in living memory, another source said commanders had to make tough choices. "Sometimes you will let offences take place because you can't afford to lose two to three officers for every arrest. The priority is not to protect property but to protect life. There will be no order to be soft."・・・
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/09/london-ri...
 ・・・ if this is the Amadou Diallo moment for Blighty, then why are minorities and the working class the principal victims of "socially excluded" aggression?
 In North London, Kurdish and Turkish shopkeepers have teamed up to form "local protection units" to patrol the streets and prevent the violence and looting that have plainly overwhelmed the authorities.
 Socially excluded these rioters may be, but that hardly justifies a BlackBerry-coordinated assault on commercial and residential property. Take it from Egyptian protestor Mosa'ab Elshamy: "Egyptians and Tunisians took revenge for Khaled Said and Bouazizi by peacefully toppling their murdering regimes, not stealing DVD players."

 ・・・there is a similarity between this week's looting and the football violence・・・It's an excitement. You can't take away that thrill - the roar of the crowd. That sense of a group of men, something's happening.・・・

It’s not all about race. But it is about rich and poor.”
 Yet most of the austerity measures -- which the government would now be challenged to complete -- have yet to come into effect, leading some to question whether they truly played a role. And just as many voices blamed a weak police response and a breakdown of family values years in the making for giving rise to a class of directionless youths.
 Whatever the reason, the riots have exposed a desperate youth culture buried inside British society, with people linked to one another as never before through text messaging and social networking sites.
 The violence in Britain has differed from the kind of politically charged protests seen recently in Greece and Spain in response to hard economic times. In Britain, the rage has appeared blind, apolitical and profoundly selfish. Looters set alight a historic department store, a Sony distribution center and tiny, family-owned groceries. They have burned the bikes of poor residents and the cars of richer ones. One gang of masked thugs burst into a fashionable Notting Hill eatery to rob diners, clashing with restaurant workers wielding rolling pins. Others rioters simply fought one another.

 ・・・the richest 10% are now 100 times better off than the poorest, where consumerism predicated on personal debt has been pushed for years as the solution to a faltering economy, and where, according to the OECD, social mobility is worse than any other developed country.・・・
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/...
There is a notion that the criminality is the product of poverty or government spending cuts. That's false. The British government is spending as much as it ever has in history, and the poor in Britain have access to a social safety net that is remarkably generous by any standard. Then, too, the sort of people who torch cars and smash plate-glass windows to get at the jewelry and televisions inside are not, we suspect, highly correlated with those most put out by the reduced hours at the local library.

At least hope was found in the heartening acts of volunteers who went out in the daylight and cleaned up. This prompted comments about the spirit of London, an ideal that was famously exemplified during the Blitz when the city stuck together despite adversity and attack. Sadly, an ideal of unity is harder to maintain when attack comes from within.

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2011/08/10/r...

 ・・・nobody really knows why.
 Scan the comment pages of the British press, and you will find a wide range of explanations. ・・・
 And yet it is their lack of politics that most clearly defines them.・・・
 ・・・there is a time-honored tradition of smashing things for fun in Britain, and the groups that enjoy it have been around for a long time.・・・
 ・・・there was looting in London following the Great Fire of 1666, and, despite the mythology, there was looting in London during the wartime Blitz. Go back and read Dickens: Criminals, both immigrant and "native" British, have taken advantage of opportunities to loot in London during more peaceful times, too. ・・・
 We don't know whether we have just witnessed a "new" phenomenon, or a more mobile and technically adept version of a very old one.・・・
http://www.slate.com/id/2301233/

http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/9537393c-c29b-11e0-...

 ・・・some commentators saw it that the root causes of the disorders lay in social deprivation and despair. But・・・One surprise was the presence among the riot suspects lined up in police wagons outside courthouses in London and other cities of young men and women with regular jobs. ・・・
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/11/world/europe/11b...

The British elite has systematically compromised itself in recent years. They claimed to be a role model, or at least trustworthy. In the economic crisis the financial establishment declared bankruptcy, and British politicians became mired in the expenses scandal of 2009. Then this year the media and politicians have been damaged by the Murdoch scandal. When the country's elites don't take the law seriously, why should we? No question is more dangerous for a society.・・・
http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,...

It was the same when riots erupted in London and Liverpool 30 years ago, also triggered by confrontation between the police and black community, when another Conservative government was driving through cuts during a recession. The people of Brixton and Toxteth were denounced as criminals and thugs, but within weeks Michael Heseltine was writing a private memo to the cabinet, beginning with "it took a riot", and setting out the urgent necessity to take action over urban deprivation.
 This time, the multi-ethnic unrest has spread far further and faster. It's been less politicised and there's been far more looting, to the point where in many areas grabbing "free stuff" has been the main action. But there's no mystery as to where the upheaval came from. It was triggered by the police killing a young black man in a country where black people are 26 times more likely to be stopped and searched by police than their white counterparts. The riot that exploded in Tottenham in response at the weekend took place in an area with the highest unemployment in London, whose youth clubs have been closed to meet a 75% cut in its youth services budget.
 It then erupted across what is now by some measures the most unequal city<(=London)> in the developed world, where the wealth of the richest 10% has risen to 273 times that of the poorest,
 Politicians and media talking heads counter that none of that has anything to do with sociopathic teenagers smashing shop windows to walk off with plasma TVs and trainers. But where exactly did the rioters get the idea that there is no higher value than acquiring individual wealth, or that branded goods are the route to identity and self-respect?
 While bankers have publicly looted the country's wealth and got away with it, it's not hard to see why those who are locked out of the gravy train might think they were entitled to help themselves to a mobile phon. Some of the rioters make the connection explicitly. "The politicians say that we loot and rob, they are the original gangsters," one told a reporter. Another explained to the BBC: "We're showing the rich people we can do what we want."・・・
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/aug/1...

Britain has long been well known for having an unarmed police force. Is that still the case?
 Yes, but there are an increasing number of exceptions. ・・・
 Between 1900 and 2006, only 67 British police officers were killed by firearms, excluding Northern Ireland. ・・・
 In 2009, the CO19 began the unprecedented practice of conducting armed patrols in the Brixton, Haringey, and Tottenham neighborhoods, in response to an increase in violent crime in those areas.・・・
 The program was controversial ever since it was announced -- including within the police department. And, with Duggan have been shot during one of these patrols, the act that triggered the ongoing riots, it's likely to become even more so.

<κζκζ>

<κζζκ>

<太田>

<ζκζκ>

<ζζκκ>

<太田>

http://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%A4%E3%82%AE%...

<太田>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKeaDm_RmFc

<太田>

 The reason for this is clear: The young unemployed Britons not only have the wrong attitude to work, for example regarding fixed hours as a form of oppression, but they are also dramatically badly educated.

The marauding bands that set London alight and shut down town centers across Britain were made up, unprecedentedly, of often very young teenagers. This has not been an uprising of the dispossessed, the unemployed, or particular ethnic groups, but a violent convulsion of kids on holiday from high school. According to the Metropolitan Police, just under two thirds of those arrested on the second day of the London disturbances were teenagers. Many were 13, 14, 15 years of age.・・・

 But few of these changes have yet taken effect, let alone had time for their impact to really hurt. The exception is youth services.

The events which unfolded on the streets of London and other English cities last week were brutal and full of an enthusiasm to inflict the greatest possible damage, even on mere passers-by who had the bad luck to get in the way.

<21century_po>(ツイッターより)

<太田>

<太田>

The prime minister demanded that "a clear signal" be sent out as he supported one of the most contentious sentences, the four years to be served by two young men who created Facebook pages inciting riots that no one came to. Voters approve. In a Manchester Evening News poll, 88% thought the judges were getting it right.
 The punitive sentences of the past week are out of proportion to the offences committed. Nor are they likely to be effective. They challenge our idea of justice. They risk aggravating the very sense of disengagement that contributed to the unforgivable events of two weeks ago.・・・

#4953(2011.8.26)

Something has gone horribly wrong in Britain," wrote Peter Oborne, the chief political commentator for the Daily Telegraph, one of Britain's most conservative newspapers. "The culture of greed and impunity we are witnessing on our TV screens stretches right up into corporate boardrooms and the Cabinet.... It is not just its damaged youth but Britain itself that needs a moral reformation."・・・
 In a speech last week, Prime Minister David Cameron <said> "In the highest offices, the plushest boardrooms, the most influential jobs, we need to think about the example we are setting.... In the banking crisis, with MPs' expenses, in the phone hacking scandal, we have seen some of the worst cases of greed, irresponsibility and entitlement.・・・The restoration of responsibility has to cut right across our society,・・・Because whatever the arguments, we all belong to the same society, and we all have a stake in making it better."

For 25 years, Scottish nationalism has been a civic, social-democratic, multicultural movement. Nationalists have opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they opposed Trident. They have openly campaigned for more immigration. The SNP proudly asserts the multicultural nature of modern Scotland with its MSPs taking the parliamentary oath in Urdu, Gaelic, Italian and English. Nationalists promote and engage with the EU. They advocate sustainable energy, land reform, arts funding… the list goes on.
  Britain has been torn up by successive Westminster governments that have pandered with increasing desperation to a middle England that seems determined to live in a low-tax, high-inequality, American-style future. I don't want to live in America. I don't want to live in Thatcherland.・・・
     -------------------------------------------------
The thing is, the Scots never fell for Thatcherism. We were always sceptical. When she announced that there was no such thing as society, most of us were, frankly, incredulous. Thatcherism, and the enthusiasm with which it was embraced by so many in England, made a lot of Scots begin to realise that we were, after all, meaningfully different en masse from the English; more communitarian, less convinced of the primacy of competition over co-operation. There was no one nation.・・・
http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2011/aug/28/scot...
