Awwe great another movie where someone is saving someone. Imma watch it ??. | Odie Henderson February 28, 2020 Noir is full of characters doing unreasonable, unwise or just downright stupid things to achieve some untenable goal. Their choices are criminal, driven by the basest instincts and are often wrapped in a delightful, hardboiled amorality. The plot situations escalate, tightening the screws as the antiheroes become more and more desperate. These people inhabit a bitter little world where there are no happy endings. Everybody has a fatal flaw and doing the right thing never crosses anyone¡Çs mind. The self-described ¡ÈSouthern Gothic neo-noir¡É ¡ÈBlood on Her Name¡É attempts to tweak some of the aforementioned qualities of noir by saddling its protagonist with a conscience. It¡Çs a bad decision that might have worked had co-writer and director Matthew Pope structured the film differently. What starts out as an intriguing cover-up of a murder becomes more and more hopelessly convoluted by the film¡Çs insistence on delivering its information to you in drips and drabs. Allowing the viewer to piece things together on their own is always welcome, but the film¡Çs desire to surprise and outwit makes it contrived. Advertisement Leigh ( Bethany Anne Lind) is beholden to doing right by folks, whether it¡Çs her juvenile delinquent son, Ryan ( Jared Ivers) or the family of a man whose murder she may have committed in self-defense. Not that she¡Çs a saint?at times, she lashes out unfairly in anger and she¡Çs on some kind of pills whose dose, according to her dealer, depends on how much she wants to forget. She¡Çs also the ex of a convicted felon whose arrest had something to do with turning her place of business into a chop shop. Those illegal activities come back to haunt her immediately after fade-in. Aided by the moody and atmospheric color cinematography by Matthew Rogers, ¡ÈBlood on Her Name¡É opens with a riveting post-murder sequence. The victim lays in a huge puddle of congealed blood on the floor of an auto garage, a bloodied wrench near his body. We hear Leigh¡Çs terrified, labored breathing on the soundtrack before we see her huddled in a corner. The pacing is very good here, allowing us to watch as Leigh considers the best course of action. She wraps the body, cleans up the crime scene, takes the weapon of choice and hauls ass out of there. She disposes of the wrench in the lake as she paddles across it in a boat, but takes the body with her. It¡Çs clear that Leigh is no master criminal, but she makes mistakes that would get you an F in Committing Crime 101. For starters, her auto body shop has a security camera and has recorded the entire murder. She tosses the CPU into the dumpster without even bothering to erase it. I can buy that part, I mean, this is a small town and it¡Çs doubtful anyone would go dumpster diving for tech products. What she does next I most certainly did not buy. She disposes of the body in the house of the man¡Çs relatives, leaving an anonymous note in their mailbox that basically says ¡ÈMy bad! Sorr-reee! ¡É ¡ÈThey deserved to know, ¡É she tells her estranged father, Officer Richard Tiller ( Will Patton). Otherwise, it would have weighed on her conscience. ¡ÈBlood on Her Name¡É tries to justify this by presenting several flashbacks featuring a young Leigh ( Chandler Head) and Tiller. Seems her dad¡Çs a corrupt cop, placing him firmly in the trenches of noir. Sometimes Leigh talks to her younger self, other times she walks into these flashbacks and observes. It¡Çs a clunky device but these scenes are well shot and edited. Officer Tiller murdered a suspect in cold blood, then apparently disposed of the body. I assume that Leigh¡Çs childhood concern that the victim¡Çs family were left with no clue of his whereabouts contributed to her decision to hand deliver his corpse. But noiristas like me gotta wonder: If your Dad¡Çs corrupt, on the police force, and is adept at making bodies disappear, wouldn¡Çt you call him if you were in the most dire of straits? He seems to be the only cop in town, too. We¡Çre led to believe that her resistance stems from not wanting to figuratively sell her soul to the Devil, but considering her situation, Satan already has her soul on layaway. One of the smarter things ¡ÈBlood on Her Name¡É does is not re-stage the murder for us. All we see is the aftermath; the details are eventually filled in using dialogue. Of course, it turns out that this is a more complicated crime than we were first led to believe, and Pope and his co-writer Don M. Thompson add a protective, maternal dynamic to the proceedings that only works during the film¡Çs climactic showdown between Leigh and Dani ( Elisabeth Röhm), the wife of the slain man. Röhm and Lind are excellent in their scenes together, all of which stem from a missing piece of jewelry plot device lifted straight from Hitchcock¡Çs ¡È Frenzy. ¡É Of the male characters, Tiller is the only one who feels like he came with the neo-noir territory. Patton plays him with an unnerving menace mixed with crime-ridden common sense. Jimmy Gonzales is wasted as the clichéd minority whose sole existence is devoted to helping out the White lead, though at least he doesn¡Çt get that character¡Çs usual destiny and he has some chemistry with Ivers. ¡ÈBlood on Her Name¡É is really onto something with Dani and Leigh¡Çs Mama Bears protecting their cubs subplot, but by the time Leigh realizes she¡Çs truly a chip off her Papa¡Çs old block, too much frustration with her character had set in for me. Shakespeare said ¡Èconscience does make cowards of us all. ¡É Here it just makes you a lousy crook. Reveal Comments comments powered by.
Blood on her name 2019. Synopsis A woman's panicked decision to cover up an accidental killing spins out of control when her conscience demands she return the dead man's body to his family. Cast Crew Details Genres Director Producers Writers Cinematography Composers Popular reviews More I like it when pretty girls kill men Blood on Her Name opens with a pool of blood and a panicked breath. A dead body of a man lies at Leigh¡Çs feet. The cuts on her face would suggest that it was self-defense, an accident. She¡Çs a single mother to a teenage son and fears the consequences for her family and for her auto body shop, so she decides to scrub her garage floor clean and dispose of the body. Just as she¡Çs about to dump his body into the lake, his phone rings. Leigh listens to the message left: it¡Çs from his son. Guilt hits her like a punch in the gut, and her conscience tells her that she must bring his body back to his family, ¡Ä This felt really good. Bethany Anne Lind is completely watchable. I bought her. Her character came off as a real person to me. Will Patton and Dani Wilson are also totally present and bonafide in this. The script shoots for the rural American now and mostly gets it. It does a solid job setting up a series of circumstances that trap the protagonist into making hard and poor choices. But something there at the end, some slippage of rational motivation, some slight scripting convenience to force a wrap up, took me out of it. To the film's credit, the authenticity it achieves throughout is what makes the misstep at the end feel so glaring. It could've used a clearer story¡Ä Vertical Entertainment 2. 39:1 Color Digital 15 A terrifically morbid and atmospheric thriller, intimately produced for a twisted tale of murder. Never flashy or overly centric on making up for its low-level budget. Blood On Her Name suffices in its substantial depth and weighted characters that strive this thriller forward and out of the gloomy VOD bin. 60 FULL REVIEW AT CLAPPER IS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR WRITERS. APPLY HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION Frustration abounds with a thriller that starts on a high note but then levels off and ultimately dips. The opening ten to fifteen minutes of Blood on Her Name are very good indeed. A simple set-up that immediately had me asking questions and making assumptions, with a silent and urgent performance from Bethany Anne Lind. I was urging it not to take the expected route of heading into flashbacks and it actually didn't, which was a pleasant surprise. But as the story unfurls, it slowly becomes apparent that the story isn't actually strong enough to build on its impressive opening, somehow managing to complicate a situation that doesn't even contain all that many moving parts. I do like these sorts¡Ä I don't get the appeal like I was so mf bored. Recent reviews ¡ÈYou¡Çre gonna get blood on your shoes. ¡É A family full of fuck ups. The comparisons to Blue Ruin are apt (although Blood lacks Ruin's black comedy and violent B movie glee) and this is very good. However, I think the downer ending is unsatisfying. I'm all for downer endings but I felt like this film was building to a more optimistic (while still being open ended and tragic) conclusion. Maybe we can break these endless cycles of familial violence The downer ending in Blue Ruin was largely predetermined and unavoidable. in Blood, when [redacted] dies, it's treated like one final narrative jolt. It's a gut punch that feels sort of tacked on. Furthermore, the final confrontation hints at what could have been a slightly different (and maybe better) movie. Instead of solely focusing on Leigh and her family, the film could have alternated between her and the wife of the guy Leigh kills, until they finally collide with one another. About a single mom with a teenage son, who runs an auto shop, when she accidentally kills a man. At first she wants to dump his body, but sudden emergence of conscious makes her to hand over the body to his family. The movie was going smoothly, until its climax scene. Which was too complicated, and made the things go awry. But it may still be a good bait for the fans of neo-noir genre. A taut hillbilly noir-thriller that alternates between dark and darker. The adrenaline and tension that spike in the opening scenes level off into an interesting but in the end somewhat predictable and conclusion. The droning score reminds me of a mid-budget CSI and doesn't do the film any favors. That said, there are solid performances and enough tension to make it worthwhile, if not game changing slice of genre. This is really good and surprisingly clever! I never saw any of the twists coming, even though they feel so obvious in hindsight. Reminded me of a lot THE DEATH OF DICK LONG but played completely straight instead of for laughs. Better-than-average performances for no-budget genre fare, and it remains tense and anxiety-inducing throughout. It works as a piece as genre cinema but also on a deeper level as an examination of how bad influences coming back to haunt us is basically inevitable. Solid, taut backwoods thriller. Very reminiscent of last year¡Çs Standoff at Sparrow Creek in that both are excellent little thrillers with gorgeous cinematography, great performances and are ultimately very bleak and very grimy. Really, really dug this one. Goes some places you don¡Çt expect and is all the more rewarding for it. Bethany Ann Lind is terrific and I¡Çm always over the moon for a good Will Patton performance. Seek this one out. It¡Çs available anywhere you rent digitally. Popular Lists More.

So for everyone who has read the book, I think they made this trailer purposefully light and romantic and happy, with only hints to the seriousness of the book, for a reason. I think they purposefully made the trailer seem light and happy so as to not give away the whole plot of the film/book. I don't think the actual movie will just ignore the important parts of the book.
