Frakk shares a home with Uncle Charles (Károly bácsi) and Aunt Irma (Irma néni), two Hungarian pensioners along with their two cats, Lucretia and Serena, one of them black and the other white. The Broadway show is a string of catchy songs, with some dancing, and very little plot. This is no different. Don't expect a story. Expect to be entertained. The movie builds on the Broadway show and does what is meant to do: entertain. Don't expect oscar winning plot lines. Critics need to be aware of what the movie is working with before they hammer it. The movie is well done. It exceeded my expectations.

Cats cast. Cats song. Cat animal. "Memories" the most famous CATS song, is a very sad song. It's sung by Grizabella as she sits alone, away from all the other cats.

So then why the bloody hell is the camera insisting on being so close to her face? At least give us some wide shots to convey loneliness! Or a simple crane-pull! ANYTHING! PLEASE! The "Tom Hooper" formula of "Extreme close-up, long-take to prove we're singing live" completely obliterates any promise this film had for being something interesting and artistic, instead making it feel like a generic recording of a broadway production, and ironically a worse version than the one we got twenty years ago. I do have other issues; Certain songs, I was internally yelling "YOU'VE MISSED THE JOKE OF THE SONG. For example, Gumby Cat's gimmick is that she's lazy and fat during the day, but becomes posh and sophisticated at night. Here, Rebel Wilson is doing random slapstick with no hint of sophistication at all, making the entire joke of the song fail miserably. Mungojerry and Rumple-teaser's song gets sped up for no reason, making it feel more like a rap than the bouncy tune it was prior, which sucks because the bouncy tune actually felt mischievous but playful, rather than this version which feels like diet-macavity, which is *not* what these cats are about. Speaking of, Macavity's supposed to be a duet. It sounds like it's missing half the song when only Taylor's singing, and by the time Idris jumps in it's already too late. I hadn't heard Macavity's theme in like a decade and was still able to tell it sounded fundamentally wrong; the "punch" of the song doesn't work with just one person singing one pitch.

. .'s plenty more to bash this film for, but on the whole it's very clear that very little love and thought went into this film; pretty much everything they change is for the worse.

And, as I stated, the flat cinematography alone is enough for me to classify this film as a failure from an artistic perspective.
