I found a knockoff that is called hollow ammo. Oh, this is just one of those boring social-realistic russian movies. That was what I thought before I saw this movie. But I had to reconcider radically afterwards. Forget The Thin Red Line, forget Saving Private Ryan, forget Platoon. Do you want to see a realistic and bizarre war-epic this is the one. Many weird moments but it all symbolize life or death, and the documentaric style often leaves you stunned and suprised. Oh, and if it was possible: Would you go back in time and kill Hitler.

I saw this movie first time when I was about 15. And I can not forget it still after 25 years. I absolutely loved Come and See. I found its new point-of-view on war a breath of fresh air. Furthermore, this film to me was more true to exactly what war causes to the psychological condition. Although perhaps director Elim Klimove did not set out to create a horrifying/scarring film about the injustices that occurred in Byelorussia. In fact, he does two great things in this film. He really makes the audience reflect of the horrors/tragedies of war as well redefine the war film genre entirely. What most affected me was the exact terror that the Nazi regime committed. As the film ends it informs us that the massacre that occurred in that village happened over 600 times just in the tiny area of Byelorussia. This made such a huge impact to me. Of course I had heard of the immense numbers of casualties of the war, but it took it happening to one small village for me to understand the atrocities. Something the director I feel achieved greatly was making the audience feel as though they were there in the battlefields with the main character Florya. This was done through great special effects along with dramatic sound effects. The experience of this film is unforgettable and in my eyes overrides countless films that glorify war.
PPPFFFFFTTT, I watched Requiem like six times in a row once when my cable was out. And then went into a deep, dark depression for like a year. I don't see the connection. A good number of these burnings were conducted by Ukrainian SS regiments (still had German/Austrians officers as they retreated from Russia. That is why they are drunk and sloppy, because they know Russians will show them 0 mercy and for doing evil like this, the sadists deserved no pitty.
Is this the one where a member of a Scandinavian in a Wiking division said he was forced by the Germans when they were captured by the Russians. A must see. A fairly accurate depiction of what the German did at the eastern front as well the occupied parts of Central Europe. Just for the record soviets were oftentimes little better themselves. The original uncut version was better. It was about 5 hrs long. I'm pretty sure that this movie represents what actually happened in Byelorussia in that time. Based on the commentary of many who were actually there.
