We landed at 12. 45 and managed to get the 2. 30 ferry with time to spare. But this was with no particular delays, and a taxi driver who drove at a terrifying speed from the airport to the ferryport... We knew we had the option of a later ferry if necessary. You could be unlucky, and then you'd have to scurry around finding somewhere to stay (assuming that 20. 30 is the last ferry. There's not a lot of point in arriving late in the evening in Gomera - if I were you I'd stop over on Tenerife, and then enjoy the ferry crossing in daylight next morning. If you do stay overnight and leave buying your ferry ticket until the last minute, that gives you more flexilbility. As far as I can see, the Armas ferry goes at 8. 45 and the Olsen one at 9. 00, so you could keep your options open. The Armas takes a little longer but there won't be much in it when it comes to the arrival times. The Armas is somewhat cheaper, and is such a big boat that it never has to be cancelled in rough weather, whereas the Olsen one sometimes does. But early April should be good weather, and a perfect time for a holiday in Gomera. The taxi ride is about 20 minutes if traffic is OK - it should be at this time on Sunday. You can save a bit by buying your tickket beforehand if you buy a return. Ideally you need to get to the port about 15 mins before departure - in practice anything up to a couple of minutes before have worked for me! We use the Hotel Andreas in Los Cristianos if we have to stay overnight. Its central, clean and reasonably priced. Ferry times may well change again before you go. The daytime sailing would surely be more enjoyable as well, should you not make the ferry getting a room at that time of night, all be it very available, would not be my idea of settling in on the first night. We have arrived very late on occasions and just arranged to pick up the apartment key from a bar. It is true you will miss the opportunity to dolphin & whale spot on the ferry (with about a 90% succes rate in my experience) but waking up in Gomera as opposed to being still in Tenerife is definitely worth it. You can always go on Excursiones Tina to see the dolphins. If you go for a return ticket make sure that brand of boat will get you back to the airport on your last day - the tickets are not interchangable. Also bear in mind that the little Olsen boats go to Santiago and Valle Gran Rey as well as San Sebastian so if you are staying on that side of the island they make more sense. Unless you have a car. Unless you are a "reasonable" sailor I'd recommend giving the little Olsen boats a miss for the journey from Tenerife. Good option, on a calm day! for travelling between Valle Gran Rey, Playa de santiago and San Sebastian. 8. Not sure why you would recommend avoiding the Benchi Express though it is not relevant to this particular journey as it doesn't sail from Los Cristianos at that time. It can be a bit bumpy but otherwise fine - the Olsen small boats are bigger than the TransMed ones that plied the same route until a few years ago. Notice from the time tables that that service is anyway now mainly between Santiago, VGR and San Sebastian. It only goes over to Los Cristianos twice a week. Given no other pressure I go for the Armas boat everytime though. Much better experience, more chance to see the wildlife on the way over and it feels like a proper boat not an aircraft flying very low over the sea. Oh and the onboard catering is better too! For me the holiday begins once I am on the deck with a beer and binoculars at the ready. Saw something very big breach last year but not close enough to identify. I suspect it was a sperm whale as there had been reports of one in the area a few days earlier. But the dolphins and pilots whales are nearly always there. 9. At 92 return for 2 adults it is the best value, the freedom of being able to walk around and take in the journey makes this seem the best option providing the times suit the passenger. Travelled from Playa de Santiago to Valle Gran Rey on a little Olsen boat and approx 50% of the travellers weren't reasonable sailors. Won't go in to too much detail! We're really introduced to Cristi (Vlad Ivanov) and Gilda (Catrinel Marlon) when Gilda walks up to Cristi and asks to speak with him in his apartment. Cristi whispers into her ear that he apartment is bugged, so she kisses him and tells him she'll play the part of a hooker, and they can whisper her request, which is to help her by getting a criminal, Zsolt, out of prison. In an early scene, Cristi is on a ferry heading to an island where the ancient people use to communicate by whistling. Cristi is part of a plot working with other criminals to free Zsolt and to do this he has to learn the whistling language. The language breaks vowels and consonants into seven whistling sounds. This lesson in this language was the most exciting part of the film. I was fascinated with Cristi learning how to whistle and wanted to practice, along with him, right in the theater. As the film develops, some parts led me to believe that the story in the movie was pre-planned, and I missed something as the film progressed. At other times, I felt as though Cristi and Gilda were planning the ending along the way because they'd fallen for each other. As an undercover detective, Cristi works for an unnamed woman place by Rodica Lazar, who is trying to play both ends of this story. The result is a film that has the appearance of a storyline running at two different levels, but in the end, the person sitting next to me asked if he missed something about how the ending worked out, I said "I don't know, and I still don't. Ivanov was quietly compelling as the detective who was also on the take. Marlon was excellent as the woman who seemed totally in control of story behind the plot. Lazar was strong as the head of the investigation and also susceptible to corruption. Corneliu Porumboiu wrote and directed this quizzical story that left me hanging. Overall: I either missed a critical section of this Romanian film or the story was attempting to be too elusive.
