I grew up in a summer town where I worked at smaller businesses and it was hard to not see the business owners struggle. Even bigger stores have to do this now (ex: Barnes & Noble) toys, journals, accessories - it's hard not to dive into these markets when big names like Amazon are out here selling EVERYTHING you could imagine.
