Kaguyahime no monogatari is a movie starring Chloë Grace Moretz, James Caan, and Mary Steenburgen. Found inside a shining stalk of bamboo by an old bamboo cutter and his wife, a tiny girl grows rapidly into an exquisite young lady director=Isao Takahata 30785 votes Chloë Grace Moretz Riko Sakaguchi country=Japan. The story is meandering, convoluted and doesn't make efficient use of the visual medium to deliver information, rather it feels more like listening to a slowly narrated audio book whilst flicking through some nice illustrations. I was intensely bored by most of it, despite the undeniable charm of some of the animation, I felt there wasn't any effort to engage the viewer on a deeper level with more dynamic film language or snappier, cleverer story telling.
Saw the English version, voiced by Joseph Gordon Levitt and Emily blunt. I honestly thought that this movie was going to be boring,but I was wrong. Very great work from Miyazaki. I've never seen his previous projects other than Spirited Away. I might check out his other works like ponyo. If I hear that you pine for me, I will return to you. Glad to hear SG is still on a roll. Just curious, what are some lesser known animes that you enjoy? Your tastes seem to stray towards mainstream anime like Studio Ghibli or anything that was on Toonami, or big hitters like Akira or Ghost in the Shell. Got any out of left field favorites.

I love his films and just watching this movie a few hours ago I can say that it was a beautiful film and a lot more realistic than his others. But also the parallels to the first movie I watched from ghibli (Princess Mononoke) I would watch this over and over. And still cry at the end. I knew it when Frozen beat The Wind Rises in 2014.? I do like traditional animation more than 3D CGI animation, but I think Dreamworks' bigger, more serious CGI projects like HTTYD2 blow the CGI of Disney out of the water. I still love Disney, but I feel like they didn't deserve the Animation Oscar for the past 2 years. There were better stuff.

The Budda (I believe he is) stands there and observes, it's very distilled and purified and almost artificial, which makes sense when we learn of the Robe of the Moon.
I got a little teary eyed. Beautiful. I think I'm out of tears and this movie beat my Ecxpectations 11/10 would recommend.
