Forestcraft Having had enough of Korwa and her insane Dress making a band of great apes one night descend upon her abode, violence in their hearts, grabbing whatever they could find in the dark they stormed her residence and proceeded to thrash her with their improvised weaponry, but one of the apes had secured an Arboreal core which upon contact with Korwa shattered, the contents absorbed by her body infusing her with new manic energy... The screams that resounded from her home that night would haunt the nightmares of those in the area for decades to come. For Forestcraft not much has changed (though could change a lot with the mini expansion) with SDH forest, Control Forest and Midrange Forest being the main decks, machina and Aggro are also about, but again, aiming for a bit of brevity this time around. SDH Forest Still popular with higher ranked streamers though the novelty may have slightly worn off a bit by now, there doesn't seem to have been made any major changes to the deck this week and no major tournament appearances. A combo deck that aims to assemble all pieces and set them up for lethal with a buffed up Sky Devouring Horror. Control Forest The other slow forest deck, certainly a bit less popular as of late but could perhaps gain fresh interest as it can easily make use of the new Grimnir for extra board control making it more easy to stall for the lategame, plus the ward does not hurt either. Midrange Forest Not seen or heard much of it but i imagine it's still popular to some degree. We'll see if it makes any use of the new gold as that could be something useful for the deck. Swordcraft It is a rainy day as we find Erika staring out the window, pining for her princess stuck in so far eternal slumber. Outside soldiers continue to drill and train since Latham doesn't care if it's raining water, lightning, fire or whatever it is Grimnir fires at them. They will drill and they will be battleready! For Swordcraft Midrange Continues to be the main deck followed by Machina Sword and perhaps... Evolve Midrange Sword sees a boost with the new Grimnir. Midrange Sword Not much new here, still the same deck with some variations though they do seem to be steadily vanishing. STill very played at the JCG Open. We'll see what the new cards do to it and for it. Lots of ways things could end up going here. Evolve decks gaining more tools, Machina blood and Shadow as well. So some potential for something to slow down Midrange Sword appearing. Machina Sword Note this version is taken from the JCG Open where it managed to reach the top 3 with this list. Otherwise no major changes to appearances to the list, most decks seem to sneak in a few Midrange Sword tools and Technolord is definitely also a very common feature as he serves as another card to trigger Stampeding Fortress, is good board control and can help bring back Johann or Mechawing angel in the lategame as well. New Grimnir could perhaps pose a problem, then again with plenty of ways to flood the board perhaps not too much, or just necessitating more ways to generate tokens (weathered vanguard says hello. Evolve Sword No major appearances or changes to the deck, but with the addition of new Grimnir at the least the deck could gain some more serious teeth and perhaps compete with actual Midrange Sword more actively. So we'll see how that works out. Runecraft In the great Mysterian Academies panic is abound as someone has been spreading Erotic fan fiction about Anne and Daria and both of the involved are swiftly trying to stop it before Grea finds out about it. Unbeknownst to them though, it is a silly plot orchestrated by Cagliostro who found herself rather bored as she awaits more new stuff to play with. For Runecraft no major changes, Prophetess, Spellboost and Mysteria are the decks that see any major play. Prophetess Rune For Prophetess rune there has been no major changes this week from what i know of nor any major appearances, it could perhaps consider using Clarke since the accelerate effect is essentially a more clumsy Mysterian Knowledge so that could maybe happen. Spellboost Rune Similarly no major changes or new appearances. A more midranged spellboost deck, it could perhaps run King Solomon for something with Unbodied Witch or perhaps something else. Or could run Clarke which if combined with Raio does allow for a more ad-hoc Daria effect. Mysteria Rune Still about in some form, though not as popular as the other two. I am not sure if it will make any use of the new cards. At most it could maybe use Clarke and even then that might be a bit of a stretch, but it's low cost and ease to get into still renders it reasonably played. Dragoncraft In Aquarium where all the horrific deep sea creatures sleep and rest during the night we find Rowen on clean up duty after all of his antics with satan these last few weeks, and boy is it not pretty work. Especially with the addition of Dagon who does not eat nicely... lots of body parts all over the place too. For Dragon Satan Ramp and Aggro Dragon are the main decks going about. Satan Ramp Still the main one, but no real major appearances this week or any major changes. And i doubt it will be making any use of the new cards as is. Aggro Dragon Continuing to sneak about in the meta as the most effective Aggro Deck at the moment, the deck has seen no major appearances or changes and i don't think it wants to remotely run any of the new cards since they don't work with the strategy at all. Dagon Dragon? Probably not. Shadowcraft In the great Catacomb of Shadowcraft we find Luna overjoyed as they're getting a new Doggy! A new friend for Luna to play with and to keep Cerberus company in the doghouse, just hopefully better behaved than Cerberus. For Shadowcraft Arcus and Machina Shadow remains the main driving forces of Shadowcraft for now. Arcus Shadow Still the main Shadowcraft deck, no major changes to the deck this week from what i have seen though Cerberus seems to be making a slow return having briefly been utterly outdone by Ceres. Don't think Arcus will be running any of the new cards, though i could be proven wrong (i hope i am not) managed to reach top 3 in the most recent JCG open if i remember correctly. So seems to be making a slow return in the competetive meta. Machina Shadow Note this list is taken from the JCG Open where it along with another machina Shadow managed the top 16. Seems like the recent attempt is to include Gilnelise and aim for a more midrange style deck that can also stall out if it comes down to it, giving the deck a bit more range. We'll see if this sticks about. as for inclusions, the new Shadowcraft Legendary seems like the obvious guess and it will be interesting to see how that turns out. Bloodcraft In the vast and awfully red halls of Bloodcraft we find Exella on pest control duty as it would seem they've gotten an Owlcat infestation, and while they're awfully cute, they eat up bats like there is no tomorrow much to the great sadness of Vania. So Exella somehow found herself with the job of Exterminator. For Bloodcraft Darkfeast Bat and Machina Blood along with Vengeance blood continue to rule with a Brazen fist. Darkfeast Bat blood Same story as the previous weeks, still the most played blood deck it seems (though i encountered more Machina blood personally this week) and no immediate inclusions from the mini expansion since it can't really make much use of either of the two new cards being added or Grimnir. We'll see how it survives the mini expansion. Machina Blood This version is from the JCG Open where it managed to reach the top 4. Machina Blood otherwise has no other major changes or additions except more decks are running Technolord now, primarily for the board control element and less for the fanfare. Looking very likely to run Slayn the new Legendary though how that will affect the deck and how it is played is harder to gauge at the moment. Vengeance Blood Vengeance blood continues to stick around on the ladder it seems with reasonable success though i have not personally seen much of it. As for cards it could run, the new blood gold could perhaps be something, being able to provide a Storm card that can be hand buffed is not necessarily all bad. Though whether it gets run or not is another matter. Havencraft In the Holy Church of Havencraft things are not well as Garuda is starting to have some serious misgivings about these "Gods" she keeps bringing in, forgotten ones, untrue ones and so on. How about just sticking to one god? What's so bad about the Big Angry bird god that scratches faces off? It was good enough for Garuda and all of his ancestors, why is it not good enough for Eris? Deep discussions of faith and theology would follow. For Havencraft Holy Lion Haven and Tzekibaba Haven seem to be the decks for now. Who knows, maybe something new can appear with the mini expansion? Holy Lion Haven Still the most played haven deck by far and the second most popular at the JCG Opens, no major changes to the deck, as for possible inclusions, it could theoretically run Untrue god to consistently draw Temple of the Holy Lion and drag out a Moriae Encomium ensuring deck thinning and a lot of other things. If true could perhaps make the deck even nastier, though there is no guarantee it will be run. Tzekibaba Haven Still about in some form or the other. But overall no major changes to the deck or appearances this week really. We'll see how it handles the mini expansion and whether or not it tries out any of the new cards. An accident introduces them to a strange young man who claims to be the caretaker of the grounds and invites them for a dinner that over the course of a few hours, will have enormous consequences for all sat around the camp fire. First timer Kim Jin-Mook writes and directs a slow burning thriller, that, like a rolling stone, gathers more and more pace as the film unfolds. A story-line with multiple twists that at first may seem a little tedious, is purely appetiser for a fairly well executed final act. Technically, the film performs quite well, with excellent use of nighttime scenery to build the tension. The music was for the most part, a little cheesy with a 70s police cop show vibe, but once again the third act came through with some great brooding synth work. Oh Man-Seok (‘A Brand New Life) plays our mayoral candidate supported by his mistress Lee Na-Ra (‘Forgotten) and our antagonist Ji Hyun-Woo (‘Trot Lovers. Ji Hyun-Woo is clearly the stand out, as the smiling Kim taking us on whatever journey he wants to tell to suit his story. I guess my only real concern was that, although the culminating final twists and scenes unravelled in a hugely entertainment way, regardless of the outcome you never really care for any of the characters. They are all bad people doing bad things, so without having empathy for anyone, when someone is defeated, its by someone equally deserving of their comeuppance. Im not saying by any means you need to have likeable characters for a film to have any merit. Its just, I found myself hoping everyone would be punished, but in a thriller of this style there will always be some sort of winner, alive or dead. I think for a first time film, it is an excellent effort but maybe the character development needed to do delve a little deeper. Irrespective I look forward to his what his sophomore film has in store for us. Advertisement.
