I’m an avid reader, so my original intent was to use it as a universal e-book device. However, I’ve grown to love watching videos and TV shows on it because of its fairly large screen and lightweight design. YouTube gets boring, though, and that’s where Crackle comes in. Developed by the famous website of the same name, Crackle provides you with free and on demand videos. Better than Netflix, Hulu, and almost every other video streaming site you can think of, this app is an absolute must for movie and TV show lovers. Concept and Functionality: As far as concept goes, this is probably one of the best ideas for an app and website that I’ve ever seen. Most sites that offer free full-length videos and TV shows include some sort of gimmick that ends up spamming your email inbox or infects your computer with malware and spyware. Seeing as Crackle is owned by Sony, it’s very unlikely that the service would be some sort of sham. Navigating the app is a breeze and you’ll be watching a movie or TV show in no time. The main screen displays a huge variety of featured movies and shows. The bar at the bottom of the app allows you to quickly access movies, shows, watch lists, and your settings page. The pages for movies and shows are very similar in that the front page displays the featured titles that are available. Luckily you can set a browsing criteria that will allow you to view different genres, as well as which movies and shows are the most popular. Those of you who are familiar with paid TV show and movie streaming services know what a watchlist is. One of the really nice things about Crackle is that they provide recommended watch lists even if you haven’t created your own. One of the things I enjoy the most about Crackle is that it’s not cluttered with ads. Movies and shows are displayed beautifully on my Nexus 7, and audio is crisp and clear. Features: What happens if you have to exit the app in the middle of watching something? Fear not, entertainment seeker! Crackle has a “Resume” button in the top right of the app if you started a video and didn’t finish it. Not only that, but you also have the option to start the video from the beginning or resume where you left off. How cool is that? Seeing as Crackle regularly ads new movies and TV shows, you have the option to receive notifications when this happens. This is perfect for those of you who like to stay up to date and watch the latest offerings from the site. Although the app is very straightforward and allows you to access everything Crackle has to offer, there are a couple of features which I noticed are missing. The notification bar remains visible while watching a video, which can be a bit distracting if you have a bunch of things going on. It would be nice if there was a way to “full screen” the video so you could hide it. Another function I found to be missing is the absence of a search bar or button. I’ve looked all around the app and can’t find one. I guess I’ll just have to search a little bit harder for a James Bond movie. Value: If I could give this section 100 stars, it wouldn’t come close to rating the true value of Crackle. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the ultimate time killer and entertainment app. The best part? Everything is completely free. Stop paying $10 a month for subscription services. Stop scouring YouTube. " Studiocanal UK has debuted a full-length trailer for Ben Wheatley's film High-Rise, starring Tom Hiddleston as one of the newest residents of the top floor of a massive high rise complex that represents social classes. Jeremy Irons plays the man at the very top, joined by a cast including Luke Evans, Sienna Miller, Elisabeth Moss, James Purefoy, Keeley Hawes and Sienna Guillory. This is looking like the kind of dark, devious, dastardly film I'm anxious to see right now.
