As Johnny aged, he got better. His voice became so well-worn and distinctive that that alone changed songs. But more than that, he sang with such real and subtle emotion as older artist- like man delivering the eulogy for his spouse and wanting to do a perfect job for her but stoically fighting back the deluge of tears and pain that want to burst forth.
