My wife and I are considering purchasing the Nighthawk mobile hot spot and I’m scouring the net looking for MVOIs that offer unlimited data and coming up short because the ones that do are Sprint and we have bad Sprint coverage in our residential area. ATT is the best coverage here and we have our phones with ATT and hot spot addition on all devices (2 iPads and 2 iPhones). We are looking into this because while we live in a metro area, our residential area currently has no internet offered by any ISP for some reason, and there is no telling when or if ATT or some other ISP will bring broadband to our little pocket of the city. I know dedicated mobile hot spots aren’t really considered replacements for residential internet, but our hope is that we can cut off DirecTV and get at least a sizeable amount of data monthly for less than we are now paying for DirecTV, and at least stream Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. At this point I’m extremely cynical that our area will even get 5g coverage when it’s fully rolled out given the small towers and shorter distance and the admitted lack of luck our area seems to have with getting pulled into even the 21st century Internet-wise. Is this possible with ATT’s mobile hot spot plans? Could I do an MVOI and get unlimited? I’ve contacted ATT multiple times about internet availability but no one can really tell us if there are plans for bringing fiber or UVerse to our area and I believe there is little we can do to get them to do it. I run a business out of my house and I need SOMETHING, meanwhile we can’t use (but pay for) DTV on demand and can’t download the movies or shows or use a smart TV or stream to our TV without some serious jerry rigging. I’d like to be able to do all these things and the Nighthawk looks like our best option, but at a pretty expensive cost to not get throttled or run out of data. In short, does anyone have experience exclusively using a mobile hot spot or the Nighthawk specifically for home internet on ATT or one of their MVOIs, and has it been a good experience? I’ve read about doing some kind of tablet plan trick and putting the SIM into the hot spot, but not sure I want to spend forever on the phone with ATT and buy a new tablet just to be able to do this.

I’m looking to set up our WiFi home network and need advice on whether to go with a mesh network, such as Netgear Orbi, or set up one or two APs through routers, such as Netgear Nighthawk. We stream a lot of movies off Vudu, Netflix, and YouTube. My son likes his games like Fortnite on a PC. We primarily use iPads and one BluRay for movies. The cable modem is in the basement. I’ve tried two things so far both with mixed results: installed a nighthawk router in the basement and set up an access point on the main floor. We got good signal in the basement and main and OK on the second floor where the bedrooms are. The house is built really solid with some stone walls and solid floor boards. I can pull a cable to the second floor master bedroom, but haven’t done it yet. 2) then I tried Netgear Orbi mesh. Turned off nighthawks, I stalked router in the basement, put two satellites on the main floor and one upstairs. While the download speeds went up a little on the main floor, the 2nd floor is about the same So, I’m wondering if I should go back to the first set up and install another AP after pulling a cable there on the 2nd floor. And one other question, with either set up, is there a way I can have a device connect to the stronger source signal as someone walks around the house with say an IPad. Say I start in the bedroom, then walk to the patio on the main floor, will either the mesh or AP better to switch connections automatically to the stronger satellite or AP?
