And the more I learn about the writer and her family the more context it gives and informs the story. There is far more eloquent literary analysis out there talking about the enduring legacy of this book and why it has continued to be enjoyed. But I have seen sentiments like your comment and i cant help but think it is because Little Women is a period piece mostly aimed at the women who loved the book or 1994 movie adaptation and people seem to think that if women love it then its dumb and not worth the energy of remaking.
I am not familiar with the source material, but it looks good and solid in the way a lot of period pieces do. I like Gerwig's other work (as an actress, writer, and director) so there is that as well. I think this could do well if the reviews are good, and very well if it gets a lot of award season buzz. Lady bird made $76 Million, and this film has a much more stacked cast + well known source. Does anyone know the budget?
