This movie is not a movie for entertaining, at least it wast entertaining for me but i couldn't blink during the movie was so real to me that i was nervous during the movie and i had this feeling that it is it real?how could they do this?I have never seen a world war-II movie that shows the violent and horror of the war that much and i was really affected by the was really shocking and real for me especially the scene that the bomb exploded, i felt that it exploded just next to me, i could feel what Florya the last scene when Florya shot at the picture of Hitler,it was like he was trying to go back to the time,with each shot it was like he went to 10 years before this and you start thinking that how the world could change if Hitler hasn't born, he was trying to delete all the miseries and memories that Hitler brought to the world but when he get to the point that Hitler was a child he couldn't shot anymore, in contrast to the previous scenes when Germans burn the children alive, Florya couldn't do it and that shows that humanities was still movie affected me a lot and i know that ill never forget about it.

Story from my family: My grandmother was a young girl at that time and lived in Volokolamsk, small town on the North-West of Moscow Region - it was occupied by Nazis for only two months of Oct-Dec 1941. So one day they put several hundreds of Russian POWs in local Orthodox church, this information was widely spread amongst town inhabitants in advance and asked locals to bring there blankets and pillows and mattresses for comfort of POWs. After local people brought all they can for making life of our soldiers easier, Germans closed church, pour with gasoline everything they could and set it on fire. For those who managed to jump out of the church machine gunners were ready outside of the church. Church burnt very quickly with hunderds of our soldiers inside because of gasoline and plenty of highly flammable materials inside. And it was not Dirlewanger brigade or any of SS units. Just normal Wehrmacht infantry division. That's all about it.

By the way, I just finished reading CHILD 44, a novel, and anyone who likes this might like that book... Ok, number 1 is kind've a bad choice because a documentary shouldn't count. The whole point of a video like this (and why people watch them) is because people who dig war movies are curious to know how accurate (or inaccurate) Hollywood movies portray war, and if so, according to Vets, which movies do it best.? ?Placing a documentary of actual combat at Number 1 defeats the entire point of even making this list.

I am not only speaking for myself, I am speaking for many of you out there when I say that this movie makes such an impact on you and leaves a scar of an unforgettable story. It is not an antiwar movie, it is just a genuine portray of what war is all about. Without any censoring you get to experience the young boy Florian's horrific journey in Belarus throughout World War 2 where 628 villages were brutally and inhumanly destroyed by the Nazis. The most powerful impact about this movie is how the young boy's appearance changes during the course of the movie, before your eyes he literally changes and looks like an old man in the end. I was left speechless for a while, never before has a movie made me use all my five senses, made me feel, smell and hear every second of the film. Elem Klimov is brilliant in the way that when you are just telling yourself "it is just a film" he takes you right back to Florian's atrocious reality.

The transport was by rail, truck, and/or boat, and then by forced march. the food was subsistence level farming (by the prisoners) and by issued rations. it has all been documented and is not denied by even the russian government. there are museums and monuments all over russia which are dedicated to the victims. so you completely fail with your angry usa hating rant.
