Hey folks I just got back from this film so if you're seeing this YOU HAVE to go! the story is phenomenal, with acting to match. the most impressive thing is the camera work, I can only count 3 visible cuts, the way it moves and follows continuously, it really feels like you're WITH them, so much detail and realism you can feel every soldier, every spec of dirt, it entrances you, an absolute masterclass of a film. Dark waters dupont. Dark waters trailer 4k. All the way back in June, I decided to listen to one album everyday for the entire month and write down some of my first impressions. I wanted to discover some new artist because I found myself listening to the same shit over and over. One thing led to another and I failed at the 24th day and I was ashamed so I didn't post anything of it except to the daily discussion threads. However, today I was thinking maybe I could help other people discover something new as well, so here it is, I hope you enjoy reading some of it and relate. Or not. We are all people with opinions so don't come for me lol. A lot of my opinions changed too. For instance, I fell in love with Heard It In A Past Life by Maggie Rogers and I don't like Madame X as much as I did on my initial listen. 1) Nina Nesbitt - The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change (70/100) First of all, let me just say, I started this month with a bang. I have never heard a single song from her before but I was quite familiar with her name for some reason. So the album starts off very strong. 'Sacred' captured my attention almost immediately, it's such a wonderful song and a great opener. 'The Best You Had' has a really catchy chorus, I found myself bopping with it on my initial listen. I love the lyrical content in 'Loyal To Me' so much, it bops hard as well and it gives me all the TLC and Destiny's Child vibes I never knew I needed from this album. The other standouts on the album are probably Colder, Love Letter and Empire. Altogether, there are some tracks I don't care for, but it's certainly on the better side. She's very talented and correct me if I'm wrong but she's writing all her songs, that's rare and admirable in this genre. 2) Joy Crookes - Perception (EP) (40/100) I didn't even consider checking her out at first but it was as if YouTube knew what I'm about to do, it recommended me her single 'Since I Left You (Demo)'. I'll be honest, it almost made me cry. So I didn't hesitate any further and I went in for the EP. 'London Mine' is a song I will be listening to more, for sure. Other than that, 'Hurts' is a cute song, but the EP was nothing groundbreaking. But overall, I liked it. 3) Tori Kelly - Hiding Place (10/100) Needed to say, it was not what I expected. At all. When it comes to gospel, my knowledge ends with Sister Act or Mariah’s Make It Happen, which is not a lot. On the bright side, ‘Masterpiece’ was a great opener. I kind of wished the rest of the album would be like that but unfortunately it wasn’t. ‘Just As Sure’ was an enjoyable duet. ‘Questions’ was super sad and serious I almost cried. I didn’t know what I’m signing up for because I only knew Tori through her hits like ‘Dear No One’ or ‘Should’ve Been Us’, which I both love. And this was nothing like that. I was disappointed because christian music isn’t something I necessarily look for. But I can’t say I hated this album. It was enjoyable, I just didn’t quite care for the theme/lyrical content. This is just my humble homosexual opinion, I think it deserved the awards it got because it’s great in its own way but it needs an acquired taste. It just isn’t for me. 4) Kim Petras - Turn Off The Light, Vol. 1 (EP) (45/100) Another shocker, this time a good one though. It is June but bitch made me feel like it’s Halloween. ‘Close Your Eyes’ stood out the most for sure. Elvira’s cameo was cool, I just don’t know why I thought she was gonna sing lol. ‘In The Next Life’ is probably the most halloween-y track on the album with all that shrieking. I am a huge horror fan so I liked the theme and the sonics a lot but there were too many instrumentals for my liking. They were flawless, I just wanted to hear more of Kim. Will probably get into her other work soon. 5) Florence + The Machine - High As Hope (80/100) I started this month with Nina Nesbitt's album TSWCU, TSWC and I found myself replaying it ever since. I was afraid nothing can beat it but then I listened to this album. I was very familiar with Florence Welch. Some of my favourite tracks from her previous albums are Kiss With A Fist, Breaking Down (this song caresses my soul every time I hear it), What Kind Of Man (silly but when I start sentence with "What kind of.. ", I always hear "man" in my head lol) and Ship To Wreck. I only ever heard one full album from her though and it was Ceremonials. High As Hope will definitely go down in history as one of the best albums I have ever heard. Sadly, it starts off weak in my opinion, 'June' isn't my most favourite track on the album. But it gets better really quick. 'Hunger' and 'South London Forever' are amazing tracks I definitely want to hear again. 'Big God' is interesting, especially the last few seconds felt like Alaska Thunderfuck had a cameo on it lol. 'Patricia' is almost as good as 'Hunger', I just love when Florence has these almost aggressively upbeat songs. And I totally understand why these were singles. I also enjoyed all the vocal harmonies in 'The End of Love', very beautiful. Overall, it's one of the albums where some tracks only work if you listen to the album in full but there are a lot of standouts, as I stated above. 6) Jess Glynne - Always In Between (Deluxe Edition) (30/100) When it comes to artists with such distinctive voice, I usually get bored very easily. I had this problem with Cheryl Cole’s work, after few tracks it gets a little irritating. Luckily, this wasn’t the case with Jess Glynne. I liked her voice a lot throughout the entire album but the problem is that all the songs sounded kind of the same. If you don’t pay enough attention, you could easily get lost in the shuffle. I don’t really know what else to say about this album. I put a mark to ‘All I Am’, it was a nice track. Just when I started losing hope, ‘Rollin’ came on and I was so excited. Sonically completely different production compared to the rest of the album, it gave me such country vibes I went yeehaw from the excitement. It also reminded me of Kylie’s Lifetime To Repair. Regarding the deluxe edition tracks, ‘These Days’ stood out to me because of the different production. I don’t know who Rudimental was but I liked it. Calling an intro an ‘Intro’, choices. ‘Insecurities’ - a good closing track but I couldn’t help but feel like her voice was cracking at the end and it almost sounded off key. Correct me if I’m wrong, or if it was intentional - great. Overall, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad album whatsoever, it’s an easy pop listen with simple lyrical content. There’s no meta message hidden behind it which is completely fine but I also won’t remember it tomorrow. To follow her super successful album ‘I Cry When I Laugh’ must have been tough so I think she did a great job. 7) Christine and the Queens - Chris (100/100) Where was this girl hiding? And why is nobody talking about her? I’ll admit I saw her on Drag Race and even though I hated her ‘Sissy That Walk’ cover, for the sake of the album marathon, I decided to give it a go. Now THIS is the epitome of pop perfection. I listened to the album twice in both English and French and it’s just breathtaking. The powerful tunes just speak to me and the beats are everything. Both ‘Comme si’ and ‘Girlfriend’ are complete bops. Girlfriend starting with the guy saying “Chris! ” is so retro and campy, I can’t get enough of it. ‘Goya Soda’ with that low pitched beat is so beautifully filthy. ‘Feel So Good’ for some reason connects with me. Ah, screw it. I listen to it again while writing this and it gets better every time. Her French accent is so hot, fits the music perfectly and sounds so good. The 80’s essence of the album mixed with modern elements is just an icing on the cake. I also watched her music videos which are really something but at least she’s staying true to herself and feels comfortable in her own skin. And as someone in the comment section said, when I listened to the album, it also reminded me of Robyn’s Body Talk at times. I didn’t expect I would find so much amazing music in just 6 days and I can’t wait for what else is to come. Little survey, do you prefer hearing the songs in English or French? 8) AURORA - Infections of a Different Kind (Step 1) & A Different Kind Of Human (Step 2) (90/100) I can’t believe what I was missing when I only listened to handful of artists until now. This bitch is a piece of work. Put her in the Louvre because this is ART mawma. All the songs are so majestic that it almost sounds like watching some big screen fantasy movie. At the same time, the lyrics are so wholesome and uplifting, that’s what we were missing in music nowadays. She’s so pure and watching her interviews she’s like the cutest alien. I already listened to a lot of great music in the previous days but this made me full-on Pikachu shocked. It’s amazing. I also hear a slight Enya influence in her songs and Dido in her vocals. Both the albums were great but I think I prefer Step 1, as of now. ‘Gentle Earthquake’ was stuck in my mind after my first listen. Other highlights - Queendom, Churchyard (so beautiful and when the beat dropped and it suddenly became a dance bop, I lost it completely), The River, Animal, Dance on the Moon 9) Sigrid - Sucker Punch (60/100) If this isn’t the most boppable album ever, I don’t know what is. Sigrid is serving the gays what they need because I couldn’t stop moving. For the first half of the album, anyway. ‘Mine Right Now’ is such an anthem with that exploding chorus. The biggest highlight of this album is ‘Strangers’. That track really is that bitch. I also have a thing for talking in songs, so ‘Don’t Feel Like Crying’ was right up my alley. Honestly if this came out before avengers, there would be no way we though he could pull off a super hero role. Oh my god! when he made the fart noises at the beginning, I was already done ???. So like im leaving the movie theather and just WOWW? this movie made me cry and its just a MASTERPIECE?. Very interesting story. Yo mark i'm poor. i heard you wanted to give away your millions. ?. I've seen this a while ago and it just popped back up on my recommended list. Love this and defintely hopes this goes to the big screen! Great Job.

Occasionally I get a hankering to write some bullshit about games, and since none of my friends nerd out about this stuff as much as I do, reddit is often the only outlet I have for this. As the title may have clued you in, I replayed the Witcher 3 (W3 from now on) over my Christmas holidays (I got sick about halfway through so I had quite a lot of time to play) along with it's DLC's. So, I thought I'd like to do a little writeup about what my experience has been replaying one of my favorite games of all time. Since it's been several years since my first playthrough, I wondered how well my memory served me. Right out of the gate, I'll reiterate what I said earlier: W3 is in my personal Top 3 of All Time, along with Red Dead Redemption 2 and probably Dark Souls 3. I've been playing games for about 25 years, so I've got a decent back catalogue to compare to. If I wanted to pat myself on the back a little, I'd say that I just don't get nostalgia goggles. I get nostalgic about plenty of things, but I've never had trouble seeing flaws in older games that I love, or even brand new ones that I love. I think it's an interesting exercise to criticize things you are a fan of, for no reason that I can really think of. The only game I've ever played that I literally can't think of any criticisms for is the first Portal, which as you'll notice is not in my Top 3. How good or bad a game is isn't some mathematical formula. It's always greater than the sum of its parts. Anyways, lets-a go. First off, the combat is actually better than I remembered. I don't know if I was somehow screwing it up back when I first played it, but somehow I had more fun this time. Getting chain staggered by the Yappy Little Shit-type monsters is still annoying, and so is the way that beasts (Boars especially for some reason) spend about 85% of a fight running around in a three mile radius around me in what I swear is a deliberate attempt to waste my time. Seriously, why are those bastards so annoying to fight? Anyways, kinda went off on a tangent there. The boss fights are mostly fun, although there is definitely some hit detection fuckery going on occasionally. Nothing major. Deftly dodging around in pirouettes like some murderous pasty-faced ballerina was really satisfying when everything went according to plan. Might be that part of my newfound enjoyment of the combat came from the fact that I actually went through the trouble of preparing for fights this time around. I'd research enemy weaknesses, craft oils, potions, and bombs. I think this whole mechanic makes each monster hunt feel a little bit more special than just running into a cave and going apeshit on whatever piece of wildlife happens to be living there. The Fantasy Sherlock Holmes thing is still fantastic, and in my opinion is probably the best part of the game. Or maybe I should say that the quests are the best part of the game. It still absolutely staggers me how it's possible to make a game with this much content and have almost none of it feel like filler. Seriously, like 98% of the quests in the game have at least some little twist to them that make them interesting and worth doing. This is in stark contrast to another game I love, Skyrim, where a huge number of the quests are basically ripped straight out of any dime-a-dozen MMO with objectives like "Go to cave, kill bandits". Weirdly, I think decently sized stretches of the main quest are some of the weaker parts, which is not to say that they are bad by any stretch of the imagination. It's just that Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine are so unbefuckinglievably good that some of those main quest bits feel kind of "meh" in comparison. HoS and B&W are possibly the two greatest gaming expacs ever created, which really is saying something. Incidentally, I think B&W is the better expac overall, but I honestly prefer the story of HoS. It's incredibly creepy, and Olgierd is a great, super charismatic character. Not all the quests are great though. Some of the "party" quests dragged on quite a bit more than I remembered, with a particular standout being the one with Vlodimir von Everec inhabiting your body. The concept is great, but god almighty it drags on for about twice as long as it needed to. Also, as much as I love the monster hunts, there are some that feel really low effort. Go to site, follow tracks, kill monster. Fair enough though, with this many quests, there are bound to be a few weaker entries in the bunch. The Narrative overall is still brilliant, no changes there. It's a really, really well crafted story. Not one that's "good for a video game" (as is often the case with games, lets be honest... ), but just straight up really good, no qualifying statements needed. It's rare for a game to keep me up at night because I want to know what happens next, and it's even rarer for that to happen when I already know what happens. W3 is one of those games. I know what happens, but I still want to see it happen again. As stated above, I think HoS is the best story to be found in W3, and that's what I thought during my first playthrough as well. The characters are well crafted too. Geralt is without a doubt one of the greatest characters in gaming history. The supporting cast is mostly excellent too, with Ciri and Yennefer being particular favorites of mine. I really liked how you could see just how desperate Yennefer was getting about finding Ciri, and how she resorted to somewhat extreme measures to get her to safety. Not a lot to say about the narrative, in all honesty. I remembered it being great, and it was. The world design itself... I honestly have to admit I remembered it being a bit more lively than this. Velen in particular is somehow really... featureless, with not much there to be interested in. Don't get me wrong, it still looks brilliant, some of the prettiest trees and skies I've ever seen in gaming, but there's really not much geographically interesting going on there. This, incidentally, is one of the few areas in which I think Skyrim still reigns supreme. Whatever other flaws that game has (and it definitely has them), it's still the King when it comes to "pick a direction and start walking, stumble upon all sorts of awesome shit". To be fair though, Skyrim is much more of a "pure" open world game, whereas W3 is basically a narrative game that happens to take place in an open world. Different areas of focus, you know? Don't get me wrong though, W3 does have some areas that still blow me away. Skellige has some awesome sights and features, and Novigrad and Beauclair are up there with Saint Denis in Red Dead 2 as the best crafted cities in gaming history, in my opinion at least. Finally, and this is the one thing that really surprised me: the dialogue. I remembered it being fantastic, but... it just kind of isn't. It's not bad, it's not terrible... but there are great bits and honestly just bad bits, all of which adds up to the dialogue being overall just sort of "okay". I don't know if there's a term for this, but... you know the kind of dialogue that reads perfectly well on paper, but sounds awkward and unnatural when spoken out loud? Whatever that's called, I think W3 has quite a lot of it. Stuff that just made me think ".. on, people don't actually talk like that to eachother". That, and some of the lines are honestly just hokey and ridiculous. Voice acting? Overall it's great. There are some notable weak spots, like Morkvarg (and really Werewolves in general). Morkvargs voice acting is pretty silly to begin with, but for godssake, couldn't they dub in some actual wolf or bear growls in between dialogue, instead of telling the voice actor to growl himself? As it is, it doesn't sound like a monster making those noises, but like a dude in a booth making silly noises. I also do have to mention Letho. This might rub some people up the wrong way, but for real: it sounds like a Welshman trying and failing to do a Southern US accent, which is probably because that's exactly what it is. I'm sorry, but this was the only bit of acting in the game that actively made me wince upon hearing it. I should say though, my disappointment with the dialogue not being as good as I remembered probably has a lot to do with non-Witcher related things, namely Red Dead Redemption 2, which I've played through 2. 5 times in the last year. Red Dead 2 absolutely blows every other game I've ever played out of the goddamn water when it comes to dialogue, characterization and voice acting, and I will die on this hill. As such, the dialogue in pretty much every other game I've played is bound to come off worse in comparison. Oh, and RDR2 also has vastly superior facial hair customization. Why the fuck can't Geralt have ONLY a moustache?! That soul patch is horrendous. Anyways, in the final analysis, W3 didn't disappoint after the four or so years it's been since I finished my first run. It's sitting very securely in my Top 3 and I can't really see anything unseating it any time soon, at least not in this sub-genre of gaming. Cyberpunk sounds cool, but I'll be honest I'm mostly interested in it because it's CDPR. I am hoping that TES6 blows me away when it comes out, but we'll just have to see. My basic mode is cautious optimism, but Bethesda has certainly given me plenty of reasons be cautious in recent years. There, thanks for reading.
