I dont want to see this, theyve turned it into a light cliche romance when that wasnt the point of the book. I dont see the raw reality and emotions of what they both were going through. The boy doesnt look edgy at all, like different/bad news like he was supposed to in the book. Ellie fanning is pretty but she lacks depth in every character Ive ever seen her play. Idk I wish they would do the movie justice and find a director that would focus around the topics it was really focused on in the book which was depression and suicide instead. Blood on her name rotten tomatoes.
Blood on her name movie. Clockwise R to L: Blood On Her Name; Swallow; 1BR; Ode To Nothing; Blood & Flesh Photo: Fantasia Film Festival As anyone who’s spent longer scrolling through a streaming service’s library than actually watching something on said service knows, there’s just too much goddamn content these days. And while the sheer number of genre movies currently being produced around the world is a sign of a healthy ecosystem, it’s also an intimidating task to try to keep up. That’s particularly true for Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival, which The A. V. Club attended for a weekend earlier this month; this year’s festival included more than 130 feature films, and although we’ve been back in Chicago for a couple of weeks now, we’ve also been busy remotely catching up with films from North America’s biggest genre-film showcase. Here are five worth keeping an eye on. Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death Of Al Adamson Cult-movie distributor Severin Films’ new documentary Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death Of Al Adamson ? is a particularly delightful watch in the wake of Once Upon A Hollywood, living as it does in the wild world of cheap-o biker movies and self-taught stuntmen on the fringes of the film industry in the late 1960s. (Spahn Movie Ranch, and its most infamous tenants, also make an appearance. ) The first half of the documentary is fun and lively, chronicling B-movie director Al Adamson’s career trajectory from Westerns through biker flicks and horror mash-ups to bizarre kids’ movies and X-rated musicals, as well as Adamson’s many personal eccentricities and ingenious scams. (He was notorious for re-releasing the same movie three or more times under different tiles, for example. ) Then the doc takes a grisly turn towards true crime?the details of which can be found online, but we won’t spoil here. It all ends rather abruptly, but that’s just because we could live in this movie’s world forever. Availability: Severin has yet to announce a theatrical or home-video date for Blood & Flesh, but has been posting regular updates about the film on Twitter and Facebook. Blood On Her Name The latest film from up-and-coming sales agent Yellow Veil Films?whose inaugural title, Luz, is in select theaters now?should be on the top of the list for fans of moody, gritty rural neo-noirs like Blue Ruin and Cold In July. Like those films, Blood On Her Name ? grapples with weighty themes of revenge, the American prison system, and cycles of poverty and addiction. Unlike those films, it’s female-led, and star Bethany Anne Lind commands the screen in a layered performance as mechanic and single mom Leigh Tiller. In the film’s opening scene, Leigh is standing in her auto garage with a bloody tool in her hand, a dead body on the floor, and a growing feeling of panic. What she does next is unexpected, morally complex, and alive with tension. Availability: No firm plans for a release just yet, but you can follow Yellow Veil on Twitter and Facebook for updates. Swallow Photo: Fantasia Film Festival Carlo Mirabella-Davis’ feature debut Swallow would be worth recommending if it was simply an impeccably shot meditation on upper-class ennui of the Feminine Mystique variety. That being said, it’s much more than that. Starring the underappreciated Haley Bennett as Hunter, a Connecticut housewife whose sterile modernist castle of a home feels more like a prison every day, Swallow posits the exotic eating disorder Pica?a compulsive condition marked by an overwhelming desire to eat non-food items?as a radical feminist metaphor. It does so with elegant restraint, all the better to contrast with the horrifying visual of someone swallowing a thumb tack (and an earring, and a battery, and... ). Availability: Swallow was recently picked up for distribution by IFC Films, which is planning a theatrical release for next year. It’s also set to screen at this year’s Fantastic Fest. 1BR When Sarah (Nicole Brydon Bloom) first moves into an L. A. apartment complex where people actually seem to care about their neighbors, any denizen of a major city will think they know where 1BR is going. And it is?for a little while. What’s interesting about writer-director David Marmor’s feature debut is the fact that, 45 minutes in, the film reaches what would be the natural end point of most horror movies about cults. Then it keeps going. Real-life details culled from ex-members’ accounts of life in groups like Scientology and NXIVM give the film an edgy ripped-from-the-headlines quality, as well as reinforcing the sheer L. of it all. If you enjoyed The Invitation, keep this one on your radar. Availability: 1BR is an independent project that screened during Fantasia’s Frontiéres Co-Production Market. It’s still searching for a distributor. Ode To Nothing (Oda Sa Wala) The most excitingly original film The A. Club saw at this year’s Fantasia was Ode To Nothing, the second feature from Filipino indie auteur Dwein Baltazar. The film probes taboos around death and dead bodies, but in a sublimely compassionate way that defies titillation an d only increases our sympathy for its profoundly lonely protagonist. That would be Sonya (Marietta Subong), the fortysomething owner of a failing funeral home who lives with her elderly father, but might as well be all alone. Shot to look like a faded photograph and punctuated with long periods of silence and stillness, Ode To Nothing casts such an enthralling spell that when it takes a turn towards the lightly surreal, it also takes on the intangible aura of a half-remembered dream. Availability: Ode To Nothing was released in the Philippines last October, but has yet to find North American distribution. I would 100% recommend reading the book before the movie, its amazing.

Blood on Her Name starts with a murder. Maybe manslaughter. Or perhaps, something in between. All we know for sure is, when this thriller starts, Leigh Tiller ( Bethany Anne Lind) has a dead body to dispose of, a son to protect, and secrets to keep. And she’s completely out of her league, lacking the forensic skills and, worse, moral ambivalence to get the job done clean. A lowkey thrill ride that builds steady, quiet tension,? Blood on Her Name? thrives when it focuses on how utterly unprepared the average human is to do dirty deeds. Over the course of a tight 83-minute run time, director Matthew Pope (who also co-wrote with? Don M. Thompson) follows a fumbling everywoman trying to do the right thing, watching her devolve into a mess of conflicting stories, barely concealed panic, and resurfacing trauma. In her pre-corpse life, Leigh spent her days as the not-particularly-proud owner of an auto garage where her convict ex-husband used to do shady dealings. Saddled with that stigma and struggling to keep her humble business afloat, the single mother panics in her moment of crisis. With a dead body on her floor, she makes the regretful decision not to call the police and spends the next 80 minutes regretting that decision every step of the way. Image via Yellow Veil Pictures But it’s her first moment of regret that gets her in the most trouble. When she realizes the body belongs to a family, she can’t face the guilt of leaving them without answers. So she gives the body back, like a total clown. You know what they say about good intentions, and? Blood on Her Name makes for a refreshing thriller because the lead character constantly paves her own road to hell by consistently making terrible decisions. But for completely understandable reasons. She is, essentially, decent and that’s what dooms her from the start. Indies have long been home to solid thrillers; all you need is good performances, a tight script, intriguing mystery, and a solid sense of timing ? all of which can be done of the cheap.? Blood on Her Name is right at home in that pantheon, lean and unadorned, but well-made, with a sharp eye for the small moments that can change, ruin, or end a life. The biggest problem is that indie thrillers are so prolific, it’s? really really? hard to make one that feels new.? Blood on Her Name never quite clears that hurdle. You’ve probably seen a few versions of this movie before. But for a few inspired moments in the scripting, there’s an undeniable familiarity to it all, and no matter how many see-through lies Leigh spins, you always have a good sense of where the film’s going from beat-to-beat. Fortunately, Pope does nice work baking that in, which means that if? Blood on Her Name? sometimes feels like re-treading familiar territory, it also conjures a steady sense of dread. You don’t want to go down that road because you know what’s waiting for you and it’s not good. And that feeling only intensifies as Leigh continues to pull the walls in on herself, building her own trap with each lie or spasm of honesty, both of which she always seems to deploy in the exact wrong moment. Pope also pulls some great performers out of his cast, and the film is at its best when it leans on their strengths, particularly as the threads weave together in the final act. Lind is subtle but compelling as Leigh; alternately icy and over-expressive with the slow-boiling panic of fear underneath.? Will Patton also gets a nice turn as her estranged father, the local sheriff whose position of power never quite offers the amount of comfort it should since he comes with his own heavy baggage.? Elisabeth Röhm also has some standout moments as the hard but grieving girlfriend of the deceased. Like the beats, the themes here will feel familiar to any fan of the genre. Crime is hard, humans are foolish and flawed creatures, revenge is messy, and guilt can be a killer. The classics.? Blood on Her Name is most effective when it digs into those themes and what they mean for the characters, and a bit less effective when it relies on the murder mystery angle. By the time we meet Leigh, the “why” doesn’t really matter. All she cares about is “what now? ” and the film absolutely delivers every time it focuses on that question. The actions themselves aren’t all that interesting, but the consequences are spectacular. A slow-burn thriller that eventually sparks into something special,? Blood on Her Name takes some patience. Not just because of the stillness and steady pacing, but because Leigh can be a downright moron about her circumstances. But honestly, that’s why I like the movie so much. Thrillers are all about putting average characters in over their heads, but rarely are those characters so devastatingly bad at crime as this poor woman. It’s actually a very endearing and refreshing character turn in the end; a good lady in a bad situation, with none of the skills it takes to get herself out of it with grace. And that feels more honest, too. Most of us aren’t Liam Neeson. We’d absolutely botch an attempted murder cover-up, just like she does, and it’s fascinating to watch as Leigh just keeps shoveling. That’s a lot more intriguing than another steely protagonist with shockingly good aim and it’s what keeps? Blood on Her Name a gripping watch, even through the weaker moments. It might not be a winning mystery, but it is an evocative story of crime and punishment, choice and consequence, cycles of violence, and human failing. Rating: B- Blood on Her Name ?made its world premiere at the 2019 Fantasia International Film Festival.

Blood on her name movie 2019. Omg Jackson Rathbone. I love his Horror and Psycho Movies. He is so gorgeous at these kind of Movies. People from Final Destination be like: “Why does it say -21 minutes?”. Blood on her name embargo. Blood on Her name change. Blood on her name film. @lakku totally agree. Moral of the story never fall in love with a guy named joe. Nothing really new here, but it’s still good. How many movies have you seen where someone does something very bad, and then spends the rest of the film trying to cover it up, only to get into more and more trouble on the way? It’s a pretty tried and true plot. There isn’t anything exactly wrong with going that direction, obviously since we’ve seen it so many times. But it also makes it harder for such a story to make a mark for itself. That’s the essential problem facing Blood On Her Name. Matthew Pope’s modest film opens on Leigh (Bethany Anne Lind) hovering over a recently deceased body. She is clearly not happy about this turn of events. She wraps the body and takes it to a pond for dumping but her conscience gets the better of her and she decides to anonymously return it to the dead guy’s people rather than have them think he ran off. And really, her problems begin there. Not so much with the murder, but with the feeling bad about it. At only 83 minutes, there isn’t a ton to Blood On Her Name, but it takes a while to get going all the same. The first half-hour requires its protagonist to act shifty toward and lie to the entire support cast, making it hard to get into her corner. Its mystery structure doesn't help much either, as the audience is left guessing nearly as much as the other characters.?It’s only once the plot opens up in the second act that things get interesting. The entire film rests on Lind’s shoulders, though she does get help from Will Patton in a nice supporting role. Lind is great in the film. She plays Leigh’s alternating iciness and warmth, as well as her many layers of tension and fear, very well, especially since she spends nearly the entire film lying to people. And I don’t think she’s supposed to be playing a smart character, which is the most interesting choice this film makes (and it could also be total conjecture on my part). It doesn’t seem all that hard to get away with murder in Leigh’s backwoods town. Yet she screws it up at every turn. But even then it’s not certain because everyone else is very stupid as well. It can be frustrating at times, watching all these missteps seemingly for the same of plot and tension, but by the time we fully understand the crime and how it actually happened, we’re more or less invested in Leigh’s plight. Oddly, Blood On Her Name reminded me most of a Sundance movie called The Death of Dick Long. Both are about pretty dumb people in a small town dealing with a death they’d like to keep secret. They mean well, but keep getting in their own way. The primary difference is Dick Long is a comedy filled with a variety of colorful characters who all kind of have their own thing going on. Blood On Her Name is deathly serious and focused only on one subject. That’s not a bad thing necessarily, but in this case, there is a sense of identity the film lacks as a result. Evan Saathoff Senior Editor Evan has been smartassing-up the Internet since 2008. His passions include dumb action movies, not-dumb action movies, Shakespeare, and Tyler Perry. While he claims to understand that people don't always get what they want, he nevertheless believes it would be “cool” if he could become more like Danny DeVito with age.

Posted on May 25, 2015 Codename: Youngblood Full Name: Eddy Patrick Faction: Blood Watch Aroostook County, Maine, a rotting farmhouse. The giant rambling building was overgrown with ivy and lit up by flashes of lightning splitting the purple-black sky. Its ancient decaying form sat alone amongst vast sprawling fields and gently rolling hills. Standing defiantly against cold driving rain, members of the Blood Watch looked on at the forbidding house before them. For those gathered Supremes, the house was a festering sore in this Maine hinterland. Waiting for V. H. ’s signal, Six Feet Under slapped the shaft of his shovel into his left hand, and Blacksmith tightened his grip on his mighty hammer. Ace cocked his pistol in readiness. Moon Coyote loped around behind them, scanning a route to encircle the house, and Blood Rose prepared her mind to transport her Team-mates to their quarry. Battle lay ahead, and the Blood Watch was ready. What followed was bloody and brutal. The supernatural Supremes stormed the house. Immediately they found what they had sought ? a nest of vampires! However the number of blood-suckers surpassed what their intelligence had indicated. From every room poured their enemies, vampires of every type: Carpathians, nosferatu, dhampir, jiangshi, strzyga and countless other variations. This was more than a mere nest, it was a conclave. No quarter was given. As one undead fell to the Heroes, another flew forward, their forms turning to dust, ashes or flame as each was vanquished without hesitation. Slowly but surely, the Blood Watch turned the tide back, their wounds healed by Blood Rose as they fought relentlessly. With dawn approaching, the Heroes had to corner the last of the undead to stop them escaping. One by one those who remained were dispatched until just a few were left, trapped in the dimly lit cellar beneath the house. Blacksmith, Ace and V. cautiously made their way down the wooden stairs, too narrow to accommodate Six Feet Under’s bulk. Two hissing clawed fiends who leapt from the gloom were dispatched with sword and ghostly bullets. Blacksmith then noticed a flicker of movement. He pointed to the back of the dank chamber where there was a stack of coffins. The three advanced, ready for any threat. As they approached they could hear a faint mewling, a fearful whimper. Blacksmith smashed the coffins aside with a powerful swing of him hammer. Of all the things he and his allies expected to see, it was not the sight in front of them. A child-like vampire, looking no more than seven years old, terror in his eyes as the three Supremes towered over him. Ace of Wraiths cocked his pistol and Blacksmith drew back his hammer to bring it down in one fatal blow. “No, ” said V. firmly, her tone brooking no challenge, “This child will not go the way of the rest. We had a responsibility to vanquish their evil, and we have. This one is a legacy of that darkness, but we can give him a chance to escape that fate. We take him with us. ” Ace and Blacksmith looked on, surprised and concern battling within both of them as V. reached out to the youngling, picking him up as he wrapped his arms around her neck. … Is evil born or is it made? Is a 5-year old with vampiric powers a threat or a responsibility? The Blood Watch chose to believe the latter. Unable to slay the young vampire, V. believes that if brought up and supervised properly, Youngblood will add much-needed survivability and strength to the Team’s repertoire. What nobody says out loud however, is that if Youngblood’s powers and hunger are only supernaturally suppressed by one of Blacksmith’s talismans. What happens if that is not enough? The Blood Watch observes carefully, as Youngblood has begun to mature physically and psychologically, his deathless lack of aging suppressed partly by the artefact he now carries with him. << Back to Heroes and Villains Posted on March 4, 2013 Code-name: V. H. Full Name: Victoria van Helsing Dear Quincey, I am glad that I managed to finally catch up with you. I am sorry for the London mansion. You know it had to burn. I hope the insurance covers it, and if not, do not worry, as your head will soon be stuffed with garlic and burnt as well. I have been told that you have been very inquisitive about whom I am, and that you tried to track me down after our first brush in Geneva. Since we will probably never meet eye-to-eye (my teachers did a good job of letting me know how playing with fiends like you may end), I am taking this opportunity to let you know who your killer will be. We have actually met twice already. The first time, about twenty years ago, was when you graciously slaughtered my family; you and your minions. You thought there were only three children and that was your first fatal mistake. I hid in ice cold water, under the stone bridge, nearly freezing to death. Your heat-seeking vision could not find me. I will keep things brief ? it is like the stories you see in movies. While the Order of the Forge (you know them ? you were responsible for the death of their Paris chapter) could not stop you, they were decent enough to save me and train me, and to channel my hatred for you into a set of skills that got me to where I am now. I spent fifteen long years studying fiends, outsiders and horrors of the night. I know how to kill all of you. Five of those years I was doing my ? as you may call it in the corporate world you fell so much in love with ? internship, in the Order’s Hong Kong chapter. I passed my final test with flying colors. I beheaded the shadow oni that had replaced the prime minister of a certain country and sent his head to the biggest national television station. To my disappointment, they claimed he committed ritual suicide. Then I returned to Europe and started tracking you. That was not too hard, as your lifestyle is pretty extravagant and you like to part with your money. You also play too much to who your parents were etc. They should have killed you, you little leech, when you were still in the cradle. That poor fool, your father, kept hoping until the very end that you were his true son. In a carnal way, perhaps yes you were. However, you were the offspring of the bad blood ‘big D’ left in your mother’s system. But back to the story; I followed the money trail, yes, and that led me to Royal Investments. I then I realized you are not just a bloodsucker, but you are also conspiring against this world with the dead from another dimension (yay, more cadavers to behead! ). We have met in Geneva of course, but I had one year less of experience then. I should have known that surrounded by your ‘friends’ and other associates, you would leave them like a lizard leaving its tail to escape. Fast forward one year, to today, and we are bound to meet again; however this time, I am much better prepared. You are in my trap. So make it easy for all of us and just die. Sorry if I could not answer all of your questions and clear any doubts. Love, Victoria van Helsing PS: I am glad that we are sending these good-old fashioned letters. Even for a gal like me, who grew up in the farms of Midlands (I know you, with your cold blue blood find the idea of such open spaces atrocious), reverting to the old ways that my great-great-grandfather and your parents used to stay in touch with each other is very refreshing. PPS: Now slowly turn around. Good night, fiend. Posted on October 8, 2012 Code-name: Moonchild/Moon Coyote Full Name: Maria Moonchild The story of Moonchild begins with the Arrajo tribe; a small Native American tribe that had suffered for more than a century and half, and which came to reside on part of a reservation jointly held with the Avaje, approximately fifty miles north-east of Pulp City. Today, the reservation casinos are a tourist attraction on the Avaje part of the site. This success has led to some improvement in quality of life on the reservation, although this has not been shared between the two tribes as the Arrajo have shunned this new way. For the past two decades the Arrajo had suffered the threat of possibly dying out, as no boys had been born among the tribe’s offspring in that time. Marcus Moonchild recognized that some dark force had accursed his people and had led to the tribe producing no boys. He committed all of his abilities as tribal medicine man to combatting that malignancy. He also sought to train his daughter Maria to become the first female shaman of the Arrajo. It was clear to Marcus that whatever the source of the curse was, it was on his tribe alone, as the Avaje with whom they shared the reservation suffered no such problems. From that recognition he was determined that the curse would be broken, and so set to instructing his daughter in the skills she would need to continue his efforts should he fail or fall. Thus, from a young age Maria learned her father’s shamanic secrets. Years went by, and after her father’s passing, and her coming of age, it was through ritual in the sweat lodge that she finally discovered the origin of the curse that her father had believed to afflict the tribe. Joined in her ritual by the lodge leader, a tribal elder, the two women sat in darkness as smoke swirled around and heat enveloped them. The lodge leader chanted and drummed while Maria freed her mind of earthly constraints. Maria’s vision in that smoke-filled construction revealed images of a black crow demon spreading plague wings over the people of Arrajo. Despite her skills and knowledge, Maria knew she was unable to fight this dark beast. As her vision came to an end the screaming crow flew at the teenager and the elder, talons stretched out to rake them both. The vision ended suddenly and Maria was awake, alert and unharmed, but shaken by the experience. As she looked around she saw the lodge leader lying prone, dead, her face stricken with anguish. The following night saw Maria nervously enter the sweat lodge again, this time alone with no-one to
