It's here and I'm thrilled in London and in England and yeah, it seems to only be yesterday that we started shooting and now we're here how long has that story that your Granddad's told you been percolating as an idea for a film. Well, I suppose to be stayed in me since I was told that we should probably about 40 years ago, but as a movie probably in the last two or three years. I thought it was a story that wouldn't let me go on. Although the movie is not about my granddad, it's because of my granddad and those stories really, you know created a fascination in this war for me and and I was very lucky to be able to make a very personal film. we'll have a fantastic time to save at the law firm Performance. We worked together on Spectrum and we did a play in New York before so it was really some, but also this sort of incredibly innovative way of. Making the film so yeah, it's very exciting evening. You mentioned that the innovative filming techniques how did that affect you as an actor was it tricky? yeah, it's pretty daunting. You know you have to get it right. Usually you rely on pickups or you know. editing to if you make a mistake or or whatever happens like you usually do on film making days you can rely on on picking stuff up with this. You have to have a perfect take right from the start. So it's a little bit like live theater, which a lot of the actors in the in the movie are are experienced with. It was thrilling absolutely thrilling well, you're absolutely nailed it. Thanks very much. enjoy serious Rick. Thank you so much. Thank you. Hanging out with George McCoy. How are you? yeah really well? Thank you really well. Have you seen the film yet I have yeah I saw it finally finished last week an exciting to be here. Hometown Premier World Premiere How you feeling. I'm I'm just thrilled. I'm here with my family. so it's yeah. it's it's really lovely all been here together. It's an amazing on stumble cast, but it's fair to say that the your part is carrying it. really. It's quite daunting. Yeah I. It was the most mutual experience I've ever had on a job and just with you know the way that we shot it in a way that sound worked. and with that, you know the one take there was never a lead element in anything. it was always everyone working together to get the story across I just hope he didn't mess up as well. Yeah, just fingers cross you don't miss out. when I enjoyed the evening with your family. Thanks very much grateful. Thank you very much. cheers. Mister Daniel. How are you very well? How are you? I'm very well? Indeed. Thank you are you excited to be at this from you very excited. It's just this. I saw the film on Sunday for the first time. so I'm genuinely double excited for seeing it again. It's it's an amazing piece of work. It really is it genuinely is are you are you a cry? I'm not normally I I said that's it. I am I must have cried about three times during the course of the film. I mean I remember crying the first time. Script and it seriously doesn't disappoint. so I mean that's the great thing about the film along with all the technical side of things and the cinematography and and how amazing all that stuff is. I think parallel to that is the emotional impact that the film carries and that's obviously there's Dan over there. Dana and George absolutely spellbinding in the in the lead role so it it It works on every level and that came through just on the first reading the script of it for me. Yeah, I mean I. Remember when I got to the end of the script, so I was a sopping mess. Yes, so I think I'm a bit of a cry. Well, I have a little cry. I got this evening and enjoy yourself. I'll pretty much issue. Cheers. Oh he plays Lance Corporal Blake in the film. Please give a warm lessons square welcome. It's a fantastic Dean-Charles Chapman. Sherman. How are you? I'm good? How are you doing very well? Indeed? Thank you well Premiere. Have you feel how you feeling I feel nervous but I'm really happy that it's just you know like me on Town Square in London. It's good good. It's good night and if you've seen it, I have I've seen too rough cuts and I've seen the actual final cut twice now so technically four times. Yeah, I enjoyed every time yes and I cried. I cried like a baby, I really did it. I'm not crying you know what as well. Obviously, I know you know HBA what you know about the jump scare bits and even now like four times in and I know everything about the film still gets me and I I didn't like laughing when you laugh and cry when he cries. It's good. That's a good sign. how soon after you audition. Did you get the good news that you're gonna be in it well, I think free auditions into the first audition was with the cast and director of the second audition was with Sam and then the third audition was me and. And Sam and then it was on two free weeks later, Yeah and I got a phone call when I was just the best day of my life ever pretty pretty intense. It's pretty demanding as an actor that the way it was shot. I mean, yeah emotionally and physically we did six months preparation of rehearsals before we start shooting and as an actor, that's you know very rare. Normally you just step on set and you start giving it a go. Where is this. We have a lot of time to sort of live and breathe the characters before we actually started shooting but it's just. Many different layers to what we did, you know a lot we did. you know rehearsing just to say along the sets when they need to be rehearsals with the director made George, you know, dialect coaching military training physical training. It was a long process, but every single second of it. I really learned a lot and I loved it we

This is hands down one of the greatest war movies to ever hit the silver screen along with being very unique. The hell of the WWI battlefield is a subject that hasn't been covered in a long time and Mr. Mendes executes this perfectly. A movie like this couldn't have been made 50 years ago but with today's advances in film making along with a large studio budget Mr. Mendes takes us through an adventure every bit as harrowing as Saving Private Ryan and Thin Red Line.
The use of the single shot was brilliant as it brings the viewer along in the trenches and further adds to the realism to the film. I was surprised to hear that this was gimmicky effect from some critics, I feel Mr. Mendes nailed it brilliantly with the help of some fantastic cinematography. The set pieces were so realistic and detailed, a lesser director would've focused more on them but for this ride the camera never stops moving and it's a benefit to the film. There was no slow part in the movie and the audience is enthralled with the journey from the first minute of the film. The dialogue was great and certainly was a key component of making the single shot method work here. There is no pointless exposition in the movie. This isn't a piece to glorify war but rather demonstrate how one can be brave all the while showing their vulnerabilities and fear that any normal person would feel in that type of situation. There are no gratuitous bits in the film to exemplify heroism, just a simple story that allows the characters to shine and define bravery on their own terms. From the acting, to the score, to the cinematography, editing and overall direction of the film Mr. Mendes absolutely knocked it out of the park. This isn't just one of the best war movies of all time, I believe it's truly one of the best pieces of film to ever grace the big screen. 1917 will leave you breathless and for many like myself, in tears when the journey comes to and end. Bravo.

(puts down milk) That's a GREAT idea, Kato. just found that funny for some reason. I also like that little leg-snap that Bruce does as he picks himself obably putting a joint back into place. Doesn't even complain. I know this portrayal had some severe liberties taken with Lee, but at least they added that bit of determination.
The film's linearity is actually it's weakness, there's zero suspense because of that. 8/10.
