This is a documentary-actually, a promotional commercial-of Bruce Springsteen's new album called 'Western Stars. First of all, let me say that I am not a Bruce Springsteen fan. He has a few songs that I like but the majority of his music is just not my type. However, my wife really likes him and that was the main reason I went to see it. But, I think she was under the impression that Bruce would be doing a greatest hits concert or something-boy, was she disappointed. He does do a cover song near the end but it is a country song by Glen Campbell. In between each song, Bruce talks about how he came to write the songs. He performs them in a barn that he owns on a ranch-he said that it has good acoustics-where he is living the cowboy life. He even walks around wearing a cowboy hat and riding horses, so he must be a real cowboy. There is also some old footage of Bruce's life growing up-before he became a cowboy-that is sometimes shown between the songs. I guess if you are a big fan of Bruce's music, you might like it more than I did, but even my wife-I mentioned that she is a big fan-did not enjoy it that much. She thought it was boring and there were only a few songs that she liked-one was the Glen Campbell one. It's rated "PG" for use of alcohol, smoking and language and has a running time of 1 hour & 23 minutes. It's not one that I would buy on DVD. I wouldn't rent it either. Unless you are a dedicated fan, I would wait until it hits cable.

I think Bruce is still learning of life, through good times, and depression, and still he takes you on a journey, with every song he writes, you can hear in his voice, the sadness, and still wanting sunshine in his life, when your the Boss sometimes you walk alone, even with a wife and kids, maybe we have to look at people close to us, from a different prospective every day, because we get so used to them, we should see them in a different light, and keep renewing that love, I think that's the sadness that Bruce is capturing in this song.

I'm hooked* One of the greatest. I bought the limited edition blue vinyl (European pressing) without having heard even 1 song. I had seen a couple of positive comments based on the songs released on line prior to the album being available. I don't think I have ever been happier with a blind purchase. The packaging and pressings are beautiful as are all the songs. Is he channeling Jimmy Webb via Glen Campbell as well as the Man in Black? Absolutely. Is this a bad thing? Absolutely not. Bruce Springsteen to me is America's best poet laureate, story teller, musician and rocker. He speaks to us in the language of our hearts. This newest album is a prime example of what and who he Boss! I know he does not like being called that but he is the boss! In the world we live in it is good to have things you count on. I count on Bruce to keep the narrative of our lives moving forward. Bruce does this in such a beautiful, emotional and intelligent way. I grew up with man. He has never let me down. Springsteen can bring tears to my eyes with his haunting telling of what happens in our inner soul. He speaks directly to that secret passion in me so often I know it is not a fluke. His music touches me personally and I struggle to explain the connection. It is not fair to say his music gets better with age because his past music holds up so well, so instead I will say the Boss abides and follows the path of lonely cowboys past their prime, teenagers growing up and anxious to get away from their hometown, wrecked and wretched wrestlers who have squandered their lives, AIDS victims that faced certain death, secret gardens of those struggling to still believe and keep faith, powerful passions that almost cannot be controlled, rebuilding a crumbled life, city or heart, the struggle to be good and do the right things, standing up against those in power, being afraid of finding love, being ready to find love and so many other themes. Every single one of them is meaningful to me. Every single one of them speaks to me. If he only created for me he would have done something special but I know many others have similar experiences with his music. There is both breadth and depth in his narratives I find so consistently in few others. Thank you Bruce Springsteen for reaching down deep and having the strength of character to try and tell the world what it is like to feel deeply and live with the repercussions of our emotions, decisions and lives! I know this may not make a lot sense but to a few romantics, cynics and humanist it will all make sense. Or something like that.
