It has been labelled “one of the most devastating films ever about anything. ” Background to the film Come and See (Иди и смотри / Idi i smotri) is a harrowing Soviet war movie directed by Elem Klimov in 1985. The film is based on the 1978 novel, I Am from the Fiery Village (Я из огненной деревни / Ya iz ognennoj Derevni) by Ales Adamovich. Together Klimov and Adamovich wrote the film’s screenplay. The film has come to be considered one of the greatest war films of all time. The best way to describe it is that it’s an amazing film that will ruin your day. It’s just one of the most devastating movies there is. So, be warned ? Come and See is not of the same ilk as Klimov’s other most famous movie, the uproarious comedy, Welcome, or No Trespassing. The way in which Come and See was made gives some indication to how horrific it is to view. The shoots were dangerous ? real flamethrowers and real bullets were used just feet away from actors. These difficult scenes changed the actors considerably over the course of filming. Aleksei Kravchenko, who played the lead, Flyora, as a 13-year-old, developed a full head of grey hair and wrinkles during the nine months of filming. Come and See plot Hell on earth Come and See is so nightmarish that it depicts an earthly hell. In fact, the film’s name is an allusion to the refrain from the Book of Revelation and its description of the apocalypse. This view of the Second World War as an apocalypse fundamentally distinguishes the movie from previous works of Soviet war cinema. They would traditionally present the events of the war in either a heroic or lyrical manner. Klimov, however, presents a view of the war as a world of madness and demonic possession. Not only people, but also animals are drawn into this horror. We see a stork soaked in the rain, standing motionless in the forest. It has nowhere to go and no one to fly to with glad tidings. Later, we witness the dying spasms of a cow ripped apart by a machine gun. The film attacks every sense possible, including sound. The loud crashing of bombing and gunshot deafens your ears. Meanwhile, emaciated human voices appear muffled and distorted by some sort of eternal ringing noise. Ordinary sounds are not safe, as they transform into ominous signs. Flies buzzing becomes a harbinger of a terrible pile of corpses slaughtered in Flyora’s village. Amid the sensory overload of the movie, sometimes a line will jump out that makes your skin crawl. Amid a thunderous cacophony of barking dogs, roaring engines, curdling wails, billowing flamethrowers, and chattering machine guns, a German soldier directly addresses the viewer: “You should not be. It is much more profound than just that. The film’s resolution displays its message of the indestructibility of good and humanity. However, there's more to the scene than Belorussian civilians running through a forest away from SS forces. I'm really not exactly sure why, but even though the outcome of this event is painful and tragic, I still take personal interest to hear stories and watch movies about what occurred during this time of World War II. "Come and See" is a film I strongly recommend to somewhat experience the internal feelings and struggles of any person who was trying to survive this time of Communism.

"Come and See" is a very thought-provoking movie that makes you contemplate, What can make a person cause this pain unto others? It's not necessarily how can Hitler be so cruel to Jews, more like, what caused Hitler to become like this? It really made me think about the latter question instead. "Come and See" is a film that really makes you see how people in a village tried to survive during a time that will always send shivers down our spines no matter how much time has passed since Hitler's time of rule.Big fan of this film awesome to see this version out. This film is a psychological horror drama that evokes the person inside us who wants to fight against evil. It offers a different view point of war in general, of how brutal it can be. While watching this picture, you can't tell yourself 'it's just a movie' because it actually happened.

While watching this picture, you can't tell yourself 'it's just a movie' because it actually happened.
The story follows a coming of age Russian, Flyora, who became a soldier overnight. His mother begs for him to stay at home with her and his two sisters but comes to no avail. He finds himself in the forest, holding down the camp site under the orders of Kosach, his leader. Flyora meets Glasho, a tag-along who longs for Kosach but for the time being, settles with the young soldier. After kissing, laughing, telling stories of old, the forest gets bombed by the German's and they experience heavy artillery fire. Flyora and Glasho make their way to Flora's village. Upon arrival, something is mysteriously wrong and dampening. Flyora's mom, two sisters, and the rest of the village are nowhere to be found. Flyora decides to head towards a nearby island under the suspicion that he'll find his family there. As they leave, Glasho looks back at a house apart of the village and sees multiple bodies piled on each other. After reaching the island, Flyora separates from Glasho to find food and water for the survivors of his village. His journey is cut short by a German invasion of another village. He witnesses hundreds of people who are burned alive and by the slimmest of margins, avoids this tragedy. Kosach and the rest of the soldiers hunt down the Germans and get their revenge. Living through these acts of evil, a part of Flyora has died along with his mom and two sisters (the kid within himself. After bandaging his wounded rifle, he rejoins his troops for the first time, not as a boy, but as a soldier. This films effect on me will last a life time. When Glasho turns back to see the dead bodies piled on each other, I immediately knew I'd never forget it. Most people are aware of how costly World War 2 was, the persecution of the Jews, and the American soldiers that were lost. Requiem for a dream was unlike any film I've ever watched. It was not exactly a horror film, but it was so haunting and so disturbing. Just thinking about it gives me the chills. We watched requiem for a dream in my high school film class and i almost had a breakdown. we skipped the one really intense scene towards the end with the electroshock and the stage orgy, and i'm glad we did. incredible film, though. Bad arss film watched it when it first come out was brilliant and still is very good film. Geh und sieh watchmen.
Restrepo is a documentary. So yeah, it should be realistic
