I watched some of it, but didn't finish watching it. I was wondering, would it be possible for you all to take the full length interview he did with Fern Mallis off private, and allow everyone to watch it? I would sincerely appreciate that. My wife and I have been having problems for years, I refused to admit it to myself, but I knew it. T (my wife) had been increasingly short with me, our intimacy had dropped down to a handful of times a year, and we were generally just miserable. We still loved each other, we just weren't in love with each other. Combine this with her depression, and my PTSD, and disaster was inevitable. A little over a month ago T dropped the bomb that she had found an apartment closer to work and was moving out the following Saturday. I was absolutely gutted to say the least, mostly because I had thus far refused to acknowledge we had a problem. The split was amicable, and I even helped her load the truck. We hugged before she left, and we agreed we shouldn't contact each other for awhile to give ourselves time to cool off. In the weeks that followed we only talked via text a handful of times, mostly about bills and getting her mail to her before her change of address form kicked in. We have an adult daughter who still lives at home, so she became the willing mediator when it came to getting things to T that she forgot, or needed from here. S (our daughter) was a godsend in this. She wasn't taking sides and was always happy to go visit her mother about 30 minutes away. I was a complete mess during this time. My PTSD kicked into overdrive and the nightmares were atrocious, and I was having frequent panic attacks to the point S would have to calm me down. You see T had always been my rock, she could see when I was starting to get worked up, often before I even realized my behavior had changed, and she would calm me down. It had to look something like Black Widow and Hulk in the Marvel movies to anyone watching. With her gone, I didn't have that support and was starting to spiral out of control, and I needed to do something. I eventually had to go groceries shopping, something I dreaded even going with T. To say it was a disaster would be an understatement. I couldn't get out of there fast enough, and ended up spending more than I should have because I wasn't able to pay attention to prices, I just grabbed what was on the list and went. When I got home S, her boyfriend J, and I put the groceries away but I still had to go to another town to get a few more items I couldn't get at the first place. I took a short breather, and went out again. To get where I was going I had to pass a behavioral health center, and without even thinking I just pulled in and signed up for therapy for my PTSD. This was on Monday of that week, my intake appointment was on Wednesday, and my first real session was on Friday of the same week. I was excited and wanted to tell T, so I sent her a message to let her know I was finally seeking help after all these years of just dealing with it, she was very happy for me, and we began to talk via messenger. Just chit chat, but it was wonderful to hear from her, and we began talking every day that week. We eventually made plans to have dinner that Friday so I could bring her some mail that I still had, and to just catch up. Fast forward to Thursday of that week and I get a phone call from her at 10:30 pm, she was full blown bawling and having a panic attack. I talked to her, but it wasn't helping much so she suggested I come over because she just needed me. I was hesitant at first, I didn't even want to know where she lived up to this point to prevent me from making a bad decision and going over there, but she insisted. She gave me her address and off I went. When I arrived she was an absolute mess. We hugged, we cried, and eventually we got her settled down. She told me she had cried like that most nights since she left, but didn't want me to know about it. I was heartbroken that she had done that to herself and not reached out, though I understand why she didn't. I finally left around midnight once she was calmed down and we were laughing and both doing much better. The next night instead of meeting at the restaurant as we had previously agreed, I just went to her apartment and picked her up. Over dinner our eyes were locked, and we held hands across the table. We had a great conversation and really connected for the first time in years. We set some ground rules for dating again which we both agreed would be in our best interest to not mess this up. After dinner we went back to her place where we just sat and talked for hours. We eventually laid down and just cuddled and talked. We cried happy tears, we cried sad tears, and we generally just got lost in each others company, it was amazing. We broke a few of the "rules" we had earlier set out, but not before discussing it first to make sure we were both comfortable with the speed of things. We both agreed everything just felt right, so I ended up staying until 6 am before driving home with a huge smile on my face. I had to work Saturday and my coworkers saw a huge change in me, I believe they even mentioned putting a black bag over my grinning face because it was making them ill LOL. I was genuinely happy for the first time in YEARS. I'm a bartender and I was behind the bar dancing to the music, smiling, laughing, and just feeling light as a feather. S works as a server there and even she was getting sick of me. I got off work around 8 pm and as always I sat at the bar for a little bit to have a drink and just hang out before I walked the three blocks home. As I'm sitting there S enters the bar side of the restaurant followed by T! I was off my bar stool in a hurry and we were hugging, in my head the room was clapping, in reality I think they were barfing:D She sat down next to me and we hung out for a bit and we decided she would take me back to her place for the night (She took the car when she left, and I was using S's when I needed it). Everyone expressed concern that we might be moving too fast and wanted us to think about it. We told them T and I had ultimately come to the decision that on Weekends we would work on us, and during the week we would work on ourselves with no contact other than via phone and messages. S was cautious, but said she could live with that. This past weekend was the second I spent with T and we are behaving like teenagers. We are giddy in each other's presence, we get lost in each others eyes, and yes we are being intimate again. We never really dated when we were younger for reasons which are an entire post to themselves, but we made it work for 23 years, now we have a year (the length of her lease) to work on our personal selves, and our relationship. We haven't felt this way towards each other for a very, very long time. We know that eventually we are going to start to let our everyday lives back into our relationship and that will be the ultimate deciding factor on if we can truly make it or not, but we at least know the love is still there and we have a beautiful foundation to start to rebuild on. We are looking forward to couples counseling sometime this summer to help us mesh the everyday with the "honeymoon" period we are currently experiencing. With a little luck, and a lot of work, we think we can make it. tl;dr: 23 year marriage went to crap, we separated, we are now falling back in love again.
