The Devil We Know is a great documentary about this. Worth a watch or two

James Spader, eh. ?. That haircut looks super woke. Beverly Young Nelson has finally admitted that she forged a portion of the infamous high school yearbook that she and attorney Gloria Allred used as proof of her accusations against U. S. Senate candidate Roy Moore. And in yet another blow to the credibility of ABC News, the disgraced, left-wing network downplayed the bombshell by presenting this admission of forgery as adding “notes” to the inscription. Worse still, the reporter actually coaches Nelson, puts words in her mouth, downplay the enormous significance of her deceit. Beverly Young Nelson, one of the women accusing GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct, tells @GMA it “sickens” her to think what might happen if Moore is elected. ? ABC News Politics (@ABCPolitics) December 8, 2017 “Nelson admits she did make notes to the inscription, ” ABC News tells us. “But the message was all Roy Moore. ” “Beverly, he signed your yearbook, ” ABC News reporter Tom Llamas says. “He did sign it, ” she replies. “And you made some notes underneath. ” “Yes, ” Nelson says. And then, after a woman admits to forging a document used in a campaign to destroy the Republican nominee for the U. Senate in Alabama, ABC News quickly moves on as though it is not news of extraordinary consequence. Llamas also fails to ask any follow-ups, such as “If the explanation is this simple, why wait all these weeks to offer it? ” Or, “Why did you lie? ” Nelson is accusing Moore of attempting to assault her when she was just 16-years-old. With the election just four days away, this admission of forgery could not come at a better time for Moore. Nelson and Allred are planning a news conference Friday, but nothing will overcome the forgery admission. How can anyone believe anything she says after admitting to such a thing? Early reports are that Nelson and Allred will produce an expert to prove the rest of the yearbook is not a forgery. So a proven forger is bringing in her own expert. What an insult to the people of Alabama. Another problem with Nelson is that she has a motive to lie and forge: as a circuit judge, Moore ruled against her in a 1999 divorce case. The Moore campaign has been pressuring Nelson and Allred for weeks to submit the yearbook for independent handwriting analysis. Now everyone knows why that request was rejected and ignored. With Nelson now thoroughly discredited, this leaves two accusers against Moore. One is Leigh Corfman, who claims Moore molested her as a 14-year-old child. She is the most credible of the three, but the narrative behind her story, that Moore’s abuse resulted in Corfman’s living a troubled life of “drinking, drugs, boyfriends, and a suicide attempt, ” is directly contradicted by contemporaneous court records. Moore’s final accuser is Tina Johnson, a woman who claims Moore groped her butt in his office in 1991. But, again, as was the case with Corfman and Nelson, the left-wing media outlets reporting these allegations (the Washington Post, ) either failed to fully vet the accusers or withheld crucial context. Thanks to New Media’s going behind these discredited outlets to fact check the reporting, we now know that Johnson did not tell the entire truth. She was not in Moore’s office “on business. ” If she was in Moore’s office at all, it was due to a bitter custody battle where Moore represented Johnson’s mother, who was trying to gain custody of Johnson’s 12-year-old son based on the claim that Johnson was an “unfit, absent, and unstable mother. ” If the media and the accusers and Gloria Allred told the full truth to begin with, they would all be more credible. As far as the accusations against Moore involving his wanting to date teenage girls, those are trumped-up charges, utter nonsense. The age of consent in Alabama was and is 16. Moreover, 40?years ago, it was not at all uncommon in the South for a?32-year-old man to seek a much younger bride. So not only did Moore not break the law, he was not violating any social mores. Bombshell Watch stream online. Bombshell Watch. It hasn't been a good run for movies about the media in recent memory, particularly as such offerings pertain to the late Roger Ailes, the man behind the rise of Fox News. Exhibit A is "Bombshell, " the story of a group of women, including Nicole Kidman's turn as Gretchen Carlson and Charlize Theron's as Megyn Kelly, taking on the late Fox News chairman and CEO in what, on paper, looked to be a sure-fire hit for the A-list cast alone. In addition to Kidman and Theron, the movie offers arguably the most-coveted actress in Hollywood right now in Margot Robbie and veteran award-winner John Lithgow as Ailes. Couple in the backdrop of the #MeToo era, and surely the movie would easily eclipse the film's budget of $33 million, right? Wrong. Breaking News: "Bombshell, " which should be leaving most theaters in short order after premiering nationwide on December 20, has generated only $15. 6 million at the box office as of December 29. That's not even half of what the movie cost to be made. Reviews for the film have been mixed, with a 67 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes out of a possible 100. Not great, like Adam Sandler's "Uncut Gems" (92 percent rating); not completely horrible, like "Cats" (20 percent rating). Yet, given the cast and hype, a disappointment from a critical perspective and a movie that clearly has not benefited from positive word of mouth. Not especially, particularly when considering how Ailes-themed movies and documentaries have fared in the recent past. Exhibit B is "Divide and Conquer, " which hit the big- and small-screen last year. Never heard of it, you say? You're not the only one. In December 2018, the movie grossed less than $40, 000 at the box office. The documentary also fared poorly on cable channel A&E weeks later, delivering just 228, 000 total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. For context, HBO's Michael Jackson documentary, "Leaving Neverland, " was watched by 1. 3 million in the same time slot and notched 663, 000 viewers in the 25-54 year-old demographic, even though it was on a pay-TV channel. Exhibit C: Earlier this year, there was another Ailes offering in the form of Oscar-winner Russell Crowe portraying Ailes in Showtime's adaptation of Gabriel Sherman's book, "The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News ? and Divided a Country. " That took in just 299, 000 viewers for its premiere. For context, HBO's "Big Little Lies"?(ironically, starring Kidman)?aired in the same timeslot and delivered 1. 605 million viewers. Add it all up, and it appears that there isn't much interest in the downfall of Ailes. One reason: We all read the reports of his swift demise after Gretchen Carlson's July 2016 lawsuit against Ailes, which led to his resignation less than three weeks later following an internal investigation by the outside law firm Paul, Weiss. From there, Alies' alleged exploits were covered extensively and in detail. Translation: The story arc and conclusion aren’t a surprise or a secret. One has to wonder when other #MeToo-era movies about other major media figures will be made, given all the options available. How about a feature film on Harvey Weinstein, and Ronan Farrow's relentless effort to get that story to print after it got killed by NBC, according to Farrow. NBC staunchly denies the claim. Sounds like an interesting story, possibly starring Harvey Fierstein and Tom Felton, no? When's that Matt Lauer Matthew (Matt) Todd Lauer Women's advocacy group calls on DNC to block Bloomberg from debate Unlikely duo Bill Maher, Megyn Kelly give #CancelCulture scolding it deserves 'Bombshell' bombing at box office isn't exactly a shock ? here's why MORE or Charlie Rose Charles Peete Rose 'Bombshell' bombing at box office isn't exactly a shock ? here's why '60 Minutes' producer alleges CBS News retaliated after she reported inappropriate behavior Bloomberg allies acknowledge his past 'disrespectful and wrong' comments about women MORE documentary coming? How about that Les Moonves miniseries on HBO? "Bombshell’s" poor showing comes as another media-themed movie is also struggling, in the form of "Richard Jewell. " This Clint Eastwood film tells the story of the FBI and the media bungling the investigation into the 1996 Summer Olympics bombing in Atlanta and turning an innocent security guard, Jewell, into a prime suspect based on no evidence. Box office since its December 13 release date: $16 million.?Budget: $45 million As we all know, the media in general is not very well liked in this polarized country these days. Morning Consult found that news outlets comprise 12 of the 15 most politically polarizing brands in the country out of more than 3, 700 brands that the company tracks daily. So it's no shock when another polarizing entity?? Hollywood???decides to put major money and resources into the same media story in Ailes, few people even raise an eyebrow at the prospect of actually watching it. I wish they would get women who at least would look like they would have a chance. Women like Laila Ali for example... The only thing that's disappointing is that this story even needed to be told. It's disgusting that this kind of thing happens in America. I applaud the people who stood up and spoke out to stop what was going on. It's only a tiny dent in the changes that need to be made in workplace culture. So many people still don't see the problem. Great movie. 'I could be his mother guys' epic ?. I honestly felt I was in a meeting the entire time, and someone was going to go on stage after, and give us a quiz to fill out about what we just saw.
It really sucks this is directed by a male (since he didn't add much) This editing is as horrible as Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm shocking it didn't go directly to On Demand (or to video) It gets street cred, since every so often it comes across as important, and a lot of people should watch it for that. But I can't recommend this to anyone, on the principle of it being a film.

You have to wonder, who they have on video. Bombshell Watch streaming. Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie star in a story about the fall of Roger Ailes. Video transcript transcript ‘Bombshell’ | Anatomy of a Scene The director Jay Roach narrates a sequence featuring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. Hi, I’m Jay Roach. I am the director of the film “Bombshell. ” So in this scene, we see Margot Robbie, who’s playing Kayla, take a call from? clearly, from Roger Ailes’ office. And Kate McKinnon, who’s playing Jess, in the cubicle with her. We have just seen, a few scenes back, that Roger is harassing Kayla right this minute and is now pressuring her to come back up. We’ve also seen that Kate McKinnon’s character has warned her not to talk about it. So right away, it’s about staying silent. The score is playing this sort of haunting, all women’s voices as the instrumentation, almost Phillip Glass thing that Teddy Shapiro came up with to emphasize how alone she is on this walk. And she walks into this elevator and thinks she can be alone. But in walks her actual idol, Megyn Kelly, played by Charlize Theron. And now, two women, who both have secrets, who both have been harassed, are in the same tight space and won’t say a word to each other. And they’re going to ride this elevator up to the floor where Roger Ailes is. And this shot here is such a great example of Barry Ackroyd’s incredibly humanistic operating. He’s just watching the people and paying attention to what they’re reacting to, and finding the composition off of the performance. In comes Gretchen Carlson, played by Nicole Kidman, who’s now a third woman in a different level of predicament, a different level of being harassed by Roger. And they’re all stuck in this space. So this was a very important scene, because it’s the only time in the whole movie when all three women are in the same place. And we wanted a kind of combination of capturing the predicament of them being in the elevator but not supporting each other, and seeing that in the wide shot, that you could actually jump around to watch each woman’s face in the three-shot and compose for that. And as Megyn watches them walk away, she knows that Margo, especially, is walking into Roger’s lair, where almost all of the harassment happened at Fox. The director Jay Roach narrates a sequence featuring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. Credit Credit... Hilary B Gayle/Lionsgate Published Dec. 12, 2019 Updated Dec. 13, 2019 Bombshell Directed by Jay Roach Biography, Drama R 1h 48m Bright and bouncy until it turns grim, “Bombshell” is a fictionalized account of the women who brought down Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of Fox News. Helped bring him down is probably more accurate given that he was ousted by Rupert Murdoch, who founded Fox News in 1996 before handing the reins to Ailes. Since then, the network has become a ratings powerhouse and hothouse of right-wing talking points, a sea of white faces and dolled-up women in skirts and high heels. Ailes is now gone but the talking points, high ratings, skirts and heels remain. The movie’s title is clever, cleverness being its modus operandi. The story, after all, is about female employees who, with icy smiles and iron ambition, worked for a conservative political force who institutionalized the harassment of women. So, how do you make heroines out of characters that some in the audience will see as deeply compromised if not outright villainous? For starters, you cast on the offensive by having Charlize Theron play Megyn Kelly, Nicole Kidman do Gretchen Carlson and Margot Robbie break hearts as the fictional Kayla Pospisil. Image Credit... Hilary B Gayle/Lionsgate The stars, with their unimpeachable talent, filmographies and feminist cred, are a shrewd way of blunting skepticism. Even so, the characters are tricky, especially Megyn and Gretchen, who come with ideological baggage that complicates Hollywood’s holy grail of relatability. The movie wants, needs us to like them, which may be why it breaks the fourth wall early on with Megyn directly addressing the audience, looking into the camera as she tours the network offices in a slightly tight red, white and blue dress. One man yells out a compliment, another looks her up and down. She keeps on walking, focused, hips swinging like knives. Having her talk to the viewer immediately makes the audience part of a very special Megyn Kelly tour group. It creates intimacy, almost a little conspiracy between you and her, so when she starts chatting about Roger (John Lithgow, galumphing with verve), including his history advising Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, you lean in and listen. Tell us more. You’re getting the inside dope from one of the network’s biggest stars. When Megyn says that Roger is always watching and we see the many surveillance monitors inside his own personal panopticon, it brings a shiver. Tell us everything. Directed by Jay Roach, from a script by Charles Randolph (“ The Big Short ”), “Bombshell” opens not long before the first Republican presidential candidates’ debate in August 2015. Kelly moderated it with two other Fox News anchors, but she was the one who drew national attention because of her questioning of Donald J. Trump and what it wrought. “You once told a contestant on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees, ” Kelly said. “Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president? ” Afterward, Trump said she had “behaved very badly” and went on a Twitter rampage against her. Here’s the thing about sexism: It doesn’t discriminate. It’s an equal opportunity prejudice that cuts across history, culture, political affiliation. “Bombshell” gets this. And part of what works in the movie is that it does a good job of presenting the ordinary assaults that women, even those with great privilege, can endure simply to get through a day, including dehumanizing “compliments. ” When Megyn walks through the network as men size her up, she doesn’t break stride. She keeps marching. She’s a warrior and Theron makes you believe that with her ramrod posture and absolute assurance, Megyn could lead an army or maybe a rebellion, if she chose. Will she or won’t she? That’s the question teased for a long time in “Bombshell, ” which gains steam as Trump’s assault stirs up trouble for Megyn. (Roach incorporates archival material of the real candidate throughout, amping up the movie’s historical bona fides. ) Narratively, Megyn’s insistence on calling Trump out for his treatment for women ? and then dealing with the ominous backlash ? becomes a prelude to the looming crisis with Roger. She is the network’s biggest female star and she’s willing to take on a presidential candidate; as Roger says, it’s good TV. But when Gretchen sues Roger for sexual harassment, Megyn at first lets the other woman twist in the wind. Roach started out directing comedies and his background generally works for him in “Bombshell, ” which he gives a lightness of touch in the beginning that promises (rightly, sometimes wrongly) everything will work out just fine. He even brings a sense of breezy fun to Fox that suggests everyone will soon be amusingly skewered. (The cinematographer Barry Ackroyd brings the texture, shadows and professional sheen. ) With its big hair, shiny sets and the gun-packing Sean Hannity, the network is grist for parody, though it can be tough to tell who’s in on the joke. (The cast includes Kate McKinnon, Richard Kind, Allison Janney and a devilish Malcolm McDowell. ) “Bombshell” works as well and as long as it does largely because of its actors, Theron most of all. One of her qualities as a performer is that she never begs for the audience’s love. She can come across as remote, but she also reads as supremely self-contained: She’s a fortress of one. She shows you her characters’ existential isolation, which is often where their humanity lies. You see that in “Bombshell, ” which strengthens its realism and is finally more impressive than the prosthetics she wears that, with a husky scrape in her voice, turn her into Kelly’s uncanny double. Even when the movie puts some feminist-lite uplift on this ugly world, Theron doesn’t soften Megyn. Kidman is comparatively sidelined, though it’s Gretchen who knocks over the first domino. (The Showtime limited series about Ailes’s downfall, “The Loudest Voice, ” foregrounds Carlson. ) For the most part, Kidman plays Gretchen sincerely, though Roach over-sentimentalizes the character, especially with periodic cutaways to her children. But Kidman also makes Gretchen ever-so-slightly ridiculous, adding a sharp sliver of comedy that underscores how self-serving and futile her rebellious gestures at the network are, like when she appears on camera wearing no makeup. You will never win the war, the movie implies, by working for the enemy. That critique only goes so far in “Bombshell, ” which finally can’t deal with the story’s uncomfortable contradictions. So instead it makes you cry, notably with Kayla, a self-described evangelical millennial in the “Jesus space. ” Robbie deepens the movie’s emotional stakes as its persuasively sweet golden girl, who is brutalized by Roger. Roach handles this well enough, including in an upsetting scene in which Roger orders her to bare her white panties, a queasy emblem of surrender. But it is Robbie ? with her panicked, darting eyes and tensely resistant, then capitulating physicality ? who conveys the horror of sexual harassment, a degradation that seeps into body and soul. Kayla is the movie’s sacrificial lamb and, to an extent, a representation of female victimization and innocence. The problem in “Bombshell” is that Megyn and Gretchen have for y
