O tempo que eu perdi contigo. I'm interested in this movie because of shinkai's previous works, and I think considering his last movie's success, many people also feels that way, so it's very hard to not comparing shinkai's next work with "your name. I'll start with the animation and visualization in this anime, it's better than "your name" and it captures the metropolitan culture of tokyo's Japanese people very well, though i miss the depiction of japan traditional culture and rural area in this movie. About the music, they have similar aura with "your name" moving moments in the movie are captured brilliantly with the music. Storywise though, your name" was a better love story than this movie, and "your name" made more sense than this movie. It is still a very good movie though, but I think it won't top "your name" success... I hope shinkai will make many more good movie after this, and with this much of quality, I think many people would still want to watch his future projects... I know I would.
O tempo contigo amor. O tempo contigo portugal. This is my third annual spoiler-free write-up about the anime at the Animation is Film Festival. You can read my post from last year here. There were 3 big anime films this year and I got the chance to see them all. Weathering With You This film undoubtably lives in the shadow of the colossal success of Your Name. And while comparisons between the two are inevitable given their similarities and shared creative team, it’s clear that Shinkai wanted to make a film with different focuses and themes. Weathering With You has a larger core cast and tackles more grounded real-world issues. While Your Name has a more focused narrative and got me more emotionally invested, Weathering With You is more challenging and has left me pondering the film’s themes even after seeing it twice. The quick pace of the film throws a lot at you, but on the second viewing I picked up more foreshadowing and felt the pace flowed well for the most part. Visually the film is breathtaking. Without a doubt the best character animation of any Shinkai movie alongside the gorgeous animation of the rain and weather. RADWIMPS delivers another great score as well. There are not as many memorable music moments as Your Name, but one song during the climax will definitely stick with me for years to come. I’m curious to see what everyone else thinks of this ambitious film when it gets it’s full release. Children of the Sea The trailers got me excited to see the beautifully detailed animation of this movie and the full film does not disappoint. The characters move smoothly despite the dense designs and the background art is on a level very few anime can match. Joe Hisaishi’s score is very good, but more minimalist and atmospheric than fans of his Ghilbi scores are familiar with. That focus on atmospheric tone carries through the whole film which is more concerned with taking you through a philosophical journey of visuals and emotions rather than a logical plot. I didn’t get as invested in the characters as I was hoping too, but the trippy climax of the films is a true feast for the eyes and brings the core themes about the connections between all life together. It’s a slow burn that is definitely not for everyone, but it will reward those who are willing to be patient with it. Ride Your Wave The latest film from the great Masaaki Yuasa, Ride Your Wave had my whole theater laughing constantly. It has an interesting balance between comedy, romance, and tragedy. It’s hard not to get invested in the sweet relationship between the two leads, especially after a great montage early on. And the film does tackle it’s more serious topics well, coping with loss being a key theme. The animation is fun and bouncy like in his other films and the score is solid. Unfortunately, the circumstances leading up to the climax felt contrived and did not resolve the main character’s inner conflict in a satisfying way. Which is a shame since I really loved the film up to that point. It’s still a good film I would recommend to anyone, but the ending holds it back from true greatness.

Filme o tempo contigo. O tempo contigo trailer. O Tempo contigny. O tempo contigo para. O tempo que passei contigo é intenso. [What Went Wrong with the 17th Volume] This is the final version. Very very sorry for the deletion & repost. Won’t do it again. [Prelude Op. 28, No. 15 in D-Flat Major (Raindrop)] I wrote this in order to understand my own discontent with the 17th volume. Feel free to give a comment. By the way, if you’re a cultured weeb, you’d surely know the Prelude in the title. Yes, you could hear it in Tenki no Ko. [Honobono Tokidoki Serious Soshite Harem] It’s the mantra of this story. You could find it written on the cover of the Japanese version of the light novels. It’s written in romaji so you could easily find it. Basically it translates to “heartwarming but sometimes serious harem”. So, yeah this story is mostly a heartwarming slice of life with the occasional actions & dramas here & there. Also, no argument, this is a harem literature alright. [How I Interpret This Story? ] Basically it’s the privileged, educated, cultured boys’ isekai. [The Usual Dramatic/Serious Isekai Repertoire] Damn I hate my current world. Thank god, I got isekai-ed. Heck yeah it’s a new start I can do whatever I want. Inner conflicts with the cultural differences. Inner conflicts with the different moral values & norms. Typical emotionally draining dramatic scenes. Found companions & got softened along the way. Hey it’s not so bad. I got my b*tches & bros. I’ll manage. I’ll take it step by step. Damn I got isekai-ed. I miss my previous world already. Damn this world is so unfair. Some MCs got betrayed & got mental shock at the beginning. To hell with this isekai & its people. I can do whatever I want! Do emo & edgy stuff. Found companions. Got softened along the way & got “healed” somehow. It’s not so bad with my b*tches & bros. I call this the man of action isekai. It’s for people who find dramas & emotional burdens much more relatable & realistic if you got isekai-ed. Both alphas & betas could love this type of isekai. Alphas love actions & dislike too much talking & thinking. Betas who hate when things get philosophical should love this type of isekai. They’ll find the dramas & situations relatable with their life. The MC usually gave them some kind of inspiration to get through their IRL life. [The Usual Slice of Life or Slow Life Isekai Repertoire] Got isekai-ed. Man, this is so much better than being a black company salaryman or a depressed hikiNEET or a highschooler/college student with no ambition or clear goal in mind in the land of the rising sun, Nippon. I’ll just take it easy this time. Usually focused on just one theme. Either agriculture, pharmacy, farming, cooking, industry, commerce, politics, or slow life adventuring. Found companions one by one, a harem is usually naturally included. Become a hugely successful person in another world. No clear main plot. Duh, it’s a slice of life. Sometimes you’ll get a bombshell main plot in the middle or near the ending. [How Do I See the Writer? ] An intellectual type. Intellectuals prefer philosophical stuff therefore this type tends to overthink & overanalyze things. Hence, intellectuals tend to have many opinions on many kinds of stuff. Terrorism & Criminalism. Parenting & Child Education. Religious Conservatism. Cultural & Traditional Stuffs. Bullying & Racism. Critics on Movies, TV Shows & Anime/Manga. Old Fashioned Values vs Progress & Development. Japanese Hospitality. Love & Friendship. Office & School Culture. You could find all of the above just from the “Satou here” section. [How the Writer Approach This Story? ] Basically, Satou is himself. This story is a what if story of himself got isekai-ed. He obviously prefers to take an isekai with a cool head. With rationalism, utilitarianism, the occasional hedonism (the foodgasms, the touring/sightseeing, his ladies-man/playboy activities with the girls & the occasional visits to onee-sans) & humanism based on Japanese ethics (moral values & norms) that he learned from his good ol’ Japanese parents & teachers. [What Justified This Privileged Mamas’ Boys Isekai? ] The man of action would surely hate this type of isekai. How could you face a world with different cultures & ethics with a cool head? The answer is the OP abilities. OP-ness justify the cool-headed-ness & the lack of dramas, mental breakdowns & emotional burdens. How could this story escape the generic isekai SOL/slow life then? The answer is the godhood theme. By using “lessons to godhood”, the writer could include practically everything in this story. Basically, the MC is destined to deal with everything in this world because duh, if a god is a kind of executive position in a company/firm called world then you should familiarize yourself with all the stuff in that world & think about how to handle all of those stuff. [How Did the Story Flow up until the 16th Volume? ] The story flowed smoothly with clear goals & schedules ahead. Hang out at Seiryuu. Decided to go to Selbira with a stop at Boruenan. Hang out at Muno & Oyugock along the way. Adventuring in Selbira. Went to the Royal Capital. Went back to Selbira. Got a job at the tourism ministry so here comes the touring. Got to finish an errand from the gods so here comes the gods’ trials. [How Does the Story Flow in the 17th Volume? ] It betrayed the previous volumes because we don’t have any clear goals & schedule in the 17th volume post visiting the Gods’ Realm. Hence, the regrettable time skips. We’re already familiar with the usual story flow then suddenly the 17th volume stopped that flow. It just doesn’t feel right. [Why the Time Skips are Unacceptable] It’s a freaking slice of life. It’s exactly because this is a slice of life, it doesn’t need any time skip. The idea of a slice of life is the scenes from everyday life. Time skip betrays that fundamental idea. We read this because we want to see our cute girls hanging out with each other & their beloved Satou. We’re already familiar with intermissions & different POVs so the expectations are high. But then the time skips came. *facepalm indeed We don’t have any clear schedule & goals in the earlier part of the 17th volume post visiting the Gods’ Realm. We already know that the gods basically are just bad administrators of the world. Should’ve gone straight to Dragon God instead of the unnecessary hangouts with those gods. Satou didn’t get any kind of godhood lesson post visiting the Gods’ Realm except for the “how to handle your emotions when your GF got harrassed & kidnapped”. We also read this for the romcom & the ladies man repertoire. Only the almighty Aze who got her share at the earlier part of the 17th volume. Way too little lovey dovey stuff for the other girls. Last but not least, the naval battles. Sure we got the Bridal Knights’ “Wedding Ceremony” but it doesn’t change the fact that the naval battles are at its climax. Did Satou ever talk to Zena about their engagement? Did Satou ever talk to Aze about his engagement with Zena? Did Satou ever talk to the girls about his engagement with Zena? What are the girls’ opinions on Satou’s relationship with Zena? How does Satou truly view his engagement with Zena? Did it manage to change his views on love & marriage? Did Satou’s engagement with Zena manage to give the other girls more chances? How does Satou truly see Sera? He’s very lenient to her touchy feely & intimacy after all. He even described her as his intimate friend. What is exactly an intimate friend? In other words, there’s so many unanswered questions, the harem is supposed to be in high tension (just ask all the 48 idol groups, they’ll sing “Heavy Rotation” for you). The time skips are surely out of place. It betrays our expectations. [How the Writer Justify the Time Skips? ] Through the purple towers. Weak. Especially if you already read the current 17-49. Demon God is dead. His defeat is truly the definition of absurdity. I don’t mind a lolicon getting killed by a loli but it just doesn’t justify the time skips & the chapters where he felt like some big shot end game boss. He died like a small fry. In the end his role is only for complementing the main plot & filling the plot holes. His importance is the same as the other pillar gods. Not Dragon God tier. Through the Zaikuon & Demon God fiasco. It’s okay-ish. It’s okay-ish because we got to see Satou get mad & went berserk after his GF got harrassed & kidnapped. But, the saving grace is only that. It would be better if the writer skipped the Zaikuon part & went straight to the Aze being kidnapped by the Demon God so we can skip Zaikuon & immediately focus on the Demon & Dragon God. Just replace the purple towers & time skips with cutesy & lovey-dovey stuff instead. It’s better to have the Demon God suddenly got huge reserves of miasma out of nowhere than those unnecessary time skips. [How the Writer Justify the Naval Battles? ] IMO just like he messed up with the story-flow. He also messed around with the power balance in the harem. He decided to bring the almighty Aze out of the forest. He decided to show us that she’s the top b*tch and all the other girls including the strong ones like Zena, Arisa & Sera suddenly turned into weak sideb*tches. Aze got so many strong flags in the earlier part of 17th volume. It’s crazy. Satou had tons of monologues inside his head saying how cute & pretty she is just from her being a cute klutz like usual. Satou fed her with a spoon in front of the sideb*cthes. Damn the hierarchy is hugely asserted. Satou thought about having a prayer to show his gratefulness because he got to meet her while he was in the Gods’ Realm. Tons of flags from her [harassed
Weathering with you is yet another great to look at japanese animated film, and it is obvious that only japanese animators can make a film like this and make it work, every scene is beautiful and detailed to maximum and it makes me wonder how can people able to make staff like this so clean and gorgeus to look at,characters in a film are fully developed and i ended up on their side and to care for them until the end,i only wished that we got to see some more staff in a story about controling weather and not just making clouds go away,i think that writers didnt have a bigger idea what to do with her abbilities and they satisfayed themselfs with simple and most obvious one, weathering with you is beautifully animated film that fans of this work will appriaciate it.
