description One of the greatest miracles in the Bible; Moses and the Israelites trapped at the sea by Pharaoh's army when God miraculously parts the waters. But is there any evidence that it really happened and if so, where?

Patterns of evidence 3a the red sea miracle karaoke. A continuation from the previous thread. You said, “But I have a question for that. I agree with you, but my question is more to hear your rational: “Why is that? Where does ‘goodness’ run up against ‘cruelty’? Where did you get these ideas(that they’re incompatible)? And what gives you the right to apply them as a need? ” God must be good because he commands us to be good. He can’t be both because he claims to be one (and he clearly is evil). He prohibits murder - and commits genocide He prohibits coveting - but is a jealous God He commands that we love our neighbor - doesn’t love any of the surrounding countries around the Israelites - and often kills all of their men woman and children... unless they are virgins... then let’s rape them. He commands us not to steal - then commands the Israelites to do just that 3/10 commandments are relevant today and they can be summed up by the golden rule which predates the Bible and exists in every major religion to this day. God of the OT is evil and Christians are clearly embarrassed by his behavior because they only focus on the NT in Church and for their books they make a living off of... I respect your explanations but I won’t indulge in a discussion about Greek or Hebrew. We don’t know who wrote much of the NT or OT... (1+2 Peter were written by a man who couldn’t read)’s a mosh pit of known and unknown authors and to claim to have any solid evidence of the origin or meaning of this book is pure speculation in my opinion. Again, I'm really not sure if you're hardcore skimming, or what's happening. God must be good because he commands us to be good. I agree. But I agree because in a world created with real good, and real evil according to a loving standard... hypocrisy is wrong. And God contradicting His nature would be wrong. I don't think you can back that up the same way I can. So I ask again, "Where did we get the idea of hypocrisy from? What makes ‘goodness’ and ‘cruelty’ contradictory outside of our own opinions? Or what tells us that hypocrisy is wrong? " I'd like to hear your real perspective. Are you positing that good and evil really exist by an objective standard? (I'd agree, I just want to know if that's what you're saying. ) He can’t be both because he claims to be one (and he clearly is evil). And again, “Why is that? Where does ‘goodness’ run up against ‘cruelty’? Where did you get these ideas(that they’re incompatible)? And what gives you the right to apply them as a need? ” In order to claim ‘goodness’ is incompatible with cruelty, you need a true definition of goodness, and cruelty. And they cannot be subjective. And I'd like to hear how you call God evil. To call Him truly evil, you'd need to know what evil is. It needs to truly be wrong. And that can only be the case in a world set by His standard. If you have another answer, I'd love to hear it. But let's move onto your other points briefly, because I believe they're mistaken, even if you have objective evil and good. 1. He prohibits murder - and commits genocide He said human murder is a horrible sin. It is a selfish act of violent depravity. A seizing of the throne of life from God Himself, proclaiming, "I have the self-given right to end another human soul, " and then doing so. Often out of hate, fear, or selfis need one way or another. That is very different from God-driven justice. (And I know that sounds alienating, but hear me out. ) Are you familiar with what the other nations practiced? As mentioned before, ".. God's eyes, the surrounding nations were... pretty troubled. Leviticus 18, for example. The men in the surrounding nations are described as having sexual relations with... their mothers, their step-mothers, their sisters and step-sisters, their grandchildren, their aunts, their daughter-in-laws, their sister-in-laws(brother's wife), their sister-in-laws(wife's sister), and their neighbor's wife(and again, neighbor, Biblically, is effectively anyone). That's... pretty messed up. But that alone doesn't get my point across. Sadly, this passage also refers to the sacrifice of children to Molek. This is... accurate. It also refers to bestiality as a similar practice. " And there are a good number of references that imply nonconsensuality pretty directly, particularly in reference to the bestiality issue. But I didn't go into detail about what happens with Molek. I'm going to make that clear. Sacrifice to Molek was a ritual ceremony, in which an iron statue/kiln was created in the shape of a bull, with its arms out. It was then superheated across the course of the ritual, and children were placed in its arms as a sacrifice. Ancient Jewish sources are cited as saying that drums were played intensely so their screams could not be heard. At some point, God judges that the evil done by a civilization like this continuing? It's not allowable. It can't continue. Because it will fester, and root itself deeper into destructive and terrifying, tearful habits of woeful destruction, and violent depictions of the greatest loss of life on the altar of the iron bull. So to God? This is not okay. This culture may not continue. It needs to end. But doing so is not as simple as you think. We fought to end Nazi rhetoric. Why? We realized it was morally abhorrent. And we recognized this by God's standard. (I'd like to ask how else. ) In the Ancient Near East, this isn't as easy as you might think. See, the people are viciously tied to their traditions. It's their worth, their livelihood, and their being. Men grow up to lead in these traditions, and the wives adopt the traditions and patterns of their husbands. Every man who grows up, no matter what culture he's in, is going to try and continue his family pattern. This a stronger cultural tie than most any you'll see today. And when it's tied to such broken lasciviousness, to such a destructive ritual? If every self-proclaimed Nazi today actively participated in killing or gassing Jews? If we had followers of Molek today, burning children on altars? Well... you get the picture. Letting leading men, their wives, priests, or even the young men of the age grow up into their culture of depravity may be a far worse evil, especially if its propagated. So that ends. It has to. We don't like it. And I understand why. This used to be my approach. We cry out, "But how dare you take life? " He is the author of life. People die of random causes all the time. I could have a heart attack right now. He is under no obligation to extend my existence on this earth. We all recognize this when we accuse some authority who presumes to take life as “playing God. ” Human authorities arrogate to themselves rights which belong only to God. God is under no obligation whatsoever to extend my life for another second. If He wants to end my life right now, that’s His prerogative. I trust His timing. (That's even more impactful given the fact that... from the Christian worldview? This life isn't all that there is. But that's another discussion) But let's look at God's character here. You're challenging it. Let's really look close and judge carefully. We see a reflection of His character in a dozen moments like this. I used to judge my parents for their actions all the time when I was younger... until I saw the bigger picture, saw and began to admire who they are, and understood why. (Now, they're not perfect. But I believe this sets the example well enough. ) So let's look at God's character leading up to these events, in direct relation to this issue. (I'm not intending to 'distract' with verses about love. I hope to truly show the character of God here, and His constant pattern. ) Starting off: The command to kill all the Canaanite peoples is jarring precisely because it seems so at odds with the portrait of Yahweh, Israel’s God, which is painted in the Hebrew Scriptures. Contrary to the vituperative rhetoric of someone like Richard Dawkins, the God of the Hebrew Bible is a God of justice, long-suffering, and compassion. You can’t read the Old Testament prophets without a sense of God’s profound care for the poor, the oppressed, the down-trodden, the orphaned, and so on. God demands just laws and just rulers. He literally pleads with people to repent of their unjust ways that He might not judge them. * “As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live”* (Ez. 33. 11). He sends a prophet even to the pagan city of Nineveh because of his pity for its inhabitants, * “who do not know their right hand from their left”* (Jon. 4. The Pentateuch itself contains the Ten Commandments, one of the greatest of ancient moral codes, which has shaped Western society. Even the stricture “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” was not a prescription of vengeance but a check on excessive punishment for any crime, serving to moderate violence. God’s judgment is anything but capricious. When the Lord announces His intention to judge Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins, Abraham boldly asks, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just? ” (Gen. 18. 25). Like a Middle Eastern merchant haggling for a bargain, Abraham continually lowers his price, and each time God meets it without hesitation, assuring Abraham that if there are even ten righteous persons in the city, He will not destroy it for their sake. So then what is Yahweh doing in commanding Israel’s armies to exterminate the Canaanite peoples? It is precisely because we have come to expect Yahweh to act justly and with compassion

It’s one of the greatest miracles in the Bible; Moses and the Israelites trapped at the sea by Pharaoh’s army when God miraculously parts the waters, rescuing the Israelites and destroying Pharaoh and his chariots. But is there any evidence that it really happened and if so, where? That’s what investigative filmmaker Timothy Mahoney set out to discover 18 years ago and now he is ready to share what’s been uncovered; a controversy between two dramatically different approaches in reading the biblical text. One approach is Egyptian, the other is Hebrew. Both will lead to two very different conclusions on the location of the Exodus crossing site and the cause of the miraculous parting of the sea. What do these different approaches tell us about miracles ? and what do they tell us about God? “Patterns of Evidence: The Red Sea Miracle” will be in theaters Feb. 18, 2020. | Patters of Evidence “Patterns of Evidence” filmmaker Tim Mahoney is gearing up to release the next installment in his series of archaeological and scientific investigations into historical biblical accounts. His latest film looks at the Exodus miracle of the parting of the Red Sea. The biblical account of the parting of the Red Sea is found in Exodus 14 and details the Israelites' escape from slavery led by Moses as the Egyptian army pursued them.? Following the success of Mahoney's previous award-winning "Patterns of Evidence" projects, he believes this film, like the others, will refute secular scholars’ claims that the Bible is mere fiction and do so in a way that is understood by people worldwide. ??? “ Patterns of Evidence: The Red Sea Miracle, ” a?Thinking Man Films production, will be in select?theaters nationwide for one day only on Feb. 18 through Fathom Events.?? The following is an edited transcript of The Christian Post's interview with Mahoney who has been investigating biblical accounts for over 20 years. In the interview he detailed what it was like to retrace the steps of Moses and the Israelites as he searched for archaeological evidence to create “Patterns of Evidence: The Red Sea Miracle” Part 1 and 2. The Christian Post: In the film you describe the Egyptian and Hebrew accounts of the parting of the Red Sea. Most Christians visualize the Charlton Heston version of that account, which you said you have also done. Can you explain the two positions? Mahoney: When we make a “Patterns of Evidence” film we look for a way to explain the different viewpoints that are being used to explain biblical events such as the Red Sea miracle. In this new film, we identified what we termed an Egyptian Approach which believes that the Exodus account borrowed Egyptian words to describe the crossing location. And they believe these words point to the crossing at one of the reedy lakes near the border of Egypt.?? The other viewpoint we call the Hebrew Approach disagrees with a near Egypt location. They believe that the words used to describe the location where Moses and the Israelites crossed are Hebrew words and do not have a connection to Egypt. They also point to other biblical references that place the sea of the Exodus at the Gulf of Aqaba. CP: In the film you also explain the importance of the Hebrew and Egyptian translations of individual words when discussing the parting of the sea account. How revealing was the actual translation in your research? Mahoney: What we know is that the sea was first called “Yam Suph" in Hebrew. Centuries later it is translated into Greek as “Red Sea. ” Over time people also called the location “Sea of Reeds. ” What we would learn is that reeds don’t grow in saltwater, they grow in freshwater. The Egyptian approach believes that the word “Suph” might be a translation from the Egyptian word “Pa Tufy” which means “place of reeds. ”? Yet, the Hebrew Approach challenges this connection claiming that Moses was writing an eyewitness account to Hebrews using Hebrew words and Hebrew meanings, not Egyptian. CP: What were you most surprised to find out about the parting of the sea? Mahoney: This is the first film of a two-part film event. The Red Sea Miracle part 1 (in theaters on Feb. 18) really lays out two distinctly different ways people see God working in a miracle. The Egyptian Approach sees the parting as a naturalistic event where wind was the agent and it moved water naturally. The miracle would be in the timing.?? The Hebrew Approach primarily believes that the miracle was not only caused by wind but that God miraculously parted the water. The depth of the water would not be a problem for the God of the Bible who created the universe. CP: What would you like for others to take from this new installment of Patterns of Evidence? Mahoney: We all are faced with difficult times in our lives, when we think we are not going to make it. We are trapped at the sea with the Egyptians behind us. But God wants us to call on Him and trust Him for the solution to our dilemma.? CP: Have your discoveries impacted historians' beliefs about these biblical accounts? Mahoney: I have learned that many historians don’t change their minds once they declare a position. But I am OK with that. I enjoy hearing what they believe and why they believe it. I couldn’t make these films without them. I do think I have help raise the awareness of these questions about the historical credibility and have shown a pattern of evidence that matches the biblical events. At the end of the day, it’s up to the viewer to decide if these films make sense. But it will give them a lot to think about. That’s why we call our company Thinking Man Films. CP: What's next for the "Patterns of Evidence" series? Mahoney: The "Red Sea Miracle" part 2 (in theaters on May 5), that’s when we look closer at the locations for the sea's parting. We will look at how the sea was parted [and] was it naturalistic or supernatural, which depends [on] where you place the crossing.? We will also look to see if claims of chariot wheels on the bottom of the seafloor have any merit.? And finally, we will explore the question of miracles. What is a miracle and do they still happen today?

Patterns of evidence the red sea miracle ii. 1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say, “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again, “I will be a Father to Him And He shall be a Son to Me”? And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, “And let all the angels of God worship Him. ” And of the angels He says, “Who makes His angels winds, And His ministers a flame of fire. ” But of the Son He says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. “You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness above Your companions. ” And, “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the works of Your hands; They will perish, but You remain; And they all will become old like a garment, And like a mantle You will roll them up; Like a garment they will also be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end. ” But to which of the angels has He ever said, “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Your enemies A footstool for Your feet”? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation? 2 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will. For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking. But one has testified somewhere, saying, “What is man, that You remember him? Or the son of man, that You are concerned about him? “You have made him for a little while lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And have appointed him over the works of Your hands; You have put all things in subjection under his feet. ” For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, “I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise. ” And again, “I will put My trust in Him. ” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me. ” Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. 3 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house?whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, And saw My works for forty years. “Therefore I was angry with this generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they did not know My ways’; As I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest. ’” Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today, ” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, while it is said, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked Me. ” For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. 4 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, “As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest, ” although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this passage, “They shall not enter My rest. ” Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, He again fixes a certain day, “Today, ” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts. ” For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. 5 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness; and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself. And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was. So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”; just as He says also in another passage, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek. ” In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, being designated by God as a hig
