You know what, this picture actually helped me understand another reason why Leto's Joker didn't work. All the other versions of the Joker seem like they are having fun. Not all of the time, but a significant amount. I can't remember Leto's Joker ever laughing except to be menacing. Phoenix's Joker doesn't really laugh for joy, but his dance on the steps, etc... he has plenty of moments where he is having fun. That's really a core element of the Joker and Suicide Squad completely missed it. I remember being excited after seeing the trailer. He has that moment with Harley, "I'm gonna hurt you really, REALLY bad" that seemed like he was having fun, but it was a like 5 second flashback and he's emo the rest of the movie.
