I remember the days before it appeared at the theater I tried to guess what the 'matrix' was (all the commercials didn't say) and I was so wrong. The opening scene with the cops downstairs I remember thinking, oh this isn't what I thought it was going to be trinity got busy.

I read that Keanu Reeves only got his part in this movie because he told the Wachowskis his ideas on the philosophical angles of the 'Neo' character and the script in general. At that was just what the directors needed to help their pretensions of making something much more important than a movie and they haven't done too bad a job. The great thing is that they haven't forgotten the need to be entertaining, too.

The special effects are fantastic, the characterisations memorable (especially Hugo Weaving's Mr Smith) and the action spectacular, but sometimes the pacing drags a little bit. The story line is intriguing and definitely sets you thinking about the greater implications of the story line (Christian parallels are many and well-constructed. I wonder, though, if the prequels/sequels that are planned will end up adding to or subtracting from (see Phantom Menace) the story so far constructed...0:38 - 0:48 Best shot in the whole movie (and the main reason why we love this film. I feel like I need to cover the Prime Program. The anomaly is the Prime Program being imprinted onto a human, who becomes The One. The purpose of The One is to return the Prime Program to the source in order to reload the Matrix. The Prime Program grants The One unique powers, and there is a gradual process by which The One discovers these powers. Though the process has altered your conscience, you remain irrevocably human. After understanding the power of the Prime Program Neo kills Smith, which imprints part of the Prime Program onto Agent Smith. This part of the Prime Program is what gives Smith his powers in the 2nd/3rd movies. If Neo had the entire Prime Program when he was jacked into the source at the Machine City, the Matrix would have reloaded immediately, but because Smith has part of the Prime Program, Neo must bring the entire code together by being assimilated by Smith.
