El guionista busca desentrañar lo que se esconde detrás de uno de los casos que hizo que cayese uno de los pesos pesados de Fox News. A través del retrato de tres mujeres afectadas por el caso, va desengranado las grandes injusticias vertidas en un ambiente cargado por la tradicionalidad hipócrita del conservadurismo patriarcal. Sin embargo, Randolph no aprovecha al máximo el material que tiene entre manos y como si temiese repercusiones, pasa por encima en ciertos aspectos que hubieran sido importante desarticular. Una ejecución demasiado correcta en el que falta cierta fuerza para poner sobre la mesa y sin miramientos el debate sobre la mesa. Cuenta mucho, pero realmente poco. Además, se echa en falta mayor profundidad en los personajes protagonistas. A lo largo de la película vamos conociendo qué es lo que hay detrás de sus anhelos y por qué se encuentran en la situación que se muestra, pero termina la balanza por desequilibrarse. Aunque se recrean las relaciones de poder entre los personajes, tarda en mostrar secuencias en las que el espectador sea capaz de conectar con lo que está viendo en pantalla. Por ello, aunque el resultado es positivo, se debe más a la ejecución artística del reparto que a la valía del libreto. Pese a ser un drama feminista, no cumple con lo que se espera y la trama periodística se mantiene en la cuerda floja, películas como ?Spotlight? supieron desarrollarlo de mejor forma. La voz cantante El alma de El escándalo (Bombshell) es indudablemente su reparto. Charlize Theron es la encargada de liderar este proyecto. La actriz saca todo el partido posible a su personaje y se luce interpretativamente en su totalidad. Se mimetiza tanto con el personaje original, que en ocasiones, se puede llegar a dudar de si es realmente la actriz. Una vez más demuestra el gran monstruo interpretativo que es. Lo mejor de la película. Por otro lado, Margot Robbie se mete en la piel de Kayla. Pese a tener una ingenuidad innata, el peso de su personaje no le permite mostrar mayor profundidad en su capacidad interpretativa. Apenas tiene cierto peso, por lo que va perdiendo fuerza según transcurre el film. Aun así, protagoniza una de las escenas con mayor carga dramática que, seguramente, le ha valido su nominación al Óscar. La tercera componente del trío protagonista es Nicole Kidman. Pese a declarar ella misma estar poco tiempo en el rodaje, junto a Theron, es la mejor interpretación de la película. Tiene una elegancia en escénica, que combinado con un manejo excelso de la expresividad, da una actuación que nace desde la verdad. Una mirada con tanta honestidad, que incluso opaca la participación de Robbie. Luego, destacar la labor de John Lithgow en el papel de Robert Ailes. Muestra una actuación pausada, sin adornos, queriendo no verse influido por el maniqueísmo en su personalidad. Mide los tiempos y la intensidad, por lo que puede a cierto sector del público no gustar. Por último, hablar de Kate McKinnon que, pese tener un participación más bien anecdótica, da esa pizca de comedia ácida que no le viene mal al film para equilibrar. Brillando con highlighter Uno de los puntos más favorables de El escándalo (Bombshell) es el gran trabajo realizado por la dirección de maquillaje, peluquería y vestuario. Hacen una labor magnifica, cuidando el más mínimo detalle para dar la mayor rigurosidad histórica en los personajes que intervienen en ella. Es un ejemplo de la importancia de este apartado técnico. Gracias a ellos, la película goza de una mejora sustancial y se puede visualizar en el impacto que recae en la audiencia. También hay que destacar la dirección artística en la que se puede ver el esmero por una puesta en escena creíble. Además, realizan un juego de colores que dan viveza a lo que ocurre en la pantalla. Aunque no lucen todo lo que podrían, comparándolo con el resultado global en el que no se le exprime todo el significado expresivo que podría tener. La dirección fotográfica da un resultado profesional, pero en el que no se ve una diferenciación con otras obras estándar. En ocasiones, la manera de encuadrar la imagen sigue un esquema demasiado tradicional. Por lo cual, no se ve una realización realmente compleja, sino cumpliendo más los parámetros académicos, alejados de una explosión más dinámica. Lo mismo ocurre con el montaje. Pese a los esfuerzos del apartado técnico, el montaje realizan un esquema ya conocido por el público. No hay grandes saltos de emotividad, pero se salva de no tener alma gracias al gran trabajo interpretativo que hay detrás. Aun así, el resultado se queda por debajo de la maravillosa película que podría haber sido, quedándose en un film que cumple. No será una de las películas más recordadas por su contenido. Conclusión El escándalo (Bombshell) es una película que expone uno de los casos más polémicos de los últimos tiempos. El guion no termina de encontrar su camino principal y navega entre varias aguas, que termina dando un resultado correcto, pero no excelente. La gran baza del film es su reparto, en especial, Nicole Kidman y Charlize Theron. Ambas están soberbias, demuestran porque son dos de las mejores actrices de su tiempo. El apartado técnico brilla en maquillaje y peluquería, además de vestuario y dirección artística. El montaje no exprime los elementos que tiene y da un resultado demasiado académico. Un caso en el que brilla interpretativamente, pero que no baja a las vísceras del problema y se queda en un plano superficial. THIS FILM IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. IN BRIEF: Excellent exposé about sexual harassment in the workplace with superb performances by a fine cast, led by a remarkable Charlize Theron. JIM'S REVIEW: A few weeks ago, I reviewed the docudrama, Richard Jewell, Clint Eastwood's fine but biased right-wing view of a wronged man maligned by the press, law enforcement agencies, and the American public in their unwarranted rush to judgment. So it's only right that I now review the docudrama, Bombshell, Jay Roach's fine but biased left-wing view of the right man accused of sexual harassment scandals that plagued Rupert Murdock's conservative Fox News Division. Both are polarizing films about controversial subjects, yet there are strong similarities in the storytelling. Bombshell is quite an apt title. The word is defined as: 1. An overwhelming surprise or disappointment 2. A very attractive woman Choose whichever multiple meaning and it would apply to the very crux of the film. Bombshell explores the explosive scandal that discredited Rupert Murdock's Fox News Division and destroyed the career of its CEO Roger Ailes. The uncompromising position forced upon several women at the network became a definite quid pro quo situation of possibly granting sexual favors for career advancement. The film dramatically (or melodramatically, at times) follows the lives of three victims who protested these injustices and the toxic work environment at the news channel. Usually, blurring the line between fact and fiction may make a better story, but prevents the truth from being heard. This film avoids most of the pitfalls of biographical films due to its contemporary themes and riveting acting. To the film's credit, it begins with a disclaimer and does not disguise the fact that the movie is a drama loosely based on true events. The film centers on three ambitious career-oriented women setting them on a collision course with a sexual predator. Will these victims form a sisterhood and unite to go against the powers in charge? Nothing is easy; their names are not changed to protect the innocent. Well known news personality Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron) is one of Fox's top news anchors. Next to her on the good old boys' chauvinistic food chain is Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman. Together they are the "pretty " faces on view at Fox News, until charges are leveled against their mentor, Roger Ailes (John Lithgow) nearly unrecognizable under the prothetic make-up design. Striving to become a household name is Kayla Pospilsil (Margot Robbie. The battle lines are now crossed as the MeToo Movement begins. Now you may not of heard of the last person, as she is an amalgamation of other victimized women and the character, as written, is purely fictitious. Call it poetic license, but this plot device is still a major misstep and weakness in this or any film based on true events, as it was the recent Clintwood bio-pic. But Bombshell stays with the facts as much as possible in retelling its tale of sex, corporate greed, and corruption. Its screenplay by Charles Randolph creates believable characters and articulate dialog when meeting the issue of sexual harassment head-on. Some moments do become preachy sermons, but the story is handled with such eloquence and sensitivity. The casting, right down to the minor players, is perfection. Ms. Theron portrayal of is remarkable and fully nuanced. Her vocal delivery, physical appearance, and identifiable movements are so very accurate and real. (Kudos to Vivian Baker, Cristina Waltz, and Richard Redlefsen for their tremendous contributions on her and the other cast members' make-up work.) Providing excellent support are Ms. Kidman and Ms. Bobbie as the other victimized women. Both actresses make their intense moments resonant. Perhaps, the hardest role is the villain of the piece and Mr. Lithgow convincingly plays his character as a ruthless and unlikable misfit obsessed with his petty need for control. He preys upon those objects of his carnal desires. All deserve award consideration. Also bringing their significant talents to the film are Connie Britton, Rob Delaney, Mark Duplass, Malcolm McDowell, Holland Taylor, Alanna Ubach, Allison Janney, and a winning Kate McKinnon. Mr. Roach's direction is very adept at setting up conflicts and depicting these horrible incidents with matter-of-factly precision. He never sidesteps uncomfortable or disturbing encounters as in his scene with a lecherous Mr. Lithgow ogling a nervous Mr. Bobbie. The scene might be based on pure conjuncture, but the overall impact is shockingly real and creates empathy for her and other women who have had to condone this treatment. Watch Ms. Kidman quickly get shunned by staff members for stating the truth, or hear an emotional confessional moment between Ms. Theron and a co-worker about her previously secret transgressions. It all makes for powerful, if manipulative, filmmaking. Bombshell has a specific vision and voice. The film takes its explosive topic and brings the uneasy issue of sexual harassment centerstage, making a plea for those women who deserve to be seen and heard. Do not miss this riveting film. Every last one of them are wearing a mask. A silicone flawless mask. I found the story very interesting, but I think it was absolutely impossible to fit all the interesting details that actually help you to comprehend the story in 1,5 hours movie.
In TV Show "The loudest Voice" you get to live the story through. You actually see what kind of person RA was, especially towards women. For me it was TV show of a year. So, the movie for me felt way too short and way too fast. It's hard to follow and understand what was actually going on. It was like watching on rewind. The acting was fantastic, I think everyone did a great job, but the story was too superficial. Not deep enough for my taste.Everyone is talking about Charlize Theron, but what about John Lithgow? I didn't recognise him till the end of the trailer ?.
