I think for this to happen, the interviewer would have needed to call on actors individually to answer questions. Saorirse Ronan is very gregarious which is fine, but the interviewer would ask a question of the group and she would answer, or the director would answer. Lorne Dern did jump in a few times and the older gentleman some which was good. I would have loved to hear from the actors who played Amy, Beth and the actor who played Laurie as well. Although when the interviewer did ask the Laurie character a question, he answered which was nice. We have so many period pieces set in the UK which I love, and watch most frequently, but here is one period piece about American girls written by an American young woman author set during the Civil War period. This is a very American experience where almost 700,000 Americans died on our own land. This was not insignificant. I was a bit disappointed that no American young female actors could be found to play any of these roles about American sisters during a significant time period in our history interpreted during this time 2019 time period. Even one would have been nice. I thought cutting back and forth between young and a little older was confusing at first. For those of us who didn't see the other zillion versions of the movie, a better introduction to who the sisters were at the beginning would have helped before the cutting back and forth began. What I liked about the movie is that they had a messy house and that didn't bother them. So many of those past period pieces everything is perfect, neat, clean and in it's place. I loved the messiness of the house and how comfortable that felt. I loved all the fabrics and the wall paper and the dresses with all the slips and how warm they could be. I loved the dancing and the carefree playing. I loved the academic underpinnings and the fact they all started a school at the end. Most of all, I loved how these sisters showed the young people of today, how you can entertain yourself without a cell phone in your hand. I wonder if the youth of today can even fathom how to entertain and be entertained without video games, cell phones and computers.

Couple of comments: this is the latest adaptation of the famed 1868 novel by Louise May Alcott. However, it is the first directed by a woman, namely Greta Gerwig. Following her strong 2017 directing debut "Lady Bird" Gerwig returns as director (and script writer.
